In a spvp and WvW perspective, what would be needed for retal builds to work?

1. My eyes here fall on drastically improving communal defense (icd and aegis duration)
and work around a Mace/shield guard that apply’s damage through aoe retal and shatterd aegis. Hammer also has viability to provide high retal uptime, something to keep in mind.

2. would be a more selfish oriented offensive mace/focus spec that builds into having sustain from blocks, prot and regen and throws back damage with high retal uptime, especially against builds with high hit amount.

This is all for now, until I get some more ideas in my head I wonder if anyone here has some concept and ideas to share with specific input on what numbers and trait changes we need, specifically the traits seem to spread out and a retal effectiveness trait is probably needed?

It should be somewhat balanced in sight of the powercreep seeing some tuning down.
Keep in mind boon strip and counterplay.

Step 1 is to make Retaliation feel like a threat to be played around. I don’t feel like it is currently in that state.

Step 2 is to determine whether current Retaliation giving skills and combos are effective enough at providing that threat based on opportunity cost factors and adjust accordingly.

Step 3 would be to create new sources of Retaliation and combos where Step 2 might not be appropriate.

I would:

  • remove the 1/3 damage reduction from pvp and wvw
  • limit the amount of times you can be affected by Retaliation per second (referencing recent Stability change)
  • have Radiant Retaliation scale from both Power and Condition Damage, using Power’s current numbers

After those changes I’d look to see how Retaliation performed in general and tweak accordingly. Healer’s Retribution and Retribution are two traits I’d be looking into in particular for better functionality. In addition, I’d probably remove the Light Aura from Signets so they could have a stronger identity. Wrathful Spirit would get a name change, but otherwise its a good trait along with Virtue of Retribution.

No. Retaliation damage is reduced by 33.33% in sPvP and WvW.

Make it a stackable boon ! Guardian should be the master of retal, and is really I believe have most access to it so make that kitten stackable instead of extending duration, I wanna see 25x retal stacked with 25x might staff boon duration and concentration gear >:O

OR! going with the stackable retal idea (more stacks mo damage from it) get ride of that pointless trait “retal scales from condi damage” make it auto scale from your highest damage source (im sure the system can see if u’d prefer it scaling from condi or power) THEN make the trait useful where the trait is; “Retaliation now stacks” so only guards may have this so it doesn’t get to to out of hand w/ cleave and the works

Boom best retal idea since… well concept of retal.

Never engage an enemy more powerful then yourself. If engagement is inevitable, do so on your terms.

Radiant Retaliation

  • Retaliation on Aegis does twice the damage after a successful block. icd 5s

Or something to that extent.
