Making deceptive evasion a 3 point minor in illusions, and remove illusionist’s celerity reducing all illusion cooldowns across the board.

I say this because most builds I see running into illusions are forced to take DE. And Several builds that don’t take DE suffer from ridiculously long cooldowns of illusion summoning skill.

Edit: Really beat from work excuse the short post etc.

This would destroy pretty much everything except IP and MAIM shatter.

End of story.

I just always see people saying that they feel kitten by being FORCED to take DE. So I was mulling around some possible solutions.

It actually would make sense in Illusions trait line, and inspiration is actually the more phantasm-focused traitline (15% dmg on phantasms and whatnot) But IC is so kitten important! If anything, maybe move confusion on shatter to somewhere else? Hard to say.

To bring build diversity and satisfaction to both, pve and pvp players, it shouldn’t be a trait at all, it should be a class mechanic with a toggle to put on or off. It’s a no go in pve and a must have in pvp. But it won’t happen.

Quick history lesson:

Deceptive Evasion used to be the Minor Master trait in the Dueling traitline.

Many people loved it because it cost let trait points to get it.

However, because back then clones overwriting phantasms was worse than it is now, Phantasm Mesmers were not happy with being forced to take this trait if they wanted to put more points into Dueling which has some nice traits for phantasm builds.

Rather than make it a Major Adept trait, ArenaNet decided it should be a Major Master trait.

So here we are today.


Would it help with build diversity? Probably. It could hurt phantasm builds somewhat still, as the situations where you have 3 phantasms would get annoying when forced to dodge … but not as bad as before where the next dodge would replace another phantasm instead of the one clone out of the 3 illusions.

I don’t think it would help that much though as we are talking about a single trait point and our Minor Grandmaster traits aren’t much to write home about except when synergizing with multiple other traits … so not very flexible.

The Phant CD reduction makes more sense to be standard – DE is too much of a gameplay changing Trait to make it innate.

Gameplay changing? You mean Mesmer having the resource it needs for its class mechanic?

The way you’re talking is like you fear a Mesmer readily having clones out/access to clones as base would be a bad thing. When in reality it is almost always the difference between viability and not.

The only gameplay change here is functionality vs redundancy.

No I’m saying that clone on dodge changes how the Mesmer plays dramaticly and say a Phantasm Mesmer who wants to keep up 3 Phants being forced to take it isn’t very clever. Moving it to the Illusion 3 Minor Trait with a buff to clone skill recharges makes most sense.

I’m thinking of the whole game and balance – you’re just grabbing at something that is obviously uncharacteristicly strong and out of allignment with how the game is made.
