why are this class called: Guardian.
LOL. i just read another thread, where they say boons will make you get hit harder…
And thieves will simply steal them.
So, you can not play active defender (too long cds).
And all you have is Boons.. permanent.
And now they want to make boons into a big Disadvantage.

Thieves are getting an add on to flanking strike to steal one boon for one initiative and since flanking strike already costs 4 initiative it seems like the will be spending 5 initiative just to remove 2 of your boons. That’s assuming you get hit with both boon removing moves.
It’s only on on the sword dagger weapon set, how often do you die to a s/d thief? A s/d thief removing your boons will also struggle to have enough init to CnD and daze you often.

I propose that the guardian be removed from the role of “boon heavy” melee class and reworked into another mechanic.
They said they wanted us to feel strong when we had boons up. Now I will just feel like an IDIOT when I have boons up.
Having other classes who can specifically destroy us is just fine, but we need a way to be a literal “guardian”. When we die so easily, the class becomes a joke:
“I’ll defend you! Ugh… Oh, I died faster than you would have anyway. GG”.
The guardian is going to require major rework after this Tuesday and I hope the developers have it down as a priority.
Why have a class that relies on boons then make it so other classes can completely destroy them? It seems rather strong.
Why put blocks in the game if they can be bypassed? Doesn’t it seem like, “Here, use this block but, haha not really!”?

So far the only buff mentioned for the sword is to fix the tracking on the second attack of flanking strike, no grantee they’ll fix it properly. Even if they do just means you might have to dodge the second hit of flanking strike instead of just strafing.

Boons won’t be a disadvantage for the majority of situations. The only boon hate so far will be one trait that not all warriors take and one weapon set that not all thieves take. Boons will still be an advantage.

Possible but unlikely to happen in the near future. I haven’t heard anything about adding boon hate to other classes it seems to be a warrior only thing. They have mentioned possibly adding more boon stealing to other thief weapon sets it depends how the mug nerf hits them and how well the boon stealing on s/d turns out.

Sorry but I think you are over reacting a little. These proposed changes are not going to destroy the guardian class and require an entire rework. The boon-heavy warrior style will still work.
You still gain all the advantages of having your boons up, that part is not being taken away. A warrior will also do more damage to you if you have no boons up than if you had all 8 boons up. The change will allow their damage to still be a threat to you when you have protection up rather than oops I face tanked hundred blades oh well I’ll still kill this warrior.
As for the unblockable attacks they will come from activating a signet. Just means if your fighting a warrior with that signet you’ll have to pay attention to when you use your heal.
Boon hate and the 3 unblockable signet ability both need to be traited for, which means those people that do that will have to give something else up in their build just for that. Also you guys are making mountains out of mole hills before actually seeing what the patch will bring, and how the new changes will affect us. I know I’m not the only one who’s unafraid of these changes, just because it’ll be pretty easy to spot who the boon haters / signet warriors will be.

Yeah, no. Maybe for your AH support build, but not for me. Guardian’s name is perfect, quit being so mad.
I been reading the OP’s comment and he have a giant mindset issue. He believes that previous experience in videos game will allow him to play almost any game that offers any type of innovation. Think of a braindead twitchy COD player losing in a tactical shooter.
OP please post your gear and videos of your play style. People have a better understand on what you are doing wrong. Anet made a complex game. Deal with it. Most of us hate WoW due to the brain dead gear superiority, reliance on trinity and other grindy mechanics.

Retaliation kill majority of melee class. I believe you are not using combo light fields and other skills properly to gain retaliation to troll thevies.
On the side note: Elementalist have 4 atonement. Use them because combo fields and other skills meant for sustain battle. Elementalist being support and dps.

they are the third best class because two other classes have OP builds. d/d ele can just run away. HGH condition can add conditions faster than any class can remove it

This game forces all players to be active in comparison to tank, heal, dps and repeat raids.
I have to admit, Anet did some bad game designs.

I don’t pvp but occasionally i go wvw with my ranger i beat any guardian in duel most try to run away and fail ranger have more cc than guardian you see i can keep up almost permanent cripple as well as some decent snares. the bunkers die in 10-30sec depending on how much vitality they have, and the full zerker ones are a joke those where easy before i hit lvl 80. so exactly how are they so good in pvp? I really can’t see it.

This is true good rangers(Mostly,Cond spec) can kill guardians, though most of the time I see a bunker guardian they’re always rolling with a AH build, with PVT Gear, Hammer/GS. Though I have yet to lose against a ranger solo on my bunker. All it ends up to be is either, he/she spams arrows for bleed stacks(short bow) continuously and it becomes a never ending battle, until help arrives from either side(if it’s the type of ranger that has stuff like perma regen.),but still i could hold my own vs 1v2, and even 1v3 or both parties call it quits and just walk away, stalemates. With my other guard speced for DPS (Zerker armor, knights, and soilder trinket mixed, outfited with Beryl jewels) i normally kill almost every solo rangers, unless it’s one of the few rare good ones. Though for PvP they are tough to bring down, and well they’re great for holding points.

For one thing, never speak of wvwvw for balance. Anet is really lazy on balance wvwvw. Well, I agree with Anet
Gear, stats, and food buffs cannot be compared to a pvp situation. People own gear with different stats. Nobody can balance a game when one side clearly has an unfair stats advantage.
People who post wvwvw videos and guides of 1 vs many. I am looking at you.
I will only admit these player are superior to an average pvp player if they replicate the same feat in spvp. The area in which Anet actually tries to balance.
i’m going to be honest with you i’ve only hit 80 about 3 days ago (but had badges for full 80 gear) and i’ve got to say, if we had a higher hp pool we would be unbeatable, if the cooldowns of out defensive ability’s were to be shortened we would be irreplaceable
guardians are one of the best classes to bring group utility with there buffs and heals while still outputting a fair amount of damage, i’ve never felt more helpfull to my pvp raids and i main a mesmer

Trinity is the best way to make a balanced game to start with.
Then after you have the balance solved.
*Tanks are REALY hard to kill, have good Active defense skills, and medium dmg.
*Long Range dps are strong at that, and weak in melee with low hp.
*etc etc.
The common thing, you sacrifice survival, to get ranged skills. or other way.
After this Core balance is made.
You can start being innovative. and walk away from the trinity.
Giving people weird choises like Dagger/Dagger to elemental.
(just dont over buff it, as they have done)
And yes. Tanks are there to take dmg / heat of your friends.
But to make it more active. Dont use taunt, or high aggro skills on tanks.
There are more fun ways to play Active tank.
Interupts, stuns, slows, AoE weakness, Knockbacks.. etc.
And since Shields are supposed to be a Defensive option…
you know, shield – block dmg. etc…
Shield CDs need to be reduced ALOT.
As it is now, if you use shield, you can be an active defender every 30 and 40 second.
(the 2 cds on it). i mean. seriously.
I hope every class get extra dmg against boons soon. or steal them.
That way, perhaps they can actually DO something to fix guardians into more active playing.

To OP: The shield doesn’t block anything unless you tell it to.
You can’t stand there in this game and tank. Use the bazillion skills you have to block, heal, mitigate, reflect.
It’s the twitchiest class in the game imo. If you block at exactly the right time, you can save your entire group. You can watch enemies kill themselves when their projectiles bounce off your barrier back at them. And to top that off, you can switch to staff and drop fifteen stacks of might and heal for 2400 with one skill.
It’s an underplayed class because the damage is not that great, but the utility is insane.

Can you please stop saying “boon bot” before I lose the rest of my brain cells? This isn’t WoW, or Swtor, or whatever MMO you said you play and get all this rediculous terminology from. Everything you’ve said is just… wrong. Guardian is NOT required to play as some kind of buff giver – I mean you can, but you’re rediculous suggesting that they’re required to play in this slot and given the relatively small amount of buffs a guardian can give out I’d find a guardian purely dedicated to giving buffs to be a bit useless. There’s what, empower, retal, 3 seconds of protection, and stability every 40 seconds? What the kitten ever gave you that idea?
Also I had to rub my eyes when you honestly suggested that a guardian is more squishy than a warrior. Have you never seen a bunker guardian, IE potentially the most unkillable kittens in the game without relying on a get out of jail free RTL? Have you actually played the game for long enough to realize that pure EHP does not a tank make? I’d almost call this a troll/bait if I hadn’t seen this kind of brainless tripe in-game.

Dude… a guardian is not a boon bot. An elementalist is a boon bot. Wrong class description. Managing cd is a skill. Stop trying to break the class into some ridiculous OP build that allows it to solo a guild bounty boss
Dodge is not used to heal. Dodge is use to avoid killing blows.

the warrior would try to kill the d/d elementalist but the ele would run away without any help and the guardian would not die.

GW2 Dungeons is pretty reactive already. Everyone have to learn the bosses. It not just tanks who have to learn how to migrate dmage

Guardian boon uptime does not compare to an elementalist which are true boon bots. Their combo feilds allow every ally to get boons while a guard access is limited

I think bosses are a stupid design. What’s so special about them that they managed to obtain immunity from crowd control in exchange for having to stand in the same room until the end of time?
I don’t play for the e-sport here nor do I in any other game. Aren’t there other games out there that don’t run on a Trinity? I’d guess some FPS?
I enjoy the fact that there is not a tank and healer here, and also that there is not a DPS meter. Guardian may not be the best name for the class but throwing around puddles of Protection for melee makes me feel like a guardian…
The reason why guardians have 10k base hp and warriors have 16k is because the guardian has such a high base toughness and so many defensive skills and boons, if they did raise their base hp they would be unkillable (they’re already pretty hard to kill as it is)

This is a great thread. Here I thought dodge, my almost 100% heal and blocks were keeping me alive and my skill as a player and build flexibility keeping me viable. Now I find out that it’s just temporary effects were doing all that.

i do use give out boons at times that are appropriate to help relieve the pressure some of my allies are receiving at times. though, that’s not to say, that’s the only thing we have going. we have plenty more. and each and every player on ehre is able to find their own niche of how they want to play their Guard and go about it. and they have fun with it. some go pure DPS. believe me, i’ve seen or gone against Guards who can drop you faster than a backstab thief can. on the other end of the spectrum i’ve seen Guards be taking on 4x 5x their numbers and hold out until their allies arrive. more often than not, these Guards health barely seems to drop. it doesn’t matter they have low health, because they took the time to understand and learn how to play the class. the same will go for any class in this game.
sure, we all have a definition of what a Guardian might be or is supposed to be like. can i not see the class as a Guardian of Tyria, a Guardian against all that is evil? so, he vanquishes all that stands in his way. in my mind, that is my Guardian. and yes, i will heal my allies when i can, give them protection when i can, but first and foremost, i will kill anything that is harming them or myself, and thus, guarding the kitten out of this world – whether is be WvW, PvP, PvE…

@ OP- I’ve been following this precious thread for a while, and I’m going to reiterate and add a few things to what has already been said. I am going to assume this is not a troll thread. I also don’t want to be a “politician” so I am going to be plain.
1. Don’t go into a game expecting it to be the same as the others, with similar classes and skills. You are comparing GW2 to other MMOs. What you’re doing is the equivalent of going to a mountain resort during summer and getting mad because there is no snow.
2. Every profession in GW2 has an optimal build. It just so happens that Guardians are the most successful as “boon bots;” so be it. If you don’t like it, don’t play it. ANet does not need to change the profession. Most people enjoy it as is.
3. Warriors are meat shields. Guardians are not. You previously stated you run zerker with your warrior. If you want a meat shield, you are not running your warrior correctly. But then again, there is no trinity in this game. Warriors may simply be better meat shields than Guardians- that’s all I am saying.
3. As stated by Yamsandjams, it’s a name. Pretend Guardians are called “Hairdressers” if it makes you feel better. That way they are tankier than you would expect them to be.
4. The fact that you only run Fire attunement with your elementist because you want to do damage shows me you’re not a good player, and you are unable to adapt to your opponent. This is also confirmed by the fact that you don’t run d/d. I am not saying ele’s have to run d/d, but it’s a great build and every good elementist at least appreciates its effectiveness.
5. Based on your descriptions of Guardian skills and how they aid your group, I’m gonna go ahead and assume a) the people you play with suck or b) you’re not a great Guardian. So get better, learn, and understand how to play before calling for Guardians to be completely changed.
6. If all of the above fail, go back to playing Warhammer or WoW. ANet already got your $60 bucks, and nobody will care.

guardian has a lot of problems but arent these you metioned.
We have a lack of range and of damage but all is justified by:
1)aegis: you ignore the utility of this boon. each aegis give you: 1attack dodge, 1stack of might, heal and burn enemies (if you well trait that). Do you think is enough for a single boon?
2)G-U-A-R-D-I-A-N mean that: you can heal party (you can with virtue, 6 and some utilities), you can protect the party (you can with virtue and utilities), you can give offensive/defensive general purpose boon to party (you can with virtue, utilities and elite)
3) guardian is very resistent (more than a warrior for sure). 22k hp isn’t enough if you cant heal for at least 50% of you total healt. Guardian has around 12k base hp but you can heal for 8+k only with the 6skill … 70+% of your health with a skill is enough for you? anyway guardian have a lot of defensive boon (aegis, protection, regeneration) and you can stack them in a lot of ways
