hi all,
i reinstalled the game recently, i have at 80 both a guardian and a warrior, i recall being both fun so i’m not sure which class to focus, being this a guardian forum i might as well know the answer
Anyway, what do you guys think, which class is more fun to play in spvp and wvw?

The Warrior feels much more complete. They have a ton of tools to do their job, can function offensively, defensively, and as support, all very well. They have more viable options, more weapon sets, utilities that are generally stronger, and the base HP pool that’s about 75% greater than ours must be really, really nice. They’re also much easier to play (not that Guardian is super hard mode, but Warrior takes simple play to the next level).

All that being said, Guardian is still very solid, just in fewer ways, and have a much higher emphasis on team play. This means that solo, you’ll never really feel as strong as a Warrior unless you’re trying to bunker, in which case a Warrior can bunker as well as you, but not with as much versatility in terms of build options.

The Guardian shines defensively, and in terms of group support. The Warrior also has great defenses and group support as well, but again, not /quite/ as great, and fewer options for this area specifically.

Overall, I think it’s fair to say that the Warrior has more, but the Guardian is still very good at the specific things it’s very good at. Just ask yourself what you want to do.

If you want to run with a group and throw out powerful group support or defend like a champion, Guardian might be for you.

If you ever want to be able to reliably catch someone and force a fight to a finish in 1v1 type scenarios, or WvW roaming, you’re probably better going Warrior. Guardians right now have to be content with winning a fight by letting their foes run away. Can you be content with that?

I’m more inclinded to play it, i think i will give it a try in spvp because i’ve only 60 matches with the guardian.
In WvW they are both very useful classes right?

Both are very important classes in WvW. Warriors focus more on condition removal and CC while Guardians focus on providing beneficial boons to the group and dealing damage (basically, this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0fxuoJGdGs ).

guard dps and war dps is actually very similar so don’t choose one for more dps, but to be honest if i wasn’t running guard in all the pugs i play people would wipe a lot more cuz of reflects/aegis ect

They are rather close to each other and whitout any traits Guardian acctualy has a higher base and scaling in most cases, but there is were it ends. Our traits for damage are really lackluster when. Ompared to War, combine that with the huge difference in health and one instantly starts to notice how much stats you really can dedicate.

Does this say that we can not go full zerker? Ofcourse not, but besides PvE where enemies stand still, it ussualy ends in disaster due to our problem with surviv and keeping in melee with foes.

Still going full zerk is hilarius for the shock you notice on the poor guy you engage

Guardian is worse overall since you actually have to give playing some thought whereas warrior you have enough DPS and base health to just 100 blades and win.

I don’t like 100 blades though
Also having to think while playing is most welcome.

Here’s the thing,

Guardians bring group utility. They bring reliable reflects, stability, and blocks.

Warr provides the offensive buffs that a Guard needs to match and even outperform Warrior DPS.

Oh, and staying in range really is a problem. But with certain roatations, you can hit one burst within a short span of time and win. Miss it, and you’ll probably lose. This isn’t a problem in PvE, but in sPvP and WvW, it is.

Fortunately for you, Guards are still loved for their group utility in more defensive-support-esque builds. Guards are nearly irreplacable for the support they bring to a zerg, and Guard bunkers in PvP are one of the best.

Quoted for Truth. I love my guardian, and he is my main. But Warrior as it currently stands is a better class. They have the ability to be tankier than guards if they want, deal more damage if they want, and be better support if they want. Right now Warriors are in the Anet gods’ favor, so I would roll with it. You will be playing the game on easy mode, but you will outshine every other profession.

Just being honest. Maybe someday the guardian will be able to compete with warrior.

Am I the only one here who doesn’t think Warriors are better at support and even DPS?

High-protection uptime
On-demand party-wide blocks
Area-denial Knockdown (Line of Warding and Ring of Warding continue to knock down foes for as long as their duration)
Etc.

And Guardian sword auto if buffed (which should be in decent parties) has one of the highest, maybe even the highest, damage for an autoattack AFAIK.

Guardian for me. For DPS, I prefer my thief. I’ve run the warrior support/dps, i think the Guardian is better for group. Although, the warrior banner ulti is interesting.

you guys obviously don’t play much.. pvt bear bow is the best pve build right now. if not that then cleric staff guardian

Don’t forget Greatsword/Greatsword Mesmer.

Nonsense staff dps Guardian for the win, il smack you for about 200 damage each sec. And don’t get me started or il throw 500 crits in your face!!!!
