Best farm build/AoE build?
If you just want to tag stuff in zerg evrnts… You best bet would be to go with sword/focus, greatsword.
Use 0/20/0/0/30 as build, mirror images as utility.
The phantasms are aoe and should get you alot of tags, you can also shatter in melee range to tag up to 5 things.
Hope this helps :/.

Play another class. Mesmers are not fast enough to make it to the champions in time before the warriors/etc kill them and don’t have enough AoE to tag the mobs.
If you really want to do this with a mesmer, the build above will do it. It’s the basic shatter build.

20/20/0/30/0 is my build, using Greatsword + Sword/Focus. Spec for Focus Reflection and Greatsword cooldown % so you can throw more Phantasms and Clones out with 4 and 2 respectively. upon casting, immediately shatter. The reason you spec for reflection and bring Feedback as a utility is that ranged mobs will shoot blindly into it and usually they damage themselves enough to count as a tag.
Warriors/Guardians/etc WILL be better at tagging and AoE farming than Mesmer, but we aren’t miserable/useless at it.
Try using 0/30/10/0/30
If getting to champions in time before they die is an issue, trait blink for longer range and short cooldown (1200range, 24CD).
You can even try 0/20/10/10/30 for compounding celerity, which increases movement speed. Youd lose the sword cooldowns though.

If AOE is what you want, Mesmer is not the class for you. Any other class will do, but if you are looking for light armored AOE specifically then perhaps try an Elementalists .

This should get the job done. Howver, like others have said, for more consistent tags use a different class. I suggest necro cuz you have range and good surivability. That said, I still take my mesmer cuz … pink butterflies.

Stick a sigil of fire on the GS too, for more aoe burst / tagging.
In queens event I just use a glam build and tag lots (helps that mobs keep clumping up) see loads of numbers flying around and my bags are constantly full. even hit the centaur legendry boss guy for almost 8k on a confuse

The advice in this thread is so bad it’s almost malicious.
10/30/0/30/0 is the default, and most superior PvE build for all intents and purposes. Champion farming requires context to understand what you want, but Pavilion and Frostgorge champion farming are incredibly do-able as a Mesmer.
Use Sword/Focus and Sword/Pistol. Your auto-attacks will strike 3 creatures at a time, Blurred Frenzy accomplishes the same goals, and a well-placed Phantasmal Warden can tag many, many creatures at once.
To keep pace with the zergs, use Focus-4, Temporal Curtain, to maintain swiftness and make sure you run through Symbols of Swiftness, or try to group with others to catch other classes Warhorns and blast finishers in Lightning fields. Blink, which is not necessary to trait, will allow you to stay with the pack. I have been non-stop farming champions and required nothing more than a focus and blink to keep with zergs.
WvW is a different story, but I don’t believe you are asking about that.
Wouldn’t a shatter build be better since you can use two AOE phantasms, mirror images, deceptive evasion and strong shaters to tag mobs?

Tagging mobs is not difficult in PvE. Phantasms are better damage, and nothing is stopping you from shattering phantasms when a creature is close to death, anyway.
I’ve not had any trouble in Frostgorge champ runs with a 0/20/20/0/30 build (rabid armour and weapons). I open with torch#5 to get confusion up, sceptre#3, dodge, dodge, shatter#2. I do run centaur runes though because I wvw a lot and mobility is important for me, so I’m usually up the front of the champ zerg.
