I have really, really had the worst luck this year with server moves. I’ve stayed marooned on Maguuma (not a bad place) to transfer back to BG, which was full, and now this Mes grouping occurs and FA becomes full and BG is now merely very full when now I’d prefer to join my fellow butterflappers in FA!!! Aaargh!

Is there some utility/website that tracks server fullness in real-time?

Any update on the organization?

Thanks for all the responses and interest folks! We’re up to 13-14 people that have confirmed availability and interest now, so we’ve almost reached the magic number of 20 that I want to run the raid with.

I do, however, believe that the group could be successfully run with 15 or so as well, so I’m going to go ahead and start laying down more formal arrangements.

There are a couple other folks I’m talking with as well that may join in the raid with us. There are still many people that originally expressed interest that haven’t yet responded to my PM, so we’ll likely still be getting more folks filtering in as time goes on.

Raid Times
Our tentative raid schedule will be Saturday at 3pm PDT, and Sunday at noon PDT. These times don’t quite fit the schedules given to me by everyone, but fitting all schedules is an impossibility. If you absolutely can’t make these times, pm me and I’ll see what we can do.

Raid Organization
20 people is 4 parties of 5, 15 being 3 parties of 5. Each party will have a close to identical makeup as follows:

1 person with MI and PU. They will run sw/sh+GS, Dom/chaos/chrono. Heal well, blink, well of calamity, well of precognition.

3 people sw/sh+staff. Dom/chaos/chrono. Heal well, blink, calamity, precog, grav well, taking CI and power block.

1 person condie sc/sh+staff. Ill/duel/chrono. MtD, blinding dissipation, mistrust. Heal well, blink, portal, precog, grav well.

Notes
Every person in the raid will have precog and blink. This gives us each 2 stunbreakers, and a total of 15 seconds of blur for everyone in the raid (5 precogs per party) if that amount of defense is necessary.

Every person has shield offhand. This means that we have a ton of defense from blocks, and will have a ton of aoe slow+alacrity from the phantasms. This also means that we have the potential for 40 shield walls at once, or 20 shield walls without going on cooldown. Since each shield wall will strip 2 stab in each direction, even just 10 shield walls is 20 stacks stripped each way.

1 person is running PU and MI per party. With the 10 target cap of MI, this gives us a total of 15s stealthed duration on the whole raid if necessary for maneuvering.

1 person is running condie and portal. Mistrust has the potential to stack really well in a group, and the added condie pressure is a nice way to diversify the damage. Calamity is worthless for a condie build, so these people run portal instead, giving us 4 portals to use as needed.

Assuming everyone is ready to rock and roll at the start time, raids should run ~2 hours, at least to begin with. First few raids might be shorter depending on how things go and such, but assuming 2 hours is safe.

Currently FA is closed for transfers, as Ross has been mentioning. I can only hope that Anet realizes how dead wvw is atm on a lot of servers and opens things back up, but the start of the raid may end up getting delayed depending on what happens with this situation. For now, assume that we’ll try to start raiding in about 3 weeks from this Saturday, and pray to Colin that FA opens up before then.

Now three weeks would be Thanksgiving weekend here in the States, so i probably can’t start until the following week.

Just a thought: You think we’d be able to go with a Time Catches Up build comp and run, let’s say, Mirror Images, Staff, and Shield? The idea would be doing a simple Mirror Images>Phase Retreat>Mind Wrack combo. Of course, illusions aren’t very well made to survive loads of AoE, but if we have 10-15 mesmers and very fast illusions, it’s possible we can load up the AoE target limit and get the majority of the clones through for a decent burst.

Time catches up would be pointless due to positioning. We’re only 20 people, all running builds that at the very least function in similar ways. We’re not gonna have a back line, everyone is gonna be hitting melee range at the same time. We’ll be relying on the absurd amount of cc we can do along with the potential for 15s of continual blur for our defense.

Being in melee range, time catches up doesn’t matter much. I fully expect us to be doing substantial damage from shatters as everyone produces illusions and burns them on top of the enemies.

Just a quick note on the lockdown again. We’ll be in 4 parties, and probably 2 each will be acting in tandem most of the time. Base cd on chaos storm is 35s, dropped to like 20-25 with chaos armor. Base cd on shield wall is 35s, dropped to 25 catching it. 25 with permanent alacrity puts us at 15s cd on our primary lockdown skills.

10 people will use chaos storm, 10 sh5, then swap to use what you haven’t yet. Both sh5 and chaos storm persist for some time, plus any interrupt/lockdown effects they proc easily gets us through the 7.5s duration for continual lockdown. Most Zerg front lines have 5 stacks of stability, potential for ~10, maaaaybe 15. 10 sh5 will break 20 stacks of stability in each direction. Chaos storm daze on top of that break even more.

I’m sure that the lockdown won’t work quite as perfectly as the math says, but I have a hard time envisioning how a group is going to escape that much cc unloaded from stealth.

This is all still unknown atm. I’m just hoping that Anet will open things back up, and that’s pretty much the most we can do. While moving the raid to a low tier server is a potential option, at least half of the people are already on FA, and a low tier server isn’t particularly fun to play on as an organized group due to the utter lack of other groups. The BLs are empty enough on FA, let alone a lower tier server.

I’m hoping that as time goes on, the BLs will pick up in activity to be actually decent to play on, so I’ve been spending some time roaming around in them to familiarize myself with the layout and paths, since they’re very different in setup and complexity compared to the old ones.

I already moved to FA, so I hope we don’t have to relocate. If we do I vote SBI, since that’s where my main account is.

Obviously the util variation isnt there, but those are just details. Pretty squish, but the gear is adjustable.

Okey dokes, I’m in FA now. Just transferred in today due to Anet’s mysterious server opening. Maybe it’s a Black Friday event? If it were, I wish it were discounted! 1800’s a lot of gems – but i think this will be worth it… I just love the idea of a mesmer raid!

That 3 minute fight when were were bombing on that group, and suddenly there some some sort of counter bomb and we had 6 downs (5 rallied) reminded me of that scene from Saving Private Ryan when the soldiers were swarming over that tank with their sticky bombs and that heavy anti personal machine cannon started ripping through them all XD

Raid went good. Fights were in order in vid, and we got better with our tactics over the course.

If you haven’t done WvW reset before, it’s best to be at the EB portal in LA spamming F when reset happens. Fashionably late is right out!
