I’ve always loved mes, yet I hated playing it in WvW since it had pretty crappy AoE abilities… Have anyone started theorycrafting a build for large scale WvW for Chrono and would care to share it?
Was thinking about running Sw/sh+staff, not sure though… Haven’t played mes in so long

Null field + Gravity well might do something.
But you’re probably still more effective as a backline assassin.
I tried a zerker Sw/Sh & Staff Wells build in the last beta. At that time, I don’t think it would replace Necro.

You can do that without chrono too… Unfortunately, people can see the torch explosions even if you’re in stealth, so you’ll only succeed at that if the enemy team is blind.
At any rate, while wells certainly still felt rather clunky and were difficult to get the full effects out of, they’re leaps and bounds better than anything else we’ve ever had, so there is that…
Bump. Has anyone tried well/glamour chrono in large scale WvW? Seems like it could make for an awesome build
I tried blink + 2 wells on reset day yesterday, I posted my concerns on another thread but long story short, I felt like the end of well effect (like alacrity) is a bit unreliable and you kinda have to drop and hope it does the intended effect (like well of recall, 3s to get an aoe chilled? Ele chill field is instant).
Gravity well radius seems a bit small for an elite.
Healing well, again 3 seconds to give allies a heal, is too long of a time (Even as a self heal).
All in all, I don’t see why any organized group would prefer a mesmer well bomb, to a necro well bomb which does more dmg and has more immediate effects. And they can follow up with death shroud + staff marks, we go back to lacking AoE when wells are on cooldown.
It’s just like the rest of our spells, a lot of purple going around, not a lot accomplished.
The grandmaster traits also seem kinda useless for WvW big fights. Lost time (build charges on crit, then slow a target) should be changed to affect multiple targets near the initial target

The point is to do some other then portal / veil bot. While mesmers do have some nice applicable skills, they are on far too long CDs or their functions are far better outdone by GWEN meta for mesmers to be of any use.
So the OP was asking if Chrono will change that.
Some fights last night during reset using CI/DE/ Slow traits and Calamity/Gravity. I plan to make a montage later so these clips are unedited (the fights are usually over by 3/4 of the videos).
. I really like the staff when running chrono-wells. The iWarlock and phaseRetreat provide easy ways to get shatter fodder to allow for a good cSplit-Gravity well combo. I mostly combo’d Gravity well Chaos storm during cSplit; I found Calamity’s cast time to be too long to cast after Gravity during cSplit.
I really like the shield in this sort of build. I’ve crit squishies for ~4.5k (2.2k x2) with both hits of the shield. There is however a huge tendency to get greedy in getting a perfect shield wave off on the entire zerg. I’m running full zerk with ~3k power w/o might w/ bloodlust stack so trying to get my shield wave to hit the entire enemy zerg killed me several times last night.
I’ve been theroycrafting for a long time, but yesterday was my first day of testing. Chronomancer adds some really nice things.
I still think the best way is to focus on damage. Well of Calamity can do insane damage when damage optimization.
Gravity Well pulls are really good and it still does some damage.
Chronophantasma can bump quite a lot the damage if one controls iZerker rotation and shatter it, plus Protected Phantasms help to make this more reliable.
Continuum Split could be insane when one is able to master it.
And alacrity helps to have everything earlier, so you end up having more damage.

That looks pretty good, but is there a condi variant ? Or rather, how does it perform with condi instead of power and sword ? Kinda sick and tired of playing same ol’ power builds since been playing sword + focus for just wayyyyyyyyyyyy tooooooo long.

I don’t think it would work quite as well with condi. I’m not generating many clones that actually reach their targets. The wells don’t have any damage condi’s either. I don’t believe Mistrust is viable on zerg v zerg fights with this build because you aim to keep people immob’d in your wells while you burst them.

I’m sort of struggling with Chrono in WvW large-scale, for similar reasons as many other folks.
Illusions not reaching their targets feels even worse for some reason. Super speed on shatter helps a little, but not enough to make the playstyle worth it. The end result is that Chronophantasma, quickness-on-shatter, and IR are pretty much useless in group fights.
I still feel pigeonholed in to portal and veil duty, leaving Blink as my other utility and meaning I can rarely run with a well. Maybe a bigger mesmer population would help… but it means I’m not really getting the most out of the elite spec.
When I have been able to run it, I really enjoy the interrupt builds though. Quickness-on-shatter, when it works, gets my daze mantra ready FAST. The quickness/stun shield skill is SO satisfying when it lands correctly. Gravity Well is fantastic- I’m missing the float but still liking the skill.

Seems like Tides of Time being able to give raid-wide quickness could add to Portal/Veil. Doesn’t solve the core problem, but at least that’s 3 useful skills instead of 2.
