Also staff 2 is redundant as most Mesmer utilities are based around mobility, disables, and condition control

These abilities should be either changed or removed entirely so mesmer staff can be brought in line with it’s peers.

Mesmers have among the fewest direct damage utilities of any class. Their weapon skill sets don’t need MORE mobility, they need damage to make up for their lack of options in that regard.

And have yet another useless utility? Definitely not. Our utility skills are land locked as it is with so many skills being must haves. Adding 5 seconds of chaos armor on a 35 second CD would make it a more useless and unused utility skill than mirror images.

Regarding phase retreat, pray tell what mobility skills are you speaking of? Blink? With a 24 second CD? Phase retreat is the strongest thing about staff. Remove it and you might as well remove staff altogether.

Stinky Mesmers! They always have this stupid phase retreat, staff 2 spam and won’t simply stand around long enough to let you kill them. Then, when you finally get one on cool down, they have this stupid chaos shield that randomly buffs them while applying random condi spam – what were the devs thinking? (this satire was brought to you by the letter C, the number 2 and the Coalition for the elimination Mesmer nerf speech).

Any mesmer using staff on a regular will disagree with you on this..
Me included. I don’t know what profession you usually play
and I know mesmer mechanics can be daunting at times, BUT,
invest enough time in studying/practising skill/trait combos and
the mighty purple reign will follow..! Need to hit that “zone”..

And regarding the “satire” of Soothsayer:
Remember when Phase Retreat actually was near spammable?!

Chaotic Dampening vs. the other 2 traits are another discussion…

“NEAR spammable” – enough said. Just pointing out Mesmer doesn’t need another nerf and the constant complaining about Mesmer “this” or Mesmer “that,” condi spam Mesmer, etc. etc. is getting old.

Phase Retreat is an amazing skill and for you to ask for it to be completely changed shows a lot about your GW2 Mesmer IQ.

Phase retreat is one of the main reason I use staff. So no.
Now I agree that staff lacks damaging skills. In my rework (signature) I suggested:

  • change skill 3 to a “ring of fire” type skill but applying confusion; generate a phantasm doing chaos storm without the damage
  • change skill 5 to a pulsing AOE damage and torment + some support

it is overall a buff of staff on the AOE+condi side (the current damage comes mostly from the phantasm and is power-only and single target which is completely against what the rest of the staff provides). But despite already being used, I think the staff can tolerate a buff.

Good god, if you touch phase retreat there will be riots on here – even more than when they “accidently” changed Distortion into an evade… and I will be really kittened off.

Phase Retreat makes staff – without it staff is unbelievably weak.

Also where is the mobility? I count 4 skills:
- Phase Retreat
- iLeap
- Blink
- Portal

And F5 if you consider wasting that for mobility…

Two of those require using MH sword and staff. The other two require slotting both utilities. So where is this complaint about “too much mobility” coming from.

Last I checked, the whole survival of mesmer is based on avoiding damage through kiting (mobility) and evading/blocking. You simply cannot facetank damage without using active defensive evades/blocks or kiting skills.
