Last night I was part of a 4 man team trying to kill 1 mesmer. I myself play a mesmer and have for many months now. We fought a shatter mesmer. This guy could have all clones and phantasms up in like 1 or 2 seconds shatter and repeat seemingly with no cool down. His speed seemed unreal. Everything I saw him use I could also use. Dodge on roll, mirror, invis leave clone. But the speed! usually when I cast a phantasm there is cast time. he deffinantly had perma speed but I did not notice a speed shoe buff.

Bring them up are possible with block phatasms mirrors decoy casuals like berserker duellant etc. BlockPhantasms have no cast time and deal high dmg too maybe u saw them.
The perma speed is possible with the correct rune and boonduration – everytime he heals he recieve a swiftness buff.

Strange combination but it´s all possible.

So instead of sounding all kitten soft and QQin I decided to break down what I saw.
Sword/Sword
Staff
Blink, decoy, mirror images.
Thought about it long and hard. Did see speed boon, vigor boon and at least 2 others.

I imagine he had sigils of energy for both swaps.
I noticed the usual food and other consumable. Didn’t look to see which they were.
With as often as I saw him dodge I imagine his food to be orrian truffle and meat stew. might on dodge and plus 40 to endurance refill rate. This conbined with his vigor could create close to perma evasion.

My question on the speed though. His rate of execution far exceeded what i’m used to seeing. He could gain speed on heal with the centaur or air.Could the speed on heal grant 33% speed boon then also be combined with the trait compounding celerity? Does the speed boon stack with the compounding celerity? That could possibly explain his speed. His rate of execution though still befuddles me. Creating all his clones and phantasms so fast without what seemed like any cool down time. I know you can trait for sword and staff specific traits plus take illusionist celerity and phantasms recharge 20 % faster. All this creates a very fast turnover I think its like 13 second cooldowns or something. But I wasn’t seeing that. I stood back at one point to watch him work my team over. His play style was close to another charr Mesmer I’ve fought who people called waffles. But much faster. I have 2 other issues. How was this guy hitting s hard and also being so bunker at the same time?

What server was he on?

Orrian Truffle And Meat Stews do not stack with Vigor.

A good way of looking at it is Endurance Regen is similar to Movement Speed. The highest value is taken and all others are ignored. The only bypass is Thief Endurance on Roll, which is the equivalent of a blink/charge in terms of Movement Speed.

EDIT: I see you wrote about Compounding Celerity + Swiftness. As stated above, speed is always the highest value. This is why Compounding Celerity is a useless trait.

Are you saying one will cancel the other out? I always thought you retained the increase from both the food and the vigor. Like a stack although separate.

Vigor is a boon that increases endurance regeneration rate, allowing affected targets to dodge more frequently. Vigor does not stack with other effects which increase endurance regeneration rate (such as from certain traits and signets). Endurance regeneration rate is capped at 100% of the normal rate, which is most easily achieved when under effects of the vigor boon.

Well my ideas of how the guy was such a god are diminishing.

he could have just been good at micro(-manag)ing his cooldowns

Looks like he was using the feared 30/30/30/30/30 build. All illusion summoning skills get a 80% cooldown reduction (on top of illusionist’s celerity), he moves 2 times as fast and endurance regenerates 3 times faster. Sadly, this build is only available to people with 5000 hours on mesmer. If you ask me its very unfair if they use it to kill people instead of helping.
Alternatively: he was just a very good shattercat with perfect cooldown management. Us mesmers have a very high skillcap,some can go full berserker (this explains the high damage you saw) but still use our skills in such a way to rarely get hit.
If he was t using a focus than id have no idea hoe to get perma swiftness.

Regarding the quick shatters you mentioned, if you are sure that he’s using the same shatter without waiting for cd mesmers do have a few options for that. There is a trait that refreshes all shatters at hp 50% as well as an active signet use. Perhaps he was using either one of those. Or as others pointed out, good management of shatter cds.

Well even im not the guy you fought i probably use a similar build to that guy with same utitlitys.

So from personal experience…. yeah you can pretty much have perma vigor and with mirror images + decoy + clone skills on wep with reduced cooldowns you can shatter A LOT. Actually you can make 3 full shatter in like 3 secs if for any reason you wanted to. As you described it seems he did not only shatter a lot, it seems he was able to manage his cooldowns quite effective.

Also, about being tanky and dealing good dmg at the same time…. well, dont underestimate neither some kinght+chevalier combo on gears (it packs a good puch even when you are focusing a lot on thoughtnes) or just how good he might had been in avoiding dmg so everything you said its quite possible to do at the same time but you have to be quite good to do it and he seem to be a really good player.

Only thing is or you have boon duration runes to get almost perma swiftness from Temporal Curtain or you use runes of air/centaurs + focus to get perma swiftness. Theres no way to get perma swiftness without focus, or at least i havent found it. Runes of the centaur alone have a 15s cd so using Mirror he might have 12s swiftness every 15s.

That’s why I always have Dxtory running (like FRAPS), when I encounter something strange I’ll just hit the hotkey and start recording it. I can only recommend to do so, it really makes a later analysis a lot easier.

Can you explain this part? Would this be a 3 clone shatter 3 times or a full 3 clone 3 phantasm shatter 3 times in 3 seconds. Or some other combination?
