Q:
Chronomancer: power or condi?
A:
I played Chrono/Power first BWE and Chrono/Condie second BWE, and I can say I had a ton of fun playing either. Both are really solid, but Chrono/Condie of course can be a lot more tanky in nature.
This BWE I played mostly Chrono/Ill/Insp in rabid amulet with Scavenger Runes and Sigils of Leeching. I was a tough nut to crack, that’s all I can say. As I complained elsewhere, Condie damage output in group fights is still a big issue, especially since both Torment and Confusion have innate counters that halve damage without the need to cleanse. It’s not terrible, but in most cases simply can’t measure up to power/shatter.
If they fixed our Torch Burns, we’d be in a really good spot even with the gutting of MtD. The Prestige needs to give 3 stacks of 3s Burning, period. Anything less is a huge nerf to this ability as compared to it’s performance in the past 2 years!
The Torch Phantasm would probably be ok with 2 stacks of 5s Burning, or better yet 3 stacks of 3s. How Anet figured that 4 stacks of Confusion for 4 (?) seconds should equal to 1 stack for 5s of the new Burn is beyond me. The math must have escaped them.
Oh well, it’s still a fun build and most of the time it’s a pretty solid combination of survivability & damage output.
It’s like Dueling is now: goes with everything.

I’m specifically trying to make a hybrid chrono (probably 70 – 30 damage from condis in a wvw roamer) and maybe more like (60 – 40 condi in pvp).
But the general consensus was that the build I was trying wasn’t very good – so we’ll have to see
I would say in PvP 1v1 condi mes have an advantage over a power mes. In group fights I find power mes are much better than condi mes. So chrono would just add to that.
I would lean slightly towards power simply because with the removal of the Dueling on-crit-procs for bleed and confusion, the ability to apply conditions via wells is gone. But that’s not a far lean, since you don’t need to use the wells at all.
Chronomancer is a very good option for both ways to deal damage. The only thing is with condi builds you’re more limited when choosing traits, since Slow condition negates the effect of confusion, the extra critical chance is less effective, and Chronophantasma has less effect with phantasms not doing the same damage as power ones.
Personally I’ll take it for both condi shatter roaming and power zerg builds.

Both.
In wvw as a power build you can take Chrono, Melandru runes and poultry soup for pretty kitten good passive resistance to cc conditions, as well as all other conditions while maintaining 25% runspeed and high damage through gear.
I have a full set of Zerker gear, and a full set of Condi gear – so I just picked up one Zerker Shield and one Dire Shield to cover both. :P
