Today I had several SoloQ turnaments…
In most of them I had a really easy go against my opponents.
At the moment I’m running a simple 20 20 00 00 30 shatter build with staff and greatsword.

It really was insanely easy to win against my enemys in 1on1 or 1on2. They couldn’t even get near to me, or when they did they took my 3k mind wrack burst from every illusion around.
After a match a thief that I just killed with the shatter-triangle wsped me saying that mesmer is OP and i should learn to play etc.

So what is it?

• Are my opponents bad?
• Or am I really playing a class that’s op for 3020 hours?

If you’ve played mesmer as much as you’re saying then I’m pretty sure it’s a l2p issue seeing kittenter isn’t even considered an “OP” spec anymore. You’re just better than the people you’re playing against.

Both of you are so wrong… 1vX only happens if the X is bad. 1player against multiple players of the same skill level CANNOT win. It defies simple logic.

Because of that any profession can easily 1vX. Some professions have it easier than others, either through target drops, mobility, or active defense. Warrior, mesmer, engi, and thief are the best at this, but that doesn’t mean others still can’t.

This is directed at you shadow, but have you ever played an engineer? No? Theyre top tier in pvp, and one of the most popular roaming professions. Their bomb/TK/rocketboots condi build is extremely effective at 1vX and gets better the more you use it. Dont talk about things you have no clue about.

SoloQ = most players running semi-bunker builds due to kills not winning matches. Standing on points does.

Of course a damage oriented shatter Mesmer is going to kill people.

Secondly, RNG is RNG. Like 5 matches in a row where we lolled at the opposition. We just slaughtered them. Then the next round you wonder wtf happened because you lost 50/500. Then the next round you meet the same bloody tournament team and go 500/495. Then its off to horribly loose 5 more times in a row while getting 0 kills.

People hate mesmers cause they don’t understand mesmers, same as people who don’t understand how condition builds work(usually the braindead warriors/thieves running about).

No mesmers aren’t op vs good players, quite the opposite in tPvP. There is a reason why most the top mesmers in tPvP have rerolled/quit.

Not only that, your F1-F4 abillities are all useful and serve four purposes.
F1 = Burst DPS
F2 = Counter DPS
F3 = CC
F4 = Evade

Then you can also swap weapons and spawn illusions at all times and short cooldown on your evade on main-hand sword.

Mesmer is OP, but hard to play. A class being hard to play shouldn’t mean it’s supposed to outclass all other classes. Hard = Fun, for some people.

No you cannot win 1v3 “easy” unless the 3 are completely brainless(the majority of WvWvWers i’ve met seem to fit in that category tho). But then again if they 3 are completely brainless you can win vs them as any class.

Mesmers are OP to anyone who can’t (or doesn’t want to) see all the weaknesses the class has.

Mesmer is easy to play with the most op build out there which is only OP in roaming. Mesmer is hard to play with all other builds besides PU and don’t get rewarded enough therefor are UP on many terrain in game.

Just so you know, it was sarcasm. The point I was trying to get through you is that 3 clones in a triangle doesn’t offer much more than 3 clones on 1 spot. Hell, probably 3 clones on 1 spot is maybe better (unless you make a gigantic triangle to avoid clusterbomb aoe) and stand in them so you have a pretty big chance the thief will miss his backstab on you if he’s running d/x.

Let’s clarify some things…
I have an engi
I don’t do Spvp because its less fun than small skirmish WvW.

I didn’t say a mesmer could not 1v3.
I didn’t once say engi’s are bad or that they can’t ever 1v3.

However, I do have a hard time believing a skilled engineer can face 3 skilled and win.
IF you believe they can, by that reasoning, engi’s are op, nerf.

Thieves tend to be the loudest when they lose. They play pure glass and are surprised when they lose in a few seconds to auto-attacks. 90% of the OP complaints I get (playing any class, though especially mesmer) are from glass cannon thieves. I’ve got so many blocked now.

1. Check my forum posts on my profile. (Mostly about my mesmer)
2. Check me ingame and you’ll see that more than 95% of my time online i’m on my only lv 80 char: my mesmer
3. check my signature… it sais mesmer since a long long time.

Well if that’s not enough i could make some screenshots of my characterselection window… with all those lv 20 chars and one lv 80 mesmer :o

Mesmer can be OP on certain specs when fighting certain specs.

Shatter is not one of those certain specs, and its mainly strong in well-built groups.

Conditions are so rampant in sPvP, and they are also big counter to the Mesmer class. A shatter Mesmer has little to no condition removal. The only one I can think on the top of my head is Warden → Temporal Curtain and usually, we open up with Temporal Curtain and then Warden.

I’ve decided to actually take a break from SPVP because of it.

Lol, how big pointless threads can become. Maybe next time ask the people who say you’re ’’op’’ why you’re ’’op’’, instead of asking the forum. You’re asking the wrong people the question you want answered.

When i wvw i get lots of 1v2/1v3 on my engi not fighting uplevels. On my main mesmer i have even crazier outnumbered fights. There are a lot of bad players out there my first time as a warrior in spvp i was pulling 1v2s easy and some 1v1 without even dodging. Sadly the last 4 times i got in game not once did i get to fight a good mesmer, most just tanked.

Mesmers are not op at all most people are just bad and have no idea how they work. Which equates to them thinking that i am always invisible Invulnerable and spiking for 30k damage every time i burst.

Well first of all i’d like to tell you that my question is honest. I may not be the worst player but still i’m a really bad theory crafter so that’s what i’d like to know from you.
Is the mesmer in theory stronger than others?

@ blackdevil: yeah mostly i’ve not been playing against other playeres. As you could see in the second screenshot in one of my posts here i’m only rank 20. I started pvp/wvw again a few feeks ago. Last time i played that was ~january 2013.

First time in soloQ? I remember the first time I went into soloQ I ran into the most terrible people I’ve ever seen. Its gets a little better as your mmr goes up.

I will answer this post from the point of view of an S/D thief as this is my main.

I lose to mesmers so often I actually avoid them in wvw. I am not a great player but not that bad either. Still, unless the mesmer is a very bad one and starts running away from me, doing literaly nothing, I hardly ever kill a mesmer.

The reasons are:

High, ranged dmg – if I get caught when low on initiative/cds, I am dead. Other classes that can deal a lot of dmg at a range, well, they don’t give me so much trouble because that dmg comes from projectiles and most of the times I can counter that by using dagger storm or warrior stolen skill. Can’t do this with mesmer.

Some of your skills hit thieves even when we stealth – this is a killer for me. Being S/D, I don’t have access to “perma stealth” and I don’t use stealth that much as I am not a big fan of it. So my use of stealth is rather a reaction to what is going in combat, to either clear condis, or when low on HP. While condis are easy to get rid of when fighting a mesmer (C&D off the illusions), stealth is no use when low on HP cos I still get hit (if you use the skills before I go stealth).

100% mind bust – this is a mesmer class mechanic to confuse and well, I works great against me xD. Usually it’s not that easy to target the player among all the illusions.

I used to lose often to necros as well, so asked my guildie to duel with me, I adjusted my build and since then I don’t have problems with necros.

To learn how mesmers work, I made one myself. Got her to 80 a week ago or so and so far I find the class fun to play. I will see how much it can help me fight other mesmers.

Me Games, teach me how to be an “OP” Mesmer. I’m struggling to survive most of the time, let alone take on 3 v1. By all means publish your build and strategy.

If you like myself have been playing a profession nearly exclusively for so long, you’re going to feel this way, particularly when you develop the automated responses to certain situations (i.e. decoying out of a backstab, phase retreating an earthshaker/any kind of lunge attack, magic bullet-ing a heal skill and the like).

Mesmers aren’t overpowered, you’ll find more dedicated players sticking with them though and really giving them that extra edge, and this is how it was in Guild Wars 1 as well.

(Hell lately I’ve found myself using Arcane Thievery whenever I see a stability pop on an enemy almost instinctively).

Things will probably only get better for you haha.

The way I always tell people:
Mesmer’s less OP, and more Pure Mind(insert “F” Bomb here).
Folk need to realise, that they’re fighting a class designed to control the enemy’s movement and tactics. Too many PKillers in this game seem to think that all they need to do for a win is stack big damage. Guess what, big damage needs to connect
to do its job, and Mesmers are built to deny your ability to connect hits.

It’s a similar mindset with Thief, as well. Control the enemy’s position, throw off his game, put him in the (virtual) dirt, then look for the next target. Funny how Mesmer and Thief both eat a lot of “You’re OP!” whinging.

Lets be honest here. Does this kitten really need to be in the mesmer forums DaShi? Why is this even a thread, no you’re not playing an OP profession, yes you’ve got lots of hours, yes you’re more comfortable with your class so you can pull stuff like that off. Everybody, given the right circumstances has the chance to 1vX, it all comes down to how much time you’ve invested into your profession, how well you know your own play style and whom you’re versing.

Anyways, back to being serious, I can find outnumbered videos from just about EVERY CLASS.

I didn’t say it was impossible.

Here’s my take,

-I generally believe that two things happen in outnumbered fights, the Player regardless of class is very skilled(emphasis on very)—-and the opponents are not.

Somehow (i think it’s because I didn’t think enough before posting this) this thread became some kind of flamewar what really wasn’t my plan but I can’t change it now. :/

Once again thank you for your answers and now I can life happy knowing that I’m not playing a profession that’s overpowered. (Yay!) I’m curious what all the ppl that I asked first will respond when I tell them that I’m not an op-abouser :>

People have a tendency to blame everything but themself if they die… I can’t say that I find mesmer that hard to fight, so I won’t call them OP.

From a thief point of view I think Mesmer is in a fairly good spot now (correct me if I’m wrong).

Agreeing with Geiir here. Some mesmers melt instantly to me, and some mesmers know how to wait for an opening and spike you down hard. If you mess up, you die (at least from my experience playing shatter mesmer as well).
