A Pink Beginning
Mes is my favorite class by far… More health, healing, conditions, boons, survival than a war/guardian… I can’t enjoy any of the other classes now :/ Only issues I really have has to do with passive/active movement speed being neglected for the Mes class.
Mesmer is lots and lots of fun, there’s a million different ways you can build your char and change the way the class is played. It’s all up to you lol
(PVE Only)
I have been trying to find a class that i can connect with. At first (after reading the forums) I thought it might be a Guardian or even a Warrior but melee standard attacks were just not my style. So Here I am.
After watching the class videos the Mesmer looks very interesting and unique. I’m not afraid to die, I’m not easily frustrated and I’m willing to learn. So if there is any wisdom that people could part with it would be greatly appreciated.
How does the Mesmer perform in Dungeons?
What are your opinions on the class?
PvE? Play a guardian.
I have several friends that have played 3-4 classes up to 80 and guardian is the only one they refer to lovingly as “god mode”

Most players if you didnt know dont like how basic and easy it is to pve as a guardian and warrior i have both at 80 and i got to say its extremely dull. completely no challenge at all. as for pve with Mes ? sure thier are better classes at it but if u can deal with the lack of aoes and movement speed then have at it mesmer is a much more fun class besides ele for me anyway :p and way more engaging than guardian or warrior will ever be x.x
As for mesmers in dungeons i love a mesmer in my party if im not on mine infact ill prob never go without one xD <3 time warp <3 portal xD

I should warn you, I’m not an incredibly good player, and I love mesmers for two main reasons. One of them is purely “aesthetic”: I love the “trickery”-type magic, I love how their armor looks, and the fact that their powers are frequently associated with telepathy only helps. I’m also the kind of player who enjoys doing damage via conditions and “chaining” attacks in certain ways. So yeah, I’m biased.

Honestly, I have to admit—that is good if you want to play a mesmer. I pretty much only play PvE (and I generally solo areas), and my mesmer dies pretty easily. One thing I’ve learned to try to prevent that is you want to try to maintain clones and phantasms as much as possible—they’ll frequently attract the attention of whatever you’re fighting, so you don’t have to take the damage directly. This gets a LOT easier when you’re a later level, though, since you’ll have a lot more illusion-generating skills. (This tactic also only works so well against multiple enemies, so you should try to aggro them one at a time if possible.)
One weapon I’ve found which is REALLY useful is a staff. It gives you an ability which creates a clone and teleports you backwards (very useful if you run up against something with powerful melee attacks!), a phantasm which inflicts conditions, a shielding ability, and an area affect which inflicts conditions on enemies and grants boons to allies. I think it’s the most well-rounded weapon for mesmers, and I found it very useful when I was first leveling up (though it’s been a while since then).
I hope this is helpful!
My only pieces of advice are to get accustomed to much bigger skill rotations and bind your shatters to easy to reach keys.
