I’d wish for this trait to be reverted to its pre spezialisation patch.
I dont understand the Change to begin with. Guardian is one of the worst classes when it comes to might stacking. I feel like this trait gave a good amount of skillplay to the guard an also to enemys. it makes good players stow weapon when a guard runs shelter instead of mindlessly attack into it. It rewards the right useage of shelter. this skill is really only good for shelter. It gives you a good but really short power spike if the enemy doesnt pay attention to your skills and also if you use it right. and only then.

beside the skillplay it removed i also wanted to point out that warrior has a similar trait (shield master) without icd. i know comparing to class skills isnt always right. but why does a war get the exactly same thing while its already incredibly good at might stacking? Guard has only staff (only on bunker) or the 3 mightstacks with F1. thats it.

so pls give us back the old “might of the protector” and bring back a bit more skillplay on an already easy class

ICD was implemented because it heavily favor skills like shelter which gave inf blocks. It DOES need a buff but in a way that benefits other block skills as well (Mace, Aegis etc).

Might of the Protector is supposed to be a compliment to our Virtue of Courage (Kind of how Honor and Radience lines have things that benefit from VoJ and VoR). That being said its kind of a massive buff to Shelter right now than an actual upgrade for the Virtue because it doesn’t even apply the might to allies as far as I know (please correct me if Im wrong on that)

The warriors shield skill is a different case entirely. Its MENT to punish people who attack a blocking person to much. For the guardian it was not our traits main functionality and that’s why it was nerfed

I don’t pay attention to what my enemies do in PvP all the time. That doesn’t mean they should get to smack me in the face with stacks of might from a minor trait. Having it proc two or three times on shelter keeps it from being abused by say running into meteor storm or some other AoE and procing it. It also probably made it abit op in WvW when it didn’t have the ICD

All that being said. Yeaaaah this trait needs a buff. I mean when you compare it to the other grandmaster minor traits its just weaksauce. They could either increase the stacks to make it a hard burst (which would make sense considering our master trait there) or increase the duration and make it more accumulative (which really does nothing for people with Aegis being their only block).

Edit: Also I see my boy chuck down there. WAAAAASSSSUUUUUUPP

Double edit- Why don’t they just decrease its time to 5s and triple the might stacks? That way it would synergize much better with Retributive armor and actually reward blocking and then bursting

For the record, Fire Shield’s Might doesn’t have an ICD… heaven forbid it’s a “Bug” and they revert it…

I complained about it when they changed it but heard nothing back. I find it extremely ridiculous that they changed it, i could understand the burning on block trait because with how burning is now that would be overpowered, but this change was dumb.

It’s interesting because the vast majority of burning damage doesn’t come from blocking now but rather a mixture of Torch #4, Purging Flames and Justice procs. I honestly believe that even if the burn on block didn’t have an ICD, this wouldn’t change.

Very true, not going to dispute that. I will say this, you can always cancel-cast the Rapid fire if you see you’re taking dmg.

True, maybe something like “Gain 4 stack of might when you block attacks.” 1s ICD.. so other class, like ranger, will be in a bad spot if they hit you while in shelter but not totally kittened.. and this work well for mace/focus too

Arken did you just say cancel rapid fire? You realize the whole point of that attack is to be FAST. That’s like asking somebody to do a backflip mid punch (Which you technically can do in this game but that’s besides the point >.<).
Besides we already have punishment for rapid attacks in the form of retaliation

i dont really get it. why should war get to punish you and guard shouldnt

thats whats wrong with pvp. people who dont look what his enemy does should lose their 1v1. (thats also whats wrong with eles. bc this class just goes might stack rota instead of paying attention). I think this behaviour should be heavily punished

other than that. i agree on the problem that guardian just run into aoe with shelter to get might. this still doesnt give you 20+ mightstacks tho. you only get that if someone uses rapid fires or blurred frenzy on you. and they should stow weapon in that case.

If you’re not careful and don’t stop attacking when your attacks are clearly being blocked, I say it’s completely fair for you to be punished for it. I really don’t see the problem with this.

Agreed completely with OP, ridiculous to have one of the skilled aspects of guardian gameplay be undermined and make the gap between a great and average guardian even smaller (as if guardian duels in pvp didn’t depend on sigil procs a good amount of the time anyway).
