wat weapon set do i need to lvl up o.o?
Guardian isn’t as active as some classes because it’s based around support and defense but it’s a solid class in every environment.
For painless PvE leveling (dungeons you’ll want a few different weapon sets available), you’ll want mace+shield and hammer. The hammer is our go to weapon for control and it’ll give you some time to attack without fear of being hit by something else. It’ll take awhile to figure out all the combos you can pull off between skills 3, 4, and 5 but once you do you’ll never go back. The following example works extremely well when fighting multiple foes. Switch to a foe you’re not focusing on and use skill #4 to knock them back and then skill #3 to keep them further back for a bit. When skill #3 wears off, use skill #5 to give yourself a few more seconds of freedom to focus down your main target.
The Mace+Shield set is go to defensive set. If you get yourself into too much trouble, switch off to this and then pop Mace #3 (let it block and fire off) and then Shield #5. That combo should give you some breathing room to use Mace #2 and regen a little. By the time, they get back to you your Mace #3 should be well on it’s way to recharging and you’ll have at least one of your dodges back.
Wall of Reflection isn’t a weaponset but it’s something that doesn’t leave my bar in PvE. I put 10 points into Virtues just for the ability to ground target it. It’s an amazing skill to have in any situation. It really only comes off my bar in dungeons where I know there are no projectile enemies coming up.

Go to the Heart of the Mists and test out all the weapons and skills, and decide for yourself. I’m not trying to be mean, but there’s no right or wrong weapon set or class for anything in this game. The guardian can be great at everything except long range damage. However, that doesn’t mean you can’t fight long range opponents, just don’t expect to be able to stand at the rear of the pack and dish out a ton damage.
I don’t know why the scepter gets so much hate. I do quite a lot of damage with my scepter. It’s an excellent kiting weapon. I do wish a few mechanical things about it would be changed but the damage isn’t one of them. Now if people said we couldn’t do long range AoE damage, I’d agree with them. But for single target damage scepter is fine.

Well I’ll tell you this. I’ve never been killed by a guardian scepter ;P

I solo champions with my Scepter/Shield///Hammer Build.
Scepter ftw.
I use scepter/shield in wvw as a ranged weapon to hit people on walls or if I am defending a building. Then greatsword for melee fighting
One thing I have found is that once you get comfortable with them that there really isn’t a wrong choice. You will see everyone recommend every possible combination because they simply all work if it fits your play-style. I started out using the GS and mace/shield second and have since used all possible combinations. My go-to set currently is Sword/Torch with Mace/Focus second. It works great for how I play. Start burning the crap out of piles of mobs, switch over (focus has a bleed on switch) blind or block set down some healing, switch back finish them off.
I switch weapons and utilities so much I’m almost OCD about it though. You can tailor pretty much every encounter with the right skills and weapons.
Yeah I agree with the people above who say that weapon choice in this game is really a matter of preference. Just find the one that works right for you! I usually swap around weapons a handful of times in the first 10 levels until I find the combination I like.
Right now I’m levelling a scepter/torch guardian with staff as my second weapon. I absolutely love it! After you get settled into scepter/torch it’s a very high damage and face paced, fun to play weapon set. It is, however, useless for events, which is where the staff comes in, dealing decent damage to five foes at once and having some neat support skills that really make a difference in big events. The swiftness symbol on the staff is also brilliant for exploring and getting those POIs in mob filled locations or getting hard jumps in vistas, pair it up with aegis and strong healing abilities and you’re an exploring machine.
That being said, from the limited amount of PvP I’ve done as a scepter/torch staff guardian, it’s a bit lacklustre. I HAVE killed players using the scepter and it wasn’t hard, but there’s no doubt it’s better for PvE.
