Having a look at the new Druid specialisation, I’m pretty excited with the number of synergies you can create with mesmer in HoT.
We used to have thief and mesmer to deliver pain train. We then have chronomancer coupling with reaper to deliver slow/chill combo for BWE1/2. Now you can try out lockdown mesmer with druid for the powerful locking synergy on the trait ancient seed. Remember the annoyance of ranger’s entangled elite when using range weapon? Now its going to be happening a lot more common!
One of the druid trait, ancient seed, is a 10s CD skill that applies 5s immobilizing root when strike opponent who are hard CCed. With accessible dazes/stuns, lockdown mesmers can help druid maintain extremely high immobilization uptime.
Having a root like that also makes chain CC a lot more rewarding against opponent who applies continuous stabilities like reaper shroud, rampage, lich, plague etc.
Many builds these days have reduce immob duration by 25-33% etc, but if the root is still intact then the subsequent immob application will stop opponent from breaking free without attacking the roots.
The amount of boon strips memser provides give the best chance for druid to utilize ancient seed.
The condition cleanses and healings druid applies may solve the problem that lockdown mesmer lacks in condition cleanse (except when traiting for inspiration). Allowing lockdown mesmer to trait for full offensive like domi/dueling/chaos or dueling/chaos/chrono to best utilize interrupt capabilities.
Though a bit overkill, but I can think of power lockdown mesmer/ancient seed druid/chill reaper having a good lockdown synergy in team fight. The immobilization that the former two provide can stop enemy from escaping reaper. The continuous chill from reaper is more or less a bonus to mess up opponent’s CD (particularly against D/D ele in my experience at BWE2). But reaper can be swap with a more DPS class, though lockdown mesmer or reaper can probably fill that role. Don’t know how that will fair against standard comp right now though.
