Clone summon delay on ileap...
After three years of iLeap being unreliable, I think it’s time to scrap the idea and just give Mesmers a normal Immobilising Leap that conjures a Clone on landing. There’s absolutely no reason not to Swap immediately given that with MH Sword you’d be doing kitten-all at range.
At one point in beta we had exactly what Embolism said. The Mesmer performed a Leap and left a clone behind as he did. the clone then followed after. One of my favorite tricks was to leap at the enemy then roll to their other side. Attack them, and then use swap to dodge their attempted counter stroke by swapping to the clone that was bow behind them.
However, I don’t mind this iteration of the skill. The range just needs to be longer since the clone summoning effect can be dodged. If the range wasn’t so short then their original purpose for adding in the clone delay wouldn’t be necessary.

There used to be strategy and thought behind when you would swap, back when you could swap even once the clone got killed. Strategy and thought apparently isn’t conducive to game balance, so it got nerfed.

I agree.. just go with a teleport + immob & some damage. The idea was cool but unfortunatly, after 3 years of trying, lets just keep it simple.
Actually I like the mechanics of ileap and swap as they are – I like chasing enemies up and down ledges in forest, foefire, temple, clocktower and so on.
It’s even fun to do below mid in skyhammer and khylo – with autotargeting on (i have a weird control scheme that works with it) you can spawn the ileap clone while you’re below the point, and then swap straight up surprising anyone who’s running around point.
I would like it to stay with a ranged clone summon, because it allows for a lot of fun play and mindgames with ledges. I’d just like to see the clone spawn faster, even if there is a 0.5s icd then for swap, so I can at least perform another action immediately on casting rather than running the risk of accidently cancelling the clone spawn and ruining the whole skill.
The swap is a stunbreak and can be used to undo a obv incoming cc. Therefore I’d rather like to let us swap immediately after the spawn of the clone, instead of having to wait for like a whole sec.

Just pm me for my advice! Always eager to help!”

It’s no use if you can’t swap at all because the clone took too long to summon in the first place, or didn’t spawn because you dodged or something too soon when casting ileap/
Of course I’d rather leave swap alone, so ignore my suggestion on that – I just would like to see this clone summon delay removed so it spawns more quickly like it used to before the june patch.

The reason to now swap is to bait a dodge. You should NOT always swap instantly. That said, the delay is just annoying and doesn’t help at all.
^ Usually only characer that i play on
I really dislike the way iLeap works now… and I think they’ve already proven they’re incapable of making it functional AND ‘balanced’. I’d perfer it to be changed to a real leap, similar to our spear.
Skill part 1- Leap forward doing some dmg and immobilize your target.
Skill part 2- Teleport back to the location you leaped from leaving a clone behind.
I think that would have really fun strategic value thats comparable to our current leap. For instance, we could leap down from a ledge→ burst→ teleport back up. We’d have an out-of-combat mobility skill that doesnt require hitting our 180 spin button every 10 seconds, also. Speaking of staff, we’d still have phase retreat and blink for getting up ledges, so (personally) I wouldnt be bothered by the loss of the super unreliable/clunky functionality of the current sword leap.
The only downsides of this change for me-
1) I’d never be able to unequip my sword again.
2) I’d need to start crafting Bolt.
