Hello forums. I’m currently getting a mesmer to 80 (I main an engi and people don’t seem to like it in some dungeons). The regular builds don’t appeal to me that much; how viable would a boon duration/condition damage build be?

Of course, I’d lean towards boon duration because I enjoy support/control roles the most. If direct power is better than condition damage, that’s fine too.

I’m looking to go with a staff/scepter-focus loadout, but I hear sword is better for comboing. Thoughts on that too?

So yeah. With a build that’s focused on, or at least half-and-half boon duration and damage, will I do well in endgame PvE? Will I be able to clear dungeons in a decent amount of time? How useful will I be compared to other classes running on the same stat build?

By the way, I’m aware of skcamow’s “Mesmer Paladin” build, which is very enticing (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/Guide-The-Mesmer-Paladin/). I know these builds exist. I want to know how other people have experienced this build, whether using it or teaming with it.

Sure, you’ll do pretty well. Take a look at Chaos Archangel’s ‘Chaos Maestro’ build for a more in-depth examination of Mesmer boon support.

Edit: Don’t use scepter though :p. sword is far better.

If i remember right i put the 10 from chaos into 10 domination for phantasm damage or signet mastery, depending on the party i put on healing gear, or my regular berserker/cavalier/knight mix. Things like banner warriors already have 100% regeneration uptime, so theres no point trying to stack it even more.

Oh, i also recommend sword over scepter, you need the cleaving sword gives you. scepter only has 1 multiple targetskill, and its rather lackluster. the only time i use scepter is in boss fights where i want an off hand but still ranged, like greatsword/scepter, focus.
