Hello, this is a build I’ve been running for a few weeks now. I’ve entered a few guild tourneys, and have dueled quite a few people on this build and have found that it is very powerful due to it’s inherent dps/condi capabilities. I just wanted to share it to see what everyone thought, and maybe see if a few others maybe wanted to try it as well.

bhagwad loses a point for only paying half attention

This is an spvp build, where it’s been pretty well established that PU is not overpowered*, and so is a defensive choice versus an offensive one.

And as far as that goes, there’s nothing wrong with choosing defense if that’s how you need to roll to succeed.

For my part, I’m wondering if you actually need MI. I’ve been experimenting with taking Moa signet instead, and I haven’t really felt like I’ve lost much, while I know that I’m gaining ground vs the all-important hard cc.

*also, even if it were particularly powerful in spvp, pretending there is something wrong with a build including the best stuff is scrub thinking.

At any rate, I feel like PU isn’t optimal for this build. I’d definitely go with BD instead. You’ve got a lot of sustain and defense of various forms, so the stability meshes very well with that. Since this isn’t a spike build, PU doesn’t let you manouver to unload a massive burst. It would let you manouver to do a combo that then started killing the enemy and engaged them in a fight with you. That’s really not rewarding at all, and once the fight starts, PU is loads less worthwhile. In a power build, you can use it to finish a fight before it even begins. In this build, not so much.

In general, you’ll need to be careful with your shatters here though. Without DE, you’ve got a drastic paucity of illusion production, so you may end up being rather starved for shatters a lot of the time. I’m honestly not convinced of the effectiveness of this build for that reason. All of your hard pressure and a significant portion of your sustain revolves around shatters, but you can’t really shatter a ton. Will be interesting to see how it works out at least.

Thank you for the constructive criticisms! I made a few adjustments to better fit your concerns. Such as adding the signet and BD. I agree with these changes, although PU is actually helpful to take pressure off of me, and in not being an open target for SA thieves. But ill have to try this out to see where it takes me! The arcane thievery is what i use 50%of the time, the signet is what i use the other 50% of the time. It changes based upon who im either dueling/playing against.

I use PU on my rabid condi-shatter mesmer, and I really like it. When I’m doing well offensively I find that I miss BD’s ability to secure downs, but if there’s a good shatter mesmer or thief on the other team, I find PU almost indispensable, since those types love to hunt me down enroute to my target.

True, it is almost indispensable on that build. But on mine its….among the already overwhelming amount of defense mechanisms. PU is all defense, so sacrificing some stealth defense, for stab/might constantly (because my shatters are on a reduced cool down) seems logical. Plus it will boost my dps/condi damage. But having a good shatter mesmer, makes things (as you probably already know) very difficult XD

I think with so much condition clear, and the fact that you’re taking BD over PU now, I’d consider trading the torch for a pistol. Celestial amulet still has some nice ferocity, so the pistols “punch” could be useful, as can the stun.

Actually he’s been torn between cele and carrion recently, seems to be favoring carrion.

Actually he’s been torn between cele and carrion recently, seems to be favoring carrion.

yeah that seems a bit more optimized, since with cele you really don’t get that much more survivability on a mesmer, compared to something with much more healing or scaling defenses.
