Could we possibly let clones benefit from the protected phantasms trait as well? When I went to the Silverwastes, I found that when I summoned a clone, they would rush headlong into the amber troll and die, I didn’t even have time to shatter them.

At the moment, they die far too quickly to actually do anything with in some AoE heavy boss fights, and don’t allow the opportunity for you to do anything at all with them.

Personally, I’d like to see Persisting Images and Protected Phantasms merged into the same Adept trait and have all its benefits apply to Clones as well.

In other words, I agree.

Wouldn’t be a problem if illusions were immune to aoe unless directly targeted, which is what many of us are asking for.

Just like with silverwastes, try illusions inh WvW teamfights or dungeons.

You shouldn’t need to go into a specific traitline just so your illusions can function as advertised.

And really, clones themselves don’t even do anything for the mesmer besides being shatter fodder after the removal of on clone death traits, so there’s no reason whatsoever to keep them so weak and trivial.

I don’t think it makes “as much sense” to protect clones than to protect phantasm. Clones are really not meant to live long because they usually have little role (sure, staff clones are nice but except for these?) and can be generated easily. We don’t want to boost shatter builds where killing clone is the main counterplay.
So I’m all for harder to kill phantasm but easier to kill clones.

I think if you go into Inspiration sacrificing offensive power for personal survivability, letting you trait for more reliable Phantasms and Shatters makes sense.

except that mesmers only need domination and dueling for the offensive power. Then people usually use chaos (PU) or sometimes illusion to get the survivability. So they would not trade anything they haven’t already traded but would get a potentially strong benefit (although to a large extent, I don’t think protection on a clone with 2000HP will extend his life much…)

I assumed that when I mentioned the Silverwastes and bosses, I meant in PvE. If you think shatter builds in are overpowered in PvE, please share your build, I’d love to use it, I’ve been trying to make it work for ages.

It’ll extend their life by a couple of seconds. That’s enough time to summon a third clone and shatter it. On certain bosses, if you try to do that, the very instant that you summon your first clone, it’ll die to AoE.
