Hi guys,

I’m about to hit 80 on my Mesmer (possibly tonight), and had a few questions before I go and waste a bunch of money / resources on gear.

- Do stats affect phantasm damage output? If so, is the phantasmal Warlock’s nuke based on condition damage or power / precision?
- Is Mind Wrack’s damage affected by power / precision?

Sorry for the newbish questions. I feel like I should probably know this stuff by now, but this was never my main character and I leveled it almost entirely in WvW using whatever gear dropped for me so I haven’t done a ton of experimenting yet.

As for gear:

I’m fairly close to broke. Spent my money on other characters. My options to get started are to PUG through dungeons for a week or two, (I rarely do PVE), or to buy invader gear with my badges.

I’m considering Invader (Power / Vitality / Toughness), 10/30/0/0/30 or 10/20/20/0/20, and Superior Rune of the Centaur, then use the jewelry slots and accessories for more power / crit.

Also, would it be ridiculous to play with a staff and go with mostly power / precision gear? Does this sound logical or am I going in a horrible direction?

The iLock scales on both power and the number of unique conditions on a target (all phantasms benefit from power/pre), Mindwrack shatters scale with power and crit dmg. As for playing staff and power builds it is perfectly viable if you want a slightly more defensive weapon compared to the gs. If you look at osicats posts he runs a power/pre staff and s/p build and has amazing success with it. xD i love osicats vids but i myself i just cant play S/P i guess my computer is slower meh FPS is a little low about 30 to 35. so i choose GS/Staff and man the raw damage that thing dishes out is pretty amazing love shattering ppl who try to run away criticals like a beast :p
