So I’m pretty indecisive. I have a Norn female mesmer. Maybe it’s the gigantism, but something compels me to make a new mesmer with looks that I prefer.

Let’s hear the opinions on which race makes the mesmer class look kitten good doing what it does best.

Sylvari. Who else can glow the same colors as their butterflies? Not to mention, you get the cool levitating GS autoattack.

The Asura will eventually take over Tyria anyway.

I liked making a Sylvari, it just felt like the most natural fit for a Mesmer. But it’s probably more of a personal taste thing. If you like Norn, that’s probably what works best for you. Sylvari feel very graceful and mystical, kind of elegant as well. Which seems very Mesmery. Sylvari are also pretty mysterious, which is a big Mesmer thing. But the criteria I had to determine the race I chose is probably different.

Here’s how I feel about each race.

Human – Looks fine, but too dull and mainstream for me. If you don’t mind having a character like everyone else, make human.

Norn – Too big.. Otherwise, it’s fine, you’ll feel kinda slow, but massive clones and going against the flow can be fun.

Sylvari – A lot of really nice looks for it, seems to fit the mesmer theme. I would only make a female sylvari though. Named mask, x shoulders, aurora chest, primitive gloves, arah legs, x boots looks really, really nice.

Charr – You can make it look so funny, if that’s your thing, but some serious armors are lacking IMO. The one you get if you have a GW1 account looks nice and a few others.

Asura – It seriously lacks some nice, serious armor, a lot of clipping, but I love the race, the way they dodge, the lines they use ect. Plus, it’s harder to tell your animations, you can hide easier (if you’re a 2ft asura, you can hide behind a 3ft wall, but a 6-7 foot tall charr can’t hide behind that wall) if you PvP. I wouldn’t make an asura just because of that. It’s not as important, but it can help a bit. HOTW armor looks quite nice, as well as Acolyte and the one you get if you have GW1.

My 5 mesmers one per race. Sylvari and Charr are my favourites, then Asura, then the others :P

I say Sylari not unlike my mesmer. It’s such a cool race to play as a light caster type character. Not to mention you are now arguably the most original rpg profession and also perhaps the most original rpg race—this is up for debate of course.

Sylvari. Mesmer is such a colorful profession, lotsa pinks & purples. My Sylvari Mesmer is dark purple and perfectly represents the Mesmer look. As you can see in this link

But seriously it just made a lot of sense for my magic-oriented norn, who has the snow leopard totem.

Charr.

The sheer amount of individuality you can have is excellent. Ive never, ever looked at a Charr player, and thought “Oh, he looks like X person’s character.”

and they have the only unique body-type in the game. All the other races are straight up humanoid, whereas Charr has a slightly different look.

But please try to make the face not look like a 6 year olds otherwise we can only assume you’re a pedophile.

Coming a close second (and is actually what my mesmer is):
Blue Sylvari wearing a white T2 setup with holgraphic dragon wings.
Weapons: Vision of the mists/kasmeer staff , whisperblade and anomaly/lyssa pistol.
= all sorts of white, pink and blue flowy- shimmery awesomeness <3

I made a second mesmer as a charr (with the biggest build and the tallest height) for sPvP and I’ve never had so much fun.

The Arah armor is so cool on asuras. It just sucks i dont like any of the light armor classes! I try to like mesmer, but i just…idk

Should be tier 1 or 2 cultural chest/legs/boots and the achievement shiny shoulders and gloves.

Tier 2 cultural light on male sylvari shows all of your back and other body parts that glow. Match your skin, glow and hair to the colors you will dye the armor. You can thank me later.

The leaf-brained shrubs do look very good, I will agree on this point.
