scepter and focus trait bonuses in wrong place?
ok, this post will probably get buried so i will bump it with this? sorry anet for being bad. i really just want to know if i am really stupid and i am missing some kind of synergy or something. i just cannot figure out for the life of me why the only two bonus traits i can see for scepter and focus are in the zeal category. the 3 predetermined zeal traits that you have to pick along the way as you go up to 30 points are buffs for symbols. and neither scepter nor focus creates or deals with symbols in any way right?
please anybody i would just really appreciate it if you point out what i am missing, even if i feel embarrassed and like a goofball if you tell me something obvious that i missed.
good night all, and apologies for bumping this anet. even if one of yer reps wants to send me an email to explain what i am missing it would be great
Our traits have some issues. In my opinion, Zeal most of all.
ok, well ty for your reply!
You say that but i love Zeal. But this is mainly because i am a Burning Guardian build who uses scepter/torch and greatsword off. The whole line benefits my damage.
heya Wolfgrey,
so i have a question for you then. i understand Zeal helping greatsword of course. but as the 3 unchangable traits are buffs for symbols, and neither scepter nor torch creates symbols, doesn’t it feel like something is missing for them? i realize you can still make a choice on 1 choosable trait within this line to buff scepter, but if you are getting 3 traits that buff symbols just to get this trait seems odd no?
I get the impression that we have too many mechanics to be able to pick a good trait build. Perhaps merging things like meditations with concecrations (for example) might help.
Symbols aren’t out of place, i would say more the scepter is out of place.Torch only really has one trait going for it in another line while scepter feels the same way. However in my build scepter is used to chain them(excellent cc skill) so i can get off my most powerful bursting attacks.Auto attack is actually not that bad but for me it is just a filler. Most of my damage comes from my 65% more burning duration i have.
Scepter should have it’s own traits somewhere else or something in a line that makes sense for it.Though i am not sure where.
However the rest of that line itself is actually how it should be.It benefits my greatsword off a great deal, and it has traits that benefit my burning playstyle.
People complain about Zeal because unless your greatsword or burning, it isn’t all that great of a line.
oh ok, i got ya. ya i think scepter should be in another line somewhere perhaps as you said. that was just the point of my post, i thought i had missed some kind of synergy or something that made it worth taking 3 traits that buff symbols just to get to the one that will buff a scepter.
Also just for reference. Here is my build.
It has been very effective in pvp and i am quite happy with it.

Ya, i think it only partially makes sense because the scepter/focus, scepter/torch works very well with the greatsword.
However if you were going that and had hammer as a off instead…
It just needs to be reworked a bit.I honestly just think the scepter and focus traits needs to be moved and keep the rest.
ok cool. so it looks like some of the synergy i was maybe not understanding is using greatsword with scepter/focus or scepter/torch. i was trying to make a build with staff and scepter/focus. i know kind of strange but hey we can try whatever build we like right? i just wanted to concentrate on using scepter/focus the most.
I got ya, the fun of GW1 was all the unique builds.I had a blast with that. Here if you do some tweaking you can have some fun too.
So you were going kind of a all ranged guardian build? That sounds interesting and i wish the best of luck to your build.
You should check out that skill calculator that is linked there and mess with it.Maybe you will find something of use?
Guardian traits are a fustercluck, moreso than any other class, so I’m not surprised.
lol. well at least this thread has given me a few ideas. but ya, even though i know it will frustrate some people as always, i hope they rework the trait systems after 6 months to a year of the game has passed to fine tune it and start working things out.
