I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the new Mesmer specialization got axed.

Is that serious or are you trying to say that axe is the new weapon? In either case, source please.

I’m not a fan of axe skins in general, but oh well. As long as we don’t get a turban as our elite specific armor skin… I usually don’t like helmets that hide your characters hair. The icons looked quite interesting, though.

I’ve loved the idea of MH axe on mesmer ever since the first leak that talked about it. I’m super excited about learning what sort of weapon skills we get with it.

I have to say that i like actually like the idea of mesmer using an axe. Kinda like in a way of how you your phantasmal warden is whirling with duel axe. But ofc that depends on what the new spec will mean for mesmer

Unfortunatly there only two Axe skins I like on Mesmer, bloodstone and Astralaria.

If what the other leaks (I can’t keep track of which ones were proved right and which were bandwagoning) it sounds like it should help make PvE less of a drag and since they are willing to do PvE/PvP splits now hopefully it won’t get butchered like the Chrono. Can’t wait to see more about it.

Really? I think that Dreamthisthle Axe, Reaver of teh Mists, and Violet Antique Reaver would all look great on a mesmer

I could probably tolerate Axe offhand, but I’ve always disliked one handed ones in general especially on mesmer. So I’m personally not looking forward to a main hand one. :/

It wouldn’t be a big deal if wasn’t probably going to be the most viable thing.

I saw it yesterday. The first icon (gray) is the main weapon like in all professions, the second icon represents different things depending of the profession, but like Firebrand and Spellbreaker, in our case is the off-hand weapon, so we’ll be able to wield two axes. If I’m right.

My doubt is if it’ll be ranged or melee.

While I would like dual axes since Warrior gets dual daggers, If it works like the first lot of elite specs the second icon will be the first minor trait that just gives us access to the new/replacement F skills.

With the new weapon preview stance I can get a better sense of what the axes would look like so I’m now more open to some of them. Those 3 in prticular though, I don’t really like.

One good mes will get cool looking axe skin (if the leaks are true), but also we get dull headgear probably.

You also get a whole new set of F skills. As in your shatters are replaced.

Edit: I also heard it is/was very good in pve. It will get toned down from that for sure though but you get me, probably not to abysmal levels.

Axe seems a decent choice for the mirage theme.

But what is more important is the actual skills the weapon carries. I really hope it will be more like sword with that slippery mesmer feeling rather than the clunky scepter skill design.

If i interpret? right, they should just be new shatters but im not 100% sure if they are since it sounds a bit silly considering i dont know how that would help mesmer in PVE to the extent it has. Maybe its just a crazy buff to them or some mechanic within them that helps so much.

Could just be utilities and elite as well i guess that did it, who knows.

Yes, after see a capture of the Firebrand in action… it seems that. Which does not give me much hope. If that axe icon is to F skills, we’ll still be tied to illusions, I don’t see them programming a new version of all skills/utilities due to one single specialization.

Unless you turn the phantasms into clones when you activate the specialization (copy paste code), and make the F skills your main dps source. Plus the new healing skill, utilities and elite. Who knows.

The way Mo talked about it in the developer AMA definitely makes it sound like they are real.

A lot of work was put into those images if they weren’t real. A lot of work. I can’t imagine what someone would stand to gain from making them look so GW2-ish. No market manipulation was in that leak at all, so they stand to gain nothing at all from putting in a lot of work if that leak was fabricated.

Aerial of maps, a mechanic, masteries, and elite names and weapons however nothing regarding story, characters, or enemies. Even the title name of the expansion would have been a bigger leak and easily faked. Whoever leaked wasn’t out to damage the game or fool anyone and I wouldn’t be too surprised if it wasn’t Anet themselves who leaked since it would build hype and remove any responsibility from them if things change down the line. It also gives people something to talk about while not directly comparing GW2 to the other expansions coming out this year Stormblood and Morrowind.

On the topic of axes though I think Mesmer needs another melee option so I’m alright with it however in terms of an offhand I don’t think anything pairs well with an axe. Other than a shield but that’s locked behind Chrono or another axe which I highly doubt will be the case.

It was definitely not leaked by Anet themselves. Its too much leaked too early for them to have done it. If it was Anet I could see it maybe being a single map shot instead of all 5.5 of them, maybe another elite spec icon with possibly 1 elite spec tree. But this far out, especially when they are trying hard to focus on LWS3, there’s no way a leak that big was officially sanctioned.

I can’t see that works. Our biggest lack for a dps specialization is that our illusions die if their target die. It’s not viable. You can’t only think in bosses when you can have three phantasms up, it’s necesary make it viable all game modes pve (in general) , wvw, pvp… You can see them die so often before cast their skill or in the middle of a long attack (warden,berserker,…), even trying to avoid it.

Meh, I am still waiting for my Mainhand Pistol for Mesmers since 2012.

Last expansion every other class got cool mainhand/2hand stuff and we got shafted with a crappy offhand shield. And now we get a crappy axe.

I really would have loved to get a mainhand pistol so we could have had a cool onehanded ranged power weapon as we are really lacking one.

All I know is that it will be a good excuse to craft Astralaria…if I can live with myself running a [Spoiler] build.

I don’t really care if its axe or pistol. The leaks could have been designed to mislead. I don’t know. Only Anet does. One nice thought is that they could do what they should have done with HoT: release two new elite specs. The dearth of elite specs for so long has really been a strain on this game. Having three could really open up build options and help resolve the purity of purpose problem for elite specs.

Yea 2 new elite specs per class is one of the biggest things I want from this expansion. Make them what they were sold as, specializations. Give us options to choose from instead of just having a “specialization” line that is better at almost everything than your core lines are.

Cleaving hybrid weapon, that’s all I want from axe.

I would be ecstatic for an mh axe. In fact, its probably my most preferred weapon. As others have mentioned, Astralaria would go perfectly with a mesmer.

As long as it’s melee or has some sort of cleave then im good.

Can’t get excited about any of it tbh. Whatever they release they will promptly nerf to uselessness anyway.

Unfortunately one of the leaks I read, don’t know how true or if outdated, says all clones are now phantasms. Now with how easy we can throw out clones this would fix some things but keeping our dps tied to Phantasms is still going to cause major problems.

On the other hand a guy in the reddit thread who people seemed to believe also said it was currently doing 80k dps in test. Even though it will be toned down that still suggests at damage coming from more then phantasms.

Actually, it does fit the theme of the class pretty well and it’s also what I’m hoping for. Granted, not all trait icons would fit but overall it makes sense. In the end a mirage – or fata morgana – is nothing else than a Deception which could easily happen in the desert (Oasis).

Just hoping that Deceptions don’t take away from Manipulations. Looking at you, Wells (offense + defense + support). Still slightly salty about it from a Glamour perspective (mainly support)

Can you imagine, already with things like Decoy and Prestige, then other deception utilities. Nevermind all clones becoming phantasms (this part didn’t make sense to me in terms of making it difficult to distinguish the mesmer, unless they are planning on overhauling phantasm visuals for mirage so they look identical to us) and taking the relevant phantasm traits from say, Inspiration or Illusions…

I can guess at some seriously troll builds that could arise from this.

If axe has a blur and hybrid damage then I’ll happily swap sword for it. I doubt it will have the mobility of ileap for chasing people or kiting around maps in pvp, but on the other hand I’m sure just like how Shield was totally superior to Focus on HoT release, Axe will be superior to sword as a melee weapon, at least to begin with but perhaps with a couple of trade offs.

Astralia is probably my favourite HoT legendary, but I’ve never had an excuse to craft it. Now I (hopefully) do.

Also, I like that it’s finally a solid DPS spec.

Cleaving condi would be even better, scepter is just to clunky, especially the block.

Interesting, I would have said the exact opposite. I’d prefer it as a 600-range single target power weapon.

The reason being that we already have a melee range cleaving power weapon. A second one hence has no purpose other than immediately make one worse depending on current balance.

There could be a point to it if Sword 3 were changed to be defensive in nature (making Sword a fully defensive weapon), but that’d be meh for anyone who isn’t a mirage.

Hence I’d rather have a mid-range power weapon, and maybe use the lack of cleave as a balancing part to high single-target damage.
