This would allow for many more choices and flexibility in battles that require movement. It would also allow us as Mesmers to make the choice on whether to use warden for offense or defense or group support.

Any thoughts?

*of course my first and longer version that had examples and more pros/cons didnt submit…so here is a shorter version lols

I like that suggestion, but I would recommend the suggestion forum. Likely some mod is going to move it there anyway.

The warden is imho… the most underpowered phantasm.. while the AoE cc + Swiftness uptime +Retaliation uptime is great… the warden makes focus weak imho..

I switch through all the offhand weapons.. but Torch/focus/sword seems weak compared to pistol..

I feel much stronger with s/p over any other combination..

I feel like I’m forced into GS for dps when I run s/f.. while in s/p I can take staff and feel like I’m only gaining power with combinations like CS+Duelist..

Decrease dps, make it mobile ? :/ I dunno.. (seen 4k full damage from warden)

The Warden is super powerful as an AE projectile killer … or long duration reflect field depending on your spec. The problem is that can’t control where that defensive bubble actually exists on the battlefield which is why I like the original posters idea.

There are plenty of recent threads proving that off hand sword phantasm > iDuelist

iWarden is a good phantasm and since I traited it I find it awesome. Remember these annoying Fire Smugs that pop during the boss fight in Grawl Lava Fractal? iWarden makes dust of them.

Trust me: Mesmer isn’t just about GS and S/P.

Now to the OP: Illusions are bound to their target (one of their worst disadvantage). Making iWarden ground targetable means there is no target needed? It brokes the whole concept behing Illusions.

I’d rather see a global fix about all phantasms ranges : they should move between attack salves w/o getting unnecessarily too close (like iMage does).

I like iWarden as it is. Yall apparently don’t know it’s THE best supportive phantasm for combo fields. In pvp, you can cast it on someone and put a combo field under it. This must be harder than your memorized greatsword/pistol max dmg mind wrack stunlock combo.

Yes the damage is better.. sword phantasm is easy to dodge, and iDuelist is impossible to dodge as it is 2-3 seconds of straight dps which follows invisible targets while also being ranged and not subject to being rapefaced by anyone throwing down any sort of aoe.

That’s the phantasm, now the 4 skill
Block damage is pretty strong I’ll agree but is it better then a ranged CC ?.. Hell no.

I see 0 mesmers playing Sword/sword mid-tier paids.
I don’t know what the pve, pve+ perspective is, nor do I care :/ sorry.

Nice burn Soyboy.. I wish I played Greatsword/sp.. I play staff s/p though..
I’m always up for a duel if you want to teach me something….

Agree with you re: iSwordsman vs iDuelist. MB however is way too easy to dodge vs people that know what they’re doing. The retal uptime alone makes focus IMO a superior OH for sword main. Sword OH blows.

If you are some crazzzzyyy guy like grimms/seven mirror then you run a scepter/sword… Now think of this… you have 5 attacks for of which have the ability to proc some form of illusion… Just a thought on the strengths of a particular weapon set up. I am not great at it but people are able to make it work so there ya have it.

I depend on the 4s of blur more then any other ability …

Maybe as 2nd set ? :/ like.. scepter focus ? I dunno..

I’m pretty content with my current build.. every time I tried to switch abilities or weapons I always just switch back after a day or two.

I’d like to second the sentiment that the warden could really use some sort of manual placement, but I can see how the targetting might be complicated.

Options would be:
1. have it ground targetted and make it lock to the nearest target on either cast/spawn
2. have it ground targetted and always locked to your target
3. have it ground targetted but only permit placement in melee range of your target (don’t know if this is possible with the engine though)

I think I’d prefer 3, or in the best case scenario some sort of toggle for it, but I doubt we’ll realistically see any changes. It’s not like the devs really care for quality of life changes in skills, and there are some that are far, far more broken then this.

Osicat seems to think you need to trait pistol for it to be strong… lol
For being critically acclaimed I find his contributions to be meh..

I don’t actually know how iSwordsman functions in Pve+ but if it’s anything like summoning your iSwordsman into 5 people and watching him get insta’d or summoning it 1v1 and seeing it get dodged… I would say it is the weaker phantasm.

People can care, I don’t though, wasn’t implying that it’s unimportant for others
just that it is for me.

OH sword is garabage for tPVP..
MH sword is godmode for tPVP

Back on topic; if warden could move around just a little bit… or if his attacks were like a daggerstorm it’d be the strongest offhand weapon ever.

So long I know there is no [PVP] in the title of this thread so I suppose PVE players aren’t persona non grata.

OH sword may be garbage in sPVP (and WvW for sure) I still find it better than pistol in PVE. Because mobs in PVE have no brains and won’t dodge.

Builds work differently in different areas, I would probably not take my builds to pve or pve+

Just show a ground target the size of the projectile annihilation/reflect field and select a random target inside that field as the target the warden will follow after the first channel. If there is no target inside the field just have it die after the first channel.
