We asked for good utilities and we got the new Mimic.

We asked for a movement speed trait/signet and we got the middle finger.

We asked for main hand pistol for the longest time and we get an offhand shield that NOBODY wants. And I’m fairly confident in that statement.

I suggest we ask for nerfs and more offhands next cause what we’ve been doing sure as hell doesn’t work.

Hmm…just thought of this, what if the people who get only a 1h weapon can equip it in either hand? That would be fair in that you get the same 5 new abilities that a 2h provides. Of course 2 shields would look pretty stupid I guess. ;-)

Maybe with a rule you can have only one shield equipped at a time, either as MH or OH. This would at least give us some flexibility and another MH.

Oh no, I didn’t mean to get over this at all lol, I meant to get over the idea of it not being an offhand as some people want to dream about. But ya, don’t like this shield. I feel the new grandmaster trait incident is gonna repeat all over again (Latest grandmaster traits and almost all of them were utterly useless i.e. Power Block).

Mesmer being Mesmer.. I’m hoping the shield turns out to be an offensive weapon as opposed to what another class uses it for.

We are a “Heyoka” type class. Case in Point, one of our better ranged weapons is a Greatsword. For anyone else this is a close up, in-your-face type weapon.

Shield Dream Weapon: you absorb attacks. If too many are absorbed a feedback explosion damages you… but up until that time the shield is charging a massive blast wave with confusion that you can trigger at any point before the explosion.

An off-hand weapon is a slap to the face considering some other classes will get new 2-handed options, which is 5 new skills to play with as opposed to a pitiful 2. Maybe they’ll yet give us a new main-hand weapon to go with the shield so that it’s somewhat fair.

I also prefer the idea of a shield, even if not mainhand.

Offhand pistol is the only weapon in our current set that I pretty much never use – I just don’t like it (the phantasm sound effect is annoying and magic bullet is too easy to miss/waste).

So yeah, I’m looking forward to the shield a lot more than any pistol, main or offhand.

There’s a long list of weapons I’d like to see before any other pistol, including spear, hammer, mainhand focus, alternate ranged auto attack for sword, long/shortbow, main/offhand axes, and warhorn.

We’ve already seen a spell that resembles Chaos Storm. And let’s face it, the second spell will summon a phantasm that uses taunt.

We need a weapon like this on land, if not just the spear itself.

Well datamining indicates that Eles are getting a sword for their specialization. That means its pretty much just Mesmer getting the shaft.

Anybody surprised? Didn’t think so.

Engi get a hammer and drones
Mesmer get… shield, off hand? and “just as good” compensation, man i don’t know about you guys but Furious Interruption and Disruptor’s Sustainment still scare the kitten out of me

You know now that I think about it, getting shield isn’t the thing that bothers me. It’s the thought of how well Anet will implement it which, let’s face it, is what will worry me most. That and how they “promise” we’ll get stuff that are just as effective as the other classes. The BS I smell is strong. Although, The Flameseeker Prophecies look too good with Bolt.

Let’s just hope we’ll enjoy it. Another AOE will be welcome if it pulses … better tagging in open world :-)

Makes me happy that I replaced my Asura Mesmer with a Norn … a Norn with a shield looks better :-p

If we just get back mimic bubble shield as part of one of the skills (obviously tweaked to have additional better effects) then I will be happy.

I just want that bubble shield visual effect and block back – nothing quite matches seeing your character holding their hand up rather gently and tanking everything for 4 seconds.

I loved having Mirror and Mimic when there was an abundance of projectiles.

Bad mesmer, we’ll take your toy away until we know how to make it weak enough not to upset the nice shiny we gave to the pew pew.

Honestly I’m more concerned with a good condition Ranger than I am with the [too] often griped about Longbow Rangers.

One of them I can drop with a good burst. The other looks at me after the burst and heals up disturbingly quickly … and most of us Mesmers hate conditions :-p

But few things, a-nets track record of mesmer neglect aside… Isn’t it not possible we may be looking at a new set of 1-3 skills that accompany the specialization depending on your main hand? Which is what we ultimately want right? More options for skills beyond 2 new ones that are bound to a specialization?

I may be mistaken however since I’ve actually not dug much into any offical statements beyond the first preview stream.

But also if there are more specializations coming wouldn’t it be better for them to take the time and properly create a specialization around a new main hand? As opposed to fighting for something then having it turn out lack luster since there was less time spent on it?

I think we as a community should push for a new
main hand weapon for our next specialization now that there is an actual incling of the possibility to design.

I know I’m one hell of a pessimist, but I’m optimistic about if only because the shield and that clock animation translate into more purrrty purple thingy effects and animations.

Remember, the class may be kitten in some ways, but no class can fart purple butterflies like we can.

I still however think we should let them do whatever they intended, and push for a more fitting main hand after. Especially once we see what exactly gets changed.

It would be awkward if our new spec is inherently defensive in a way not based upon on range or mobility and we were able to twist A-nets arm to give us a pistol for a mh lol. (Tho I do think such a thing is highly unlikely woo! Mesmer neglect!)

I think it´s not a big deal that we only get an off hand shield in this expansion.

They confirmed that they will bring in the game more specialiations in the future besides this Chronomancer, and also they will introduce new weapons.

I guess in the second package of specialitions we will get a new main hand or a new 2 hand weapon ( I would love to see a mesmer with a scythe…)

I believe we have had similar conversations in a number of threads, it does not read as if there were any deletions in this one currently.

To be honest, I am very apprehensive of just how our class mechanics are going to be affected by the specialization. I am currently desperate for the Beta to start so we can begin to get some more information from our fellow mesmers as to how our current weaponsets will interact with the changes to the mechanic if there is indeed any changes to the mechanic. Furthermore, I am also anxious as to whether the devs might be able to be convinced to adding a mainhand pistol to the base class, because all things considered, it is something that should have been there from the beginning.

I guess for me, so long as my trolling interrupt builds remain possible and indeed if the chronomancer adds to my toolset more frequent interrupt skills I will be willing to swallow all the harsh words I have spewed at anet over the years. I guess we shall see what happens.

They haven’t even called it a Chronomancer and in one interview with Isaiah he actually commented on that made up name.
