Hello all!

I recently started a Mesmer after playing a Necromancer for the longest time. I sort of got tired of groups being… hesitant to take a Necro anywhere (PvE dungeon wise) so I figured I’d try out the Mesmer and I’m falling in love with the class already.

Is there any advice anyone can give me for leveling up? Such as what weapons work better just to burn through mobs faster, etc? I feel rather noobish (i’ve had some pretty embarrassing deaths…), so any other advice for leveling would be great.

Thanks in advanced!

Go to pvp and get level up tomes. You can also use crafting for experience. I’ve heard the eotm karma train is quite good as well.

Leveling a Mesmer the normal way is no longer fun. Until you hit 60, you’re completely useless, so just don’t bother. Use alternative ways of leveling to get to 60.

Mesmer is hardest at low levels – if you tough it out and level up without taking shortcuts, you will have a very good feel for the class.

It gets easier at lvl 50 when you start doing more damage.

for PvE i’d recommend Sword/Pistol + GS for damage. your phantasms can do most of your damage, and when your enemies are at 50-40% life, land a 3 clone/phantasm shatter to drop them.

For my part, it depends on how fast you want to get to 80 and how much open world you want to do. I just got to 80 literally 4 days ago, and I went the long route. There was a LOT of open world I hadn’t explored when I leveled my warrior, so I wanted to that. For me, I really really enjoyed GS/Staff. I did most of my leveling solo or duo, and this weapon combo fit ME best. It allowed me to do decent damage with GS and then use staff for defense. You should spend some time with all the weapons so you can be efficient with any build you may want to do later. Ultimately, open world is best enjoyed by what you like the most.

Dungeons, WvW and PvP are different beasts that are more specialized and require more specific builds. That said, I still enjoy doing dungeons with whatever I like, I just clearly state that in the group description (“Story Casual Play” or something like that).
