killing champions...
1. Get to 80.
2. Get the rest of your traits and maybe some gear
3. Autoattack champions with hammer (possibly also mace, haven’t tried it)
4. Go make a sandwich.
Good reply and i understand that, but my point is that i managed to solo them on my warrior at the same level
I’m leveling a Guardian cause i love to solo things and heard Guardian is the best at that.
So I’m just hoping it’ll at least turn out better than the warrior at 80…. as i understand things are different at lower levels.
Anyways, thanks for the reply
Once you get to lvl 60 where u have access to Monk’s Focus and Altruistic Healing in the Valor trait line you will notice a huge increase in your survivability. Until then it can be a little rough sometimes.
Guardian’s have the lowest base health of pretty much any of the classes, to put it into perspective, my mesmer in level 14 masterworks scaled up to 80 has higher HP than my guard in full exotics + 3 ascended accessories that add a good chunk of health.
Still baffles me sometimes, but the lower HP is offset by the fact that guardians have access to a ~9k heal every 30 seconds, and a super useful panic button called “Tome of Courage”.
Guradian is very weak while leveling comparing to warrior.
you can scepter/focus them, it will take ages.
but even on my warrior it took me ages to bow down the bee queen and soldier alone.
Thanks for the replies guys, but if they truely are lacking that badly in hp, then how on earth are they classed as one of the best solo proffs?
I understand that they have a kitten load of defensive abilities to keep them up, but surely not enough to make up for the low hp?
does the guardian at least over take the warrior in soloing all pve content when you hit 80?
im not bothered about asking what their like in pvp… as its all to do with skill and different builds but they seem amazing so far in pvp from youtube vids i’ve seen and the odd bit of pvp i’ve done so far.
In my opinion, when you gear up and level up, nothing beats Guardian for sheer survivability – even if you spec more for damage like I do. I actually beat down Risen faster than on my balance build ele. And I beat down five-six of them at a time, as opposed to getting eaten alive on an elementalist.
Warriors have more HP, but they have poor heals relative to guardians. Also, guardians have tons of mitigation in form of easy and frequent access to Protection and Weakness, which are essentially a 30% and a 50% damage reduction effects.
Furthermore, you can also throw in Spirit weapons which are very good at holding aggro, can be healed and buffed just like any other “pet” and do decent damage on their own when specced.
I wouldn’t agree that guardians are weak when leveling either. I frequently did content where I would fight 2-3 mobs 6-7 levels above mine during leveling and yes, it was a challenge, but completely doable with vigor and lots of dodging, blinds and defensive weapon sets. Never seen warriors do that, and I know I couldn’t do it, simply not enough ways to evade/prevent damage.
We have low base HP simply because we can basically refill our HP pool every 30 seconds, and we have a ton of small heals which over time add up and make guardians one of the highest effective HP classes in the game.

Don’t forget not all champions are created equally. Some are more suited to kiting while others are easier to melee down. Guardian doesn’t really have a “ranged” option so it will be hard or take a very long time to solo champs that are typically kited. Before anyone says, “Guardians have ranged weapons.” Yes that is true but there isn’t really a ranged build. The ranged options are designed to help some if you are being kited not to kite something else.
Also Warriors are the easiest class to level. You can basically have your dog level your warrior from 1- 80 for you while you are at work and then have a max level character ready to play. So if you are expecting any class to be as face roll easy as the warrior to level you are in for a rough time. That doesn’t mean guards are hard to level but nothing will compare to the ease of leveling a warrior.

Guardian was easier to level than other classes, haven’t done warrior yet but its next.
I run content like FotM and Arah with another Guardian that runs 13K hp without a problem. I’m currently working my way to Zerker gear also.
GSword is great for leveling, throw on Hammer for more challenging encounters. Damage is very close and Hammer gives you Protection while standing in the symbol
. Spirit weapons are good for leveling, they lose potency at 80 but have fun with um while you can. Scepter has good damage problem is when the target moves there’s potential for the shots to miss.

If you cant solo a champion its a L2 kitten ue. Granted it will take time but its doable.

Best bet to beat champions of all kinds in my opinion is something like this build:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fUAQNApdSlUgKDnGSKEf4ESmCRCBxUoRe01DFKiYIA
blind is often not helpful – blocks are and in this build they give might and burn the target. along with a constant symbol you get a fast count twoards your 5th hit for passiv VOJ.
purging flame along with leap of faith grants also the new fantastic fire aura, burn, conditon removal and might on hits. shield of wrath also gives might on activation.
mace/focus provides excellent surviveability for utelizing strong passiv health regen and altrustic healing.
combo it with well placed dodges – might on dodge food and even more endurance regen for a walk in the park on almost any champion.
in addition: guardian is no warrior
@KensaiZen
I never said i couldn’t solo any champions, only that specific one which my warrior could do easily, also my Guardian was only level 31 when i posted this, and he’s now 40. Since then i have solo’d a few champions with him.
The main point of this thread is to show my disapointment as i thought Guardians were meant to be better than warriors at soloing champions. But over all leveling him has been the easiest out of all my characters killing most things fast and easy.
I just wanted to know if there was a way to kill that specific boss at level 31 as a guard seeing as i could do it on my warrior.
@Asmodal
Thanks for the post I like the build but i think ima stick with 0/5/30/30/5 when i hit 80!
Also i do know Guardian is no Warrior, what im getting at is everyone told me Guards are the best class at sloing, and i just wondered if i was doing something wrong? But i guess deciding which one is best for soloing at low levels is a bad idea as things are unbalanced at low levels maybe? :P
Well how did you do it with your warrior? did you kite? or did you face tank? which champion was this? etc etc
Can’t tell you how to do it if the details are missed out. Hell at lvl 31 it might have been best to put 30 into valor and then you can kill anything.

Pretty much this. Guardians are certainly fine for normal leveling, but your longevity will increase dramatically once you put 30 in Valor for either Monk’s Focus or Altruistic Healing. Guardians will have it rough against some champions before then, since we don’t have many kiting options, and because Blinds, one of our big ways of mitigating damage, are only 10% effective on champions. Our low base HP and damage compared to a Warrior are going to work against you at those levels, but once you get things like AH healing and Selfless Daring working at full power, you’ll be fine when it comes to soloing them.
First, damage against champion levels of HP means little. That warriors can dish out more than guardians is irrelevant. Staying power matters far more and guardians have a lot more of it than warriors.
Second, dodging. Nobody can solo facetank a champion, with a few exceptions which only confirm the rule.
And third, as other have mentioned, there are various champions. Some are a snoozefest and others cannot be soloed. At all and by any class.

Jesus christ KensaiZen, did you not even read my first post? Those actual specific details you’re asking for are there at the start of the thread. Stating what champion it was and in which location. Saying how i confronted them with my guardian compared to my warrior etc..
I’m not gonna repeat my self again. Just go read it if you wanna help at all.
P.s You cant put 30 points into Valor if you’re only level 31…
Well then there’s your problem. No 30 valorous. No immortality

WTB the skill book that allows me to put more then 10 points into anything at this level. Also want to buy the 9 extra trait points he would need to have 30 trait points at this level.
To OP. Like you said. Soloing potential at lvl 31 is no way to compare classes. Some classes start out much stronger then others, while some get much stronger with trait points. My Guard is only lvl 39 so I can’t speak to it accurately regarding solo potential. A good example is Mesmer though. At lvl 31 they are getting wrecked by most mobs. Give them 70 traits to spend and some decent(even non-exotic) gear and they become soloing machines with the right build.
