We have 1 single 33% run speed with no passives or other 33% run speeds?

This stinks I use GS/Staff goes really well together and to be forced into using X/Focus for exploration is just well not very nice.

Can’t we get a pve only 33% run speed buff that is am ability/skill to help with pve and getting around?

I’d also prefer Staff/GSword but the Focus is just too important. faster move + unfair pull.

The Staff CAN also give you Swiftness. Chaos Area gives you swiftness in ~33% of the cases.
The other reliable but weak option is blink.

Last but not least, the Trait “move faster for each illusion” …

Well, you can’t have everything.

Yeap, out of the combat we are. EasymodeX will try to tell you that we are not, but we really are. Particularly if you aren’t running with focus.

Pink butterflies still rock though

Yeah, probably staring on all these butterflies a mesmer can’t afford himself running fast) and even Focus is not that good for PvE runing as a passive bonus could be much more convinient. Focus is only 40% uptime 33% increase, making it only 13.2% in passive equialent. And illusions granting faster runspeed is not for PvE runing anyway.
As for Pvp, personally I use it, just because I hope it has atleast a slight impact. Without blink it’s not that easy to chase someone or to runaway. + the cripple thing from sword is only 600 distance and bug sometimes Actually I would like to know how high is speed increase from trait.

I can’t express my hatred, when I’m running with sword\sword and need switching from swiftness focus to off-hand sword.
But all that pales in comparison to running through new curtain with at least 1 seconds of previous swiftness.

Yeah, as if our movement wasn’t bad enough, it doesn’t stack with other swiftness because some people exploited early on and kept running through their own wall repeatedly.

Temporal Curtain is a completely ridiculously amazing skill but pretty lame for getting around. Mesmer is pretty bad at getting around out of combat, but has a whackload of mobility in combat.

I agree though, it not stacking is really bad. I’ve died a few times to running through my curtain right as some other swift is wearing off (3s from Chaos Storm, thanks a lot) and my runeset gives me every boon for 5s when I use an elite skill, meaning everyone in my group but me gets the benefit from curtain whenever I mass invis.

It’d be great if instead of kittening the only swift mesmer has they fixed their exploits in other ways.

You’re not forced to use it for exploration.. If you feel forced into it, then you’re probably trying to rush it. If you enjoy exploring and the profession, you will see that you don’t need swiftness at all for exploration. Now, I don’t know about Orr, there’s a lot of complains about it and I don’t really want to finish exploring yet, but I explored everything but Orr region and WvW and I had a blast without swiftness.

But yeah, if you really want increased movement speed, mesmers doesn’t have many options.

I’m only responsible for what I say, not for what you understand.

Yeah this really needs fixing.

Its the equivalent of other MMOs deciding that one class can’t use mounts.

What? You’re not forced into anything.

Map your “hero” key so that it’s close to your WASD keys (mine is “R”), and set it so that your focus is the first weapon that shows up in the top left corner of the “hero” pane. After that, you can quickly R → double click Focus → R → 4 → R → double click previous weapon.

I’ll admit it is a pain, but it doesn’t force you into anything.

Well it does force u to swap weps using a method you described… it’s definitely a pain and not “fun”.

Other professions tend to have a weapon with a run buff along with a second option. That second option may be a +speed trait (warrior w/melee, ele in air attune, etc). The second option may be a skill (ranger signet passive, guardian “retreat”). For mesmer we don’t have a second option. Not sure if that applies to any other class as I don’t know all of them well enough.

I’d really like to run GS/Staff in WvW. Right now I run GS/X+focus because focus is essentially a “must have”. Another option is run with buddies and hope they buff you too and wait when their run-passives get them too far ahead of you.

Ya, It’s a must for WvW.

But even PvE, you can just stand and kill every mob. You’ll train through a few then the ones that stick you’ll LoS pull and AoE. The slower you are, the more mobs you end up having to fight. Unless I’m in an instance, I’m using all the run speed I can on any class.

Coming from an engi main this is probably my biggest gripe with playing mes. I would like to go gs/s+p but focus seems to be too important to drop.

Yes, we really are this slow.

Ever try running back to Giganticus Lupicus in Arah after waypointing? It takes forever, and you can see your allies speeding off without you. Needing to swap to Focus, then back to the Staff or G.Sword during that run is annoying and still I’m the slowest one to get back.

This was probably intentional for balance reasons. Portal plus a passive run speed boost would be way overpowered.

Portal doesn’t help you run faster — just get back to where u were faster (and only if u want to do that within 50 seconds). This isn’t about combat, we already know mesmer is mobile in combat. This is trudging accross the wilderness, and portal does beans for that.

I didn’t suggest that it did. I was just pointing out the potential game balance issues that would result from giving a passive run speed boost to the same class with a group-wide teleport.

When I got rune of the centaur, it drastically improved my enjoyment of the mesmer class, combined with its 20% increased swiftness uptime and mirror heal on a short cooldown, I am running with swiftness almost 90% of the time. Plus its stats are not bad either, more power and bleed duration. I am drifting away from condition damage as I think its not that effective in PVP compared to burstier shatters.

So the only solution other than the focus one is to get runes of the centaur. But is it not for levels 65+? This kinda affects those who are still leveling their mesmers or interested in doing so as other classes are able to finish zones more quickly simply by moving a lot faster. Moreover, would not equiping 6 of these runes make us enable to equip other runes which might better fit whatever build we are using?

There are some other options at lower levels. For example, at level 40 you could combine 4pc Major Rune of the Air with 2pc Major Rune Rune of the Pack and Warden’s Feedback to maximize your swiftness uptime.

I’m also surprised that no one mentioned that the 6pc Superior Rune of Traveler bonus gives you a passive 5% run speed.

I have been advocating giving signet of Inspiration a 10% passive move speed component while removing swiftness from it’s in-combat buffs. People used the skill in beta because it helped us move around, but since they made it only active in combat we’ve been short general movement increasing options.

I was pretty annoyed with feeling forced to use focus all the time, but I’ve really fallen in love with that “knock back” move thing that you can do. Void, is it called?

It’s so amazingly useful in both PvP and PvE, and I find the ability to use that pretty much (or almost) makes up for having to use that weapon.

If the current duration of swiftness is less than the curtain duration, the curtain should overwrite it.

How hard is this.
