I was doing a dungeon earlier and realized something about the mantras functionality that I don’t think existed previously (at what time, I can’t state for sure). So, apparently, mantras start their recharge (aka. cooldown) after their first use, whether they have 2 or 3 charges. This means, if you have the 3-use mantra trait and cast your healing mantra, you can discharge 1 heal right away and leave the other 2 sitting in your status bar, ready to be used. When you use those 2 charges, as long as the 10 second recharge for that mantra has passed since your use of the first charge, your “prepare-mantra” skill will now be charged.

Is this how mantra are suppose to work, and I never noticed, or is this new functionality of the mechanic?

The community noticed, and many think it works as it should. I personally doubt since they never announced this change and this sounds too good to be true.

I really hope that’s intended, because it feels so much more natural (I don’t have to slot another utility when I finish a duel with just one mantra charge left anymore, I can just press it), and mantra builds are finally viable in pvp! But if it was to stay this way, maybe the CDs need to be reworked a bit, since the heal is pretty much spammable now.

I thought it was a bug, I still think it is a bug, but actually this is how mantras should work. I hope they will keep this change but increase the CD of the healing mantra, since this one is really ridiculous :P I don’t think this mechanic is broken or op, it actually gives a smoother mantra play.

Yeah I noticed and I must say it feels much nicer, some mantras like resolve and concentration are much more useful now because of it.

Having said that mantra of recovery is extremely strong with harmonious mantras and restorative mantras.

To be honest this was one of the suggestions we made when discussing how horrid mantras felt. This change I believe is intended, they just kept quiet to allow them to wait and see how powerful it is in the meta.

I think mantra were always used but often only for the “passive” damage boost. Since now you need to use them to get something out of them, this is of course a welcome change, but I don’t believe it is intentional. It it too big of a change for them not to report it. Also, the cool down of the skills does not mean much anymore, so I really don’t think it’s intentional.

Since now you need to use them to get something out of them, this is of course a welcome change, but I don’t believe it is intentional. It it too big of a change for them not to report it. Also, the cool down of the skills does not mean much anymore, so I really don’t think it’s intentional.

Hum, recovery is a tad too strong Right now. Others are good.
I hope anet Keep them Like They are Atm except recovery which needs 15sec cd

I’d be fine if the mantra of recovery had its CD slightly increased. With the inspiration traits, the mantras make dom/duel/insp staff/GS mesmer with mantra heal and daze mantra the most sustainy burst class I’ve ever played. Like I have so much healing and condi cleanse that I won’t die unless I get focused outright by multiple people, and with all the teleports (even with no stealth), I can escape pretty easily.

I don’t think its broken since it is counterable, but it is really strong, and good positioning is needed, as with anything else.

I’m going to point out the new cele ele that’s more or less unkillable
MM necros that can tank 2-3 ppl easy
Warrior rampage that CC then 1 shot ppl .

You only feel op because they other players haven’t found their OP build yet.

Sometimes I wonder why didnt they do this earlier. That intermediate cd was never a good idea since cast time was kinda long.

I kinda wish this just remove the cd and kept the original case time from release time. Oh well, matras now have a ceiling that they must be 2 and 3/4 seconds powerful.

Keep in mind that they removed the mantra cooldown trait. You used to be able to trait the cooldowns 20% lower, but you can’t anymore. Considering that, I feel that even the healing mantra is in a good spot.

I hope it’s intentional. Some people suspect that one of the Elite Specs will get Mantras and that this change was made behind the scenes as they were looking ot make them more viable.

It’s worked really well and I hope ANet doesn’t do something crazy like reverting it. I’d rather they add a CD between casts than remove this new functionality. One reason I always hated Mantras was that I’d end up with 1 charge left after a fight and have to burn it on nothing then wait for the cool down. Now I usually just burn through my Mantras per fight, recharging if I find myself in the opportunity to do so (I basically spam mantras during the canon phase of Mai Trin for the extra toughness if I’m in a bad position). Eitherway, at the end of a fight I can generally burn through any remaining charges and quickly recharge.

Simply put, it’s a huge QoL change for Mantras and ANet would be crazy to revert it. It’s what they’ve been missing for years now.

I think it was intended: I believe it was said another class was getting mantras in HoT. When the dev team began working on that, the people in charge of that other classes specialization realized how absolutely kittenty mantras were, and since the other class is not mesmer, this could not stand. Thus mantras were changed to actually function well.

That is my guess, I hope things stay this way.

Beeing quiet about it is the best way to say either “hey we intended this, look at us and how aweseome we are for what we’ve done!” so we love them, or to say “yea we removed it, it was a bug, ~obviously~ cough and would be op to leave it like this” and we couldn’t be mad at them. If they would have added it with an announcement, we would hate them for nerfing it. :P

Working as intended. Much easier to keep your damage bonus from Harmonious Mantras going, which is the point. As with a lot of the patch’s improvements, this is something that should’ve been the case all along, and with three years of metrics and feedback, the devs knew what they were doing.
