August 6th Mesmer Changelog
My GW2 is patching right now so it’s speculation.
I welcome the Counter Blade speed and increased effect SIZE. The orb was so slow and small. With the datamined or new runes wich gives confusion on interrupt, it should be fun. Then, confusion sucks anyway.
Easier to interrupt iLife.
Nothing much to say.
Wow – I’m really excited about Veil changing to a Light field. I’ve been really wanting to experiment with traited Duelist shooting through a Light field to see what happens for condition removal.
After reading the rest of the patch, there were a few minor bug fixes/changes and a lot of text correction but I think the mesmer was the only class that recieved a “major buff.”
I’d have to try out counter blade in PvP before deciding if it’s worth it though. Hitting upwards of 7k ripostes is really hard to pass up. Also, the p.duelist might have been stealth nerfed. If they looked at the trait, is it still a 100% finisher when traited? As every major patch, we still need to look for any stealth changes as well.
Veil might be a slight buff for our anti conditions abilities with finishers but it doesn’t seem worth it.
Counter Blade buff sounds quite juicy; Anet keeps pushing the interrupts. AoE daze was manageable as it was in a line but now will have to see how much more effective it is. Duelist change also has me scratching my head a bit – why greater than 1200 range? I’m pretty sure 1200 range was working properly with the trait. If it was indeed increased, that’s a nice buff.
I think the iDuellist change should be read as “Before, the range was always 1200, and the trait did nothing about it. Now, the base range is correctly 900, and the trait correctly increases it.” But it’s just speculation, I’m not at home to test it.
Poor counterspell.
Counterblade is fast now, much easier to interrupt. So glad.
sweet. I may have to jump from Staff back to Scepter/Sword and change Chaotic Dampening for Bountiful Interruption…
I want Retaliatory Shield, but I think Dazzling would be more useful

The fix to veil is a nerf imo.

Nerf to condition builds; buff to power builds.

Has anyone confirmed what the duelist change is about? It still appears to be a 1200 range in some quick testing. The patch notes are oddly worded:
“Phantasmal Duelist: This skill now has its range increased with Duelist’s Discipline. Fixed a bug that enabled the duelist from being cast at 1200 range at all times”
Did they mean "disabled the duelist from being cast at 1200 range at all times?
If that’s the case, they mean it didn’t always cast at 1200 range with duelist’s discipline? Then if that’s true, it’s not necessarily true that they increased the range as the notes said.
I’m assuming the duelist change was that previously you could cast it from 1200 range even if you didn’t have it traited.
I did test having a traited duelist shoot through veil, and it does remove conditions. It’s a bit tricky to set up, but it works.
Also undocumented change- double blink with Far Reaching Manipulation switching no longer works.

Ha, it’s like Anet wants to slow Mesmer OOC down even more.

With Veil CD, it’s not like we used it primarily for the combo field, so at least it isn’t a massive nerf.

Iirc you could cast it at 1200 range, but it could only shoot for 900 (no matter if traited or not), so it had to run a bit after casting it at max range. Now you can only cast it at 1200 range if you’ve traited for it (like it was intended), and then the phantasm also shoots at a range of 1200 like it’s supposed to (bugfix). That’s how I understand it.

It’s more like they fixed an exploitable bug.

This would explain the second sentence and makes sense, but still leaves me confused on the first sentence. What did they increase the range to? I know for a fact that pre-patch, traited the Duelist worked at 1200 range. So if you increase that, what is it? I did some testing yesterday and it appears to still be 1200.
Counter Blade projectile is awesome. Playing scepter/sword phantasm build last night made me wish the scepter/staff attacks moved that fast… one can dream…
