I will try to make it quick.

So, basicly Im kind of new. This is my 1st lvl 80 in GW2. I know that mesmer sucks and it’s a waste to have it as a main but I do not plan to make another character as I enjoy it as it is.

Here are few things I need some help with:

First of all, the gear. I want to have both setups: offensive, with power, prec and crit damage, aswell as defensive/suportive for things like dungeons. Any ideas what gear, runes, sigils should I buy? Also, as I only got like 5 gold at this stage is there any way to get cheap but efficient armor to get started? Setups I run are 30/30/5/0/5 and 20/20/0/0/30. Are they any good for my needs?

Then, the skins. I’m looking for a robes that would fit my asura. Doesn’t have to BE asuran though. But I wan’t to have asuran weapons. The only ones I’ve found were inquest and dark asuran. I hope you can help me with that, but well, it’s not that important I guess.

Also, The exploration. Should I got for 100% map completion? Or is there something I MUST do instead?

And finally, the gold farming. As this whole “gearing up” plant requires alot of gold I would really like to know some good places where I can get some coin as a mesmer.

If there is anything I need to know please tell me It would be much MUCH apreciated.

I’d say the easiest way to get exotic gear and a starting capital is to run dungeons. The two quickest ones are probably AC (all paths) and CoF (path 1&2). From AC you can get tokens for Power/Vitality/Toughness gear and from CoF tokens for Power/Precision/Crit.dmg%. Runes and Sigils will depend on your build (more on that below), if you’re just after pure stats you can often get a better deal by just getting orbs instead of runes but in some cases the set bonuses are nice and you can even mix and match from various sets (2/2/2, 2/4, 3/3) and get something that fits your style better than any one set of 6. My two favorite rune sets are:
-Air, helps with crit damage (good for shatter builds), gives better swiftness (mesmer is the slowest class so anything that means quicker movement is nice) and chance for a lightning bolt that does good damage when hit.
-Golemancer, also gives crit damage, adds precision worth about 2,5% crit chance, chance to summon a golem when hit (this is the one I really like, might not be the ‘optimal’ choice but it can be extremely funny and the golem is decent help as well in dungeons)

There are several builds you can use, I am a fan of shatter builds and have been running 20/20/0/0/30 for the last 4 months and it’s working fine. On this forum you can find several guides for various builds so I’d recommend you check those out and perhaps try them yourself with green gear first before committing to getting the exotics (you can probably get a full lvl80 set of green items for less than 50 silver).

I can’t say about exploration 100%, there used to be a bug that enemies in WvW could tell you apart from your clones by your exploration star, I think it’s been fixed but I’m not entirely certain. Exploring higher level zones will give you exotic gear which you can sometimes equip or more often either salvage for ectos or sell on the TP (I recommend always checking the TP first, some of them have very valuable runes in them that boosts the price by several gold).

I am not a big fan of farming, but I tend to get some gold just by playing. Fractals might be an option, just scan the forums on that topic.

I use the opposite:
Defensive – Knights armor for WvW.
Offensive – Berserkers for dungeons or Knights is close enough.

Fastest gold is trading on the TP if you dont find it too boring, and dungeons.
Consider fractals, you can get gold plus usable gear, and fractals is more about learning the dungeon than the gear you use.

Search or ask around about making gold on the TP, there should be someone who can help.
I dont think you need alot of gold, its more about a cost of time

That all depends on you. To begin with I’d say berserker. Once you know the dungeons and bosses well you could switch to magic find which can be crafted or bought. You will get a fair amount of money and dungeon tokens by running AC and COF and the armor sets from there should meet your needs of a semi tanky set and a high DPS set. Just make sure your inventory is more or less empty when you start running the dungeons because it tends to fill up fast if you have lots of random things you are carrying around. In a good group you can get through the dungeons pretty quick. In random PUGs you never know what you will get. I’ve been with great groups and I’ve been with terrible ones.

The thing with magic find gear is you are missing a stat bonus that’s replaced with magic find so either your damage or survivability could suffer a little. Once you know the dungeons you can wear whatever you’d like IMO.

Magic find set on a mesmer doesn’t feel great. Warriors, engineers, guardians and even elementalists do magic find at least two times better than mesmers. Just saying!

I main mesmer and it is most definitely not a waste If you plan on joining WvW (where I spend majority of my time), mesmers are very valuable for the portals. Mesmers have some of the most powerful team skills and elites especially in Time Warp/Mass Invis. My guild for some reason has a higher ratio of mesmers and necros than most other classes.

If you want to see some powerful burst, check out Shatter Cat build by Osicat https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/guide-WvWvW-Shatter-cat/first and look at some of his videos.

And if by the off chance you’re on Maguuma server, there is a huge guild dedicated to all the mesmers on the server and trainings are held around once a week for basic/veteran/advanced tactics for mesmers.

For gear, I personally sport order of whisper gear transmuted over my exotics so take a look at that if you choose order of whispers in your story. I also like my Invader’s Hood (From wvw) + Winged Pants + Student Robe set. Of course, dungeon gear sets usually look nice but i’m too lazy to grind for those.

For 100%, you ONLY need it if you want to get your Legendary weapon, which is a whole different beast in itself. Plus in WvW, your clones won’t have your 100% completion star so anyone who is paying attention can figure out the real you no problem.

Theres a lot you can do with mesmer so do some research and you shouldn’t be disappointed with your class choice Welcome to the team!
