Carrion vs Rampager
You have to check and see if your trait setup gets and advantage from precision. e.g. minor that makes bleeds on crit…otherwise, it’s better to go carrion.
If you decide you want both precision and survivability, there are pieces out there with +cond, +toughness, + precision. But this is not a craftable set.
I am running a full condition build and am using Carrion with some carma crit/toughness/cond gear in the mix (plan is to swap all armor for that and keep carrion jewelry). Carrion will contribute well for the survivability much better than rampager.
literally – if you don’t want to die EVER – go carrion or the karma crit/tough/cond
okay another question how do you guys apply conditions staff skill 1 and the trait that applies bleed on crits for illusions?
Here is what I use:
4 pieces of Condition/Toughness/Precision gear from Orr temples
2 pieces of Toughness/Power/Precision crafted (working on 2p Power/Tough/Vit Karma gear)
5p Carrion jewelry
Bramblethorn staff (condition/tough/precision)
Carrion scepter/focus
With the staff and the staff mastery trait, I’m around 1700 toughness and 1400 condition damage with 31% crit, around 1450-1500 power

Scepter for those that are interested, as well as obviously Cry of Frustration.
Sharper Images, Illusionary Retribution, and Debilitating Dissipation are also popular condition focused traits.

My condition Mesmer has full Rabid armour (Perc+/Tough/Con), full Rampager jewellery and weapons (Perc+/Str/Con).
However it may depend on your style of play in which is the best. I depend much more on crits for applying my conditions (Sword+Pistol/GSword) than say, a Sceptre/Staff wielding condition Mesmer, so all that Precision is really needed. I find that the toughness given from the Rabid armour is very satisfactory for survivability (especially so with a main hand sword).
Short answer: Stat distribution depends entirely on how you play your Mesmer. Rampager for all out damage, Carrion sacrificing crit rate for survivability, and Rabid sacrificing Power for survivability.

What about trait wise? I’m thinking something like 0/20/25/0/25
The key thing is if you’re going for condition damage: The numbers won’t get really viable at 80 until your Cond is near 1500 it doesn’t matter how you get there. That’s more of a playstyle choice.
I recently converted my mesmer into condition damage particularly working off a confuse build and while I’m not dpsing like crazy it’s highly enjoyable.

I currently have full berserker and want to make a 2nd set for condition. Not sure what to go with between carrion and rampager. I mainly do dungeons and WvW
rabid set
Mesmer condition damage would be way more viable if shatter confusion lasted 5 seconds instead of 3.
The decision between carrion vs rampager simply comes down to if you are using Sharper Image in you build or not if you are rampager gear what you want if not then carrion.

Thanks for the reply can’t seem to find rabid gear. It is toughness/condition/precision right? Is it only available through dungeon/karma gear? Also do you go all rabid gear what about gems/runes?

Yup, Rabid gear is only available for dungeon tokens or karma unfortunately. and yes, its condition (main)/ precision/toughness.
However, there is no rabid jewels. I’ve only found green earrings for karma in front of Arah, but nothing similar for amulet or rings.
Consequently, for the moment, I have a mix of rampager amulet and carrion rings (all those 3 exotics).
I don’t like it but there’s no choice, and Anet won’t talk about this problem so nobody knows anything about it.
Seems only some dungeons have these particular stats guess i’m going to have to waste like 200k karma. Why exactly did anet not make these craftable?
Don’t know, but it’s not the only one armor not craftable. It’s not such a problem as we can have with dungeon tokens, which is not that hard.
What really bothers me is that we can’t absolutely get any rabid jewels, except those green earrings I got …
The fact that there is NO way is frustrating …
