Does this mean we can no longer portal out allies who are stuck in keep walls after flipping the point? If so, can something be done to prevent them from getting stuck in the first place?
What needs to be fixed is Illusionary Leap clone’s path. Not Portal.

No it just means that the entrance to a portal must be on the opposite side of a wall from the exit in order for players to portal past that wall. Used to be you could put both inside and then jump in from the outside without having to create a portal on the outside.
What jon says is this: When you go to a portal to USE it (F button by default) and if you have an obstacle between YOU and the portal entry you are trying to USE – you won’t be able to use it.
It still works the same apart from that. So if you have a wall between you and a portal entry (it doesnt matter where the portal starts or ends or it does not matter how many obstacles there are on the way.) you wont be able to use it.

Jon just wanted to thank you for all the clarifications and work you guys are putting into Mesmer (my new main now after retiring my Ranger bout 5 weeks ago despite it having a Legendary, reasons for which I’m sure you are well aware balance wise).

You still can.
What you can’t do anymore is drop your portal on the inside of the gate so that it ‘leaks’ outside and portal people in

Wondering this too. I’ve used my portal to get someone unstuck a few times. I do understand the need to kill an exploit though.

I read it wrong the first time around. When I gave it another read when someone pointed it out it made a lot more sense. It did seem a bit extreme to suddenly make portal completely impossible to use out of LoS. The new improvement is good!

This was to fix a bigger issue of portal abuse without nerfing portal into the ground.
The terrain issue is a bug that happens not too often anyway. Besides, how often do you get stuck in terrain and happen to have a mesmer nearby to fix you? Just Waypoint and move on.
Hopefully we will get a /stuck to fix the terrain bugs in a future update.

Small rocks and trees do break the line of sight but aside from people going ‘what if’, I see no problem.

Worst part is, they already patched it once – now the delay is significantly less. It’s still there, which means if spawning the Illusion inside AE fields they’re still dead before the signet can help them, removing one of the primary use cases for the thing.
The strength of heart to face oneself has been made manifest. The persona Carighan has appeared.
The terrain issue is a bug that happens not too often anyway. Besides, how often do you get stuck in terrain and happen to have a mesmer nearby to fix you? Just Waypoint and move on.
As someone whose most played character is a mesmer, I’ve had to rescue someone from terrain exactly twice since head start. In both cases they willingly jumped into a space with no way out. In one of these cases I was able to just walk in the same way and portal them out without having to cheese it.
Anyway, skills shouldn’t act as bug fixes or workarounds. Portal is still an incredibly useful and unique skill and it absolutely doesn’t have to be a way to fix game bugs as well to be this awesome.
I think its good that you clarified what the change to Portal was.

The ‘getting stuck in terrain’ problem happens to any class which uses teleport skills. Why should we have to pay silver to WP out of a situation which should never have happened? At least we could portal people out (idk if we still can, i haven’t tested it yet) saving them time and money.
