The mace has been buffed several times in a row now. It’s actually a pretty good weapon, it just can’t function properly in PvP because the mace only really fits in close-ranged tanky support builds, and the only tanky-ish healing amulet is Magi’s now (since Cleric’s got removed), which is probably about the worst amulet in the game due to its terrible combination of stats.
If you ask me, I think the staff is more deserving of buffs right now, and -outside of PvE- maybe even the hammer.

I use mace/focus sword/shield in my solo open world HOT map build but then again you can use anything in open world so you may ignore everything I just wrote.

The main problem is probably the lack of working bunker builds in PvP. For (instanced) PvE and PvD … erm WvW, the general philosophy of the weapon hardly works as a supportive melee weapon.

At the moment i feel you get more out of sceptet and sword symbol spam than mace. You get to stack symbols quickly letting you get more healing out of it thanks to the honor line. With that said, mace has going for it the aegis on mace 3 which is 2 blocks.

That’s such a fallacy … so buff mace so that some other weapon becomes the “when was the last time” scapegoat?
Chasing meta is not a reason to buff anything ever. Scepter was left behind, now it’s good. It’s just how things work.

I don’t want a buff to mace, only a buff to Bunker Guards. Ele, Engi, & Rangers bunk & team support lots better.

Atm that is the only issue with mace skills….
Pack 2 or 3 mace/shield guard in a group they do excellent.. but the symbol….. wait for it… wait for it… oh…. symbol casted stays behind party already moving on, no emeny nearby Ç_Ç… not even allies to trigger AH…
That’s not even a Mace problem … it’s just how symbols work. I mean, if you expect to lay down a symbol and have intelligent players just stand in it, forget about it, even if they were instacast. They just move. There is no point in pretending that speeding up Mace 2 would make it all that much of a difference.
Even in PVE, a fast mace 2 is simply a faster rotation … but the advantage of having an on demand, fast throwdown symbol in PVE is significant enough.
The crippling feature of mace is the heals … unwanted, unnecessary, ineffective. But because they are there, it’s hard to justify doing anything else with the weapon.
Still, I don’t see a reason to buff mace right now, just like there wasn’t any reason to buff any other non-meta weapon for any other class. Anet does not attempt to make EVERY weapon relevant at all times for an evolving game state. That would be a huge waste of their time.

^that is very true, still i would not call the healing a criple feature, if u get a team with mace guardians the heal is really nice and a very blocky party, plus healing and removing condis with blocks as example..
Mace is really a good weapon, if u ignore the useless 2nd skill, even the healing is a help, iwth decent healing output modifier and blocks increasing healing power, ive seen situations with mace healing 1k aoe on its 3rd auto atack chain with is realy really good, and cant be called a crippling feature.
It is a team play weapon after all.
But QoL changes are always apreciated.

I won’t disagree that there are situations where mace works or that there is always some kind of QoL change that could be made. We might disagree on certain specifics, but the real debate here is if Anet needs to buff mace, simply because it was ‘left behind’. I think not, because if the goal is to make it ‘top hat’ again, then anyone can use ‘left behind’ ad infinitum every time another weapon gets made top hat. That’s no way to think or act as a game dev.
QoL buffs are a different discussion entirely; it’s not what the OP was referring to.
I just think that mace 2 doesn’t synergize well with symbol guard due to how slow the cast time is. It shouldn’t be the case that if i want to run a more defensive symbol menders that i have to really debate between scepter and mace due to mace’s ridiculously slow symbol cast time. Mind you i don’t have a problem with the auto or mace 3. Just the symbol cast time leaves you open to counterattack for too long when the pay off of getting the symbol off is so small.

This one and cast time on the last hit of the autoattack would be nice and i would prefer if we could cancel the #3 to get protection either way. The Aegis could be applied only for the full duration to intensify the defensive playstyle but doesnt force you to keep the fullduration if your party needs some dmg reduction fast.
