… that thinks that we shouldn’t be able to trigger on death traits on our own?

The devs obviously have the same opinion. But also these traits are far too weak as they are right now to suffer to a nerf like that.

The thing is that it should be the enemy’s fault to have clones / phantasms killed. After such a nerf it will be harder for the mesmer to get his clones destroyed by his opponent so also the reward for that should be mutch greater.
This would make the mesmer to be more focused on his enemy’s actions and would make the enemy to care more for clones (being aware not to kill them)

Right now the on death traits are bound to clones what makes the clone generation so important. What would happen if they’d change it to affect phantasms too? I think it’d be a great buff that would us allow to use phantasms more effective in the death builds.

Well most of you will think that this still isn’t enough for the balance, so now suggestions for the on death traits:

All traits:

  • do now affect phantasms as well
  • do only trigger when the illusion is killed by damage (raw/cond)

Crippling Dissipation:

  • Add a fact that killed phantasms will chill 1 second instead of crippling the enemy

Debilitation Dissipation

  • Change conditions to:
100% chance to inflict 3 stacks of bleed (5s)
33% chance to cause weakness (3s)
33% chance to cause burn (3s)
33% chance to cause 3 stacks of vulnerability (5s)
  • Phantasms additionally have a 100% chance to cause poison (4s)

Confusing Combatants

  • killed phantasms will inflict 2 stacks of confusion (5s)

while i agree that mesmer shouldnt be able to detonate their own clones with death traits… and i agree death traits need a buff.. i do not believe phantasms should be included… phantasms already deal enough damage as it is.. punishing people for stopping that damage is just a bit too far… in fact phantasms are probably some of our highest damage if left alone.. so why punish people for getting rid of that damage…

Because phantasms are one of our game mechanics and for example in a condition clone death build that uses a staff (a condition weapon(?)) the phantasm from the staff will not do high crits and it also will occupy an illusion slot that’s not aviable as long as it doesn’t die so it should have at least the same effect as clones but in my opinion even stronger

add:
Also nearly any class will instantly wipe out your phantasms with some aoes.

I’d be okay with the change if Deceptive Evasion made an existing clone shatter harmlessly to spawn another BUT that needs to come with some serious boosts to our condition damage. Considering how flimsy they are, clones should have a reason to be feared. Death traits shouldn’t tickle, they should torture.

Those are some good buffs, if only because they’re stronger than the current. However, if on death traits are only via raw/condi damage with no way to proc them (such as wepaon skills or phantasm spawns) then who the on death traits effect will be where the nerf lies. Against ranged and raw/condi aoe spam classes, they’ll be weak. Vs melee cleave (war, guard) they’ll be strong in terms of proccing. But then condi’s vs a warrior are weak due to their ridiculous immunities and cleansing. Overall, this can only result in a nerf.

The devs need to be very careful with any changes to on death traits and mechanics.

I really like the idea of a build that gives you the chance to fight next to your clones using them as a meat shields that will explode on death. This is what they’re going to achieve with patches like this.
Mesmers style will change from the spaming to a more tactical gameplay.

A nice combination with buffed on-death-traits would be a meele pressure swordmaster mesmer that uses his clones because they’ll be meele for sure ?.

But still we should be able to overwrite our clones. The important thing is for example that we can dodge backwards and create a clone that can take the dmg instead of me.

I like your idea. A lot.

This would do so much for condition-Mesmers in PvE as well as in WvW/PvP, without making them overpowered. Just more viable, without beeing cheesy.

Make sure to post in the balance forum and that is the place where devs are looking most of the time now.
