Has anyone tried a symbol/AH build? I just bought my new hammer so I don’t have much time to practice hitting people (This is mainly focused on wvw).

Utilities are still all shouts coz of AH as well as me having 6/6 s.soldier runes. I use soldier armor and cleric trinkets (mostly exotic anyway). Hammer/staff for the symbols. Then I run

5/0/30/30/5 build. the Valor trait line is pretty standard, AH, purity and something else. Honor is superior aria, Writ of merciful and either writ of persistence or pure of voice. My main goal for the build is to be one of the first few people to rush into the zerg head-on, so I tried to be a bit tanky (with the clerics) but still have a bit of good damage (although i can say, at the moment it’s pretty crappy =/).

I tried out this build after (at long last) realizing that the end proc of hammer is a symbol so I kinda heal myself with each AA chain. (cast time seems a bit too long imo though, but at least it doesn’t stop even when you’re kiting). What do you guys think?

I run a 0/15/30/20/5 build, Hammer with Mace/Focus off set, personally. I run shout’s due to AH. I also use symbol enhancing traits from honor. Love it due to the symbol’s Hammer and Mace give you. Currently reworking my Gear as it sits even with low hp, 13755 HP, I find as long as I play smart not a lot i cant face tank. Once i improve my hp some i would say that list will go down even more.

At first i used this build with alot more armor about 3.1k, but due to the protechtion uptime and the healing from ah you can play more offensive. The vulnerabillity is working wonders damage wise as for the protection. You only have to change to mace focus combo when things get really hot or to get my power stack up to 250.

I recently switched to all blinds because i love protection but i even love no damage more :P

That’s actually nearly identical to my build. However if you are planning on diving into groups of enemies you might want to go 0 0 30 30 10 for extra retaliation duration.

Ahh retaliation. I forgot about that. But without GS how do you reliably stack retaliation on yourself? I just went with the 5 for the emergency 25% symbol. Sure it grants a small heal, but hey, a heal is a heal. One thing though, do symbols work with AH? I mean since all symbols provide buffs, does every pulse/buff application trigger AH on me?

Jax has some good symbol AH builds in his thread although they are pvp oriented.

Hammer = AoE Ret on a 4-5 second cooldown. Also symbol’s that grant boon’s do work with AH.

i actually feel Writ of Exaltation is key to any symbol build. so i usually op for WoE, WoM and PoV. if i don’t expect heavy conditions, then i go for WoE or even two-handed mastery.

zergs and large scale battles aside, i feel area is more important than longer lasting. sure, some may argue that one extra tick you get another boon, more healing and more DPS, however, it will be rather rare (from my experiences) that enemies wills tay in your symbols long enough for the full duration. unless if you have a reliable way or work in a group to keep them stuck on ’em. and i prefer larger symbols since it does add a radius forcing your opponents to “waste” a doge to get out instead of run out. and you can effectively get more AoE this way – both offensively and defensively. just my take though : ))

There are shouts that grant retaliation. If you have boon duration+ items it will extended them further. Retaliation isn’t too useful in pve but at least it’s imo more useful than what you have currently.

All buffs you apply triggers AH.
