In the LA knight events I respected to a 30 30 0 10 0 zerker mantras damage build. With the 4% mantras trait, food, ascended zerker weaps and trinkets, and the scarlet potions I am hitting 5k + halting strikes on trash mobs.

Anyone see this before? Damage on the tooltip says 745 or so.

As you can see from my SS, 5.1k on players.

The damage you see in the tooltip is the base damage and as far as I could see, it doesn’t take into account anything.

Traited interrupt can do huge dmg. 5-6k is normal. I prefer other traits tho. I don’t interrupt enough to make it better trait for me comparing to empowered illusions. If you good with interruptions then it is perfect trait to have.

Not really. You can already proc interrupt traits through defiant, you just wouldn’t take halting strike because the damage it provides pales in comparison to empowered illusions.

Not really. You can already proc interrupt traits through defiant, you just wouldn’t take halting strike because the damage it provides pales in comparison to empowered illusions.

O.o didn’t know that, thanks for the info.
Still think they should revamp defiance though xD with a reworked system CC would be more valuable so the build might be good for reasons other then raw damage.

I actually recommend you guys to check how often you interrupt on a day when it is in Dailys. It is 15 interrupts. Unless i am in WVW or dung run and can hit bunch of mobs with GS5 it takes me a lot of time to get. 5k once in a blue moon or +15% to dmg each illusion does all the time. Not sure if block with sword 4 and scepter 2 considered as interrupt. If yes then it is whole lotta dmg in 1 hit. My riposte hit 4k if interrupt add another 5 then it is on par with Thieves backstab and can be very useful in certain situations.

I used that trait few times with GS and pistol but have no idea about blocking. Logically active weapon blocks should be considered as interrupts but probably you unlike me did check it out. Guess it was wishful thinking on my part.

No. It depends on your power crit chance and target toughness and maybe something else. I just hit a guard in WVW with it for barely 1k with MB and 2200 power. Have no idea what his tough was. Ill research it farther. I am curios myself.

Works as every other direct damage source, it’s affected by armor (not only toughness, but toughness + armor contribution from items) and most importantly protection.

It’s nice if you focus on interrupts, but since it’s quite hard to choose when to interrupt in a ZvZ, your mileage may vary.

Of course doesn’t proc on the blocks from scepter and sword (but it can proc from Counter Blade). It only procs on interrupting a skill, doesn’t matter the source of the interrupt (any control effect can interrupt).

Actually…not entirely true. I’ve done extensive testing with halting strike, and I’ve failed miserably to determine an accurate way of calculating the damage. It doesn’t seem to have a direct correlation with weapon damage, nor does it have any sort of normal skill coefficient.

It is, as you said, affected by armor and protection like all other damage sources.

I didn’t test extensively, but my impression is that the base damage scales with power (including might/stacks) and is modified by crit damage and all other modifiers (vulnerability on target, for example), but with that phrase I was referring to how the damage is mitigated more than how the initial damage is calculated, sorry for the confusion

It’s not interrupt because the hit land, but sword #4 Counter Blade can interrupt.

I think real question here is HS worth to take instead of Empowered illusions. After few days of using it my answer is no. HS comparing to EI is huge DPS loss. You can land some HS on mobs at 5k but in WVW successful HS usually hits between 1-2k and it is not procs every time.

It’s not even just that. Small character models like Asura make it harder to pick out animations and on top of that your own damage visuals (the big crit numbers) often time overlap their character models so you can’t see when to interrupt.

I’ve been running a halting strike shatter mesmer for quite some time now and it is very good if you interrupt the right enemy skills. However, the model limitations make it a very difficult play style.

HS may be an overall DPS loss compared to other damage traits, but I think it adds a nice touch of pressure to an interrupt build. I love when Magic Bullet pings between a few people, crit them all and stack 15 might.
