So we get a shield with cool skills… so what the hell do we put in MH? A ranged condition weapon or a melee direct damage weapon?

I’m not really fond of hugging people in melee with my light armor (and mostly zerker gear), and i like some other optoin as conditions as my ONLY ranged option for MH…

We already have so many OH options:
-Sword (Direct damage/ Melee)
-Pistol (Direct damage/ Ranged)
-Focus (Direct damage/ ranged (sort of))
-Torch (Condi damage/ Ranged)

Why on earth did we get kittening FIFTH OH-weapon with only 2 MH-weapons? Where is my frigg’n ranged direct damage MH-weapon! Devs even playing Mesmer?

Well, the quickness boost could be nice for the slow and sluggish scepter.
Even though I like a shield offhand, I still feel your frustration.
We really do lack mainhand weapons and could use one VERY SOON.

Sword is the meta weapon, best AA damage, only weapon with cleave, nice evade on #2, a gap closer on 3 and passive boon removal.

Would have preferred another mainhand though; like a pistol. Every other class seems to be getting another 2hnd weapon yet Mesmer only an offhand when we already had a ton of them to begin with.

I figured the answer to that a long time ago.

You can put anything in the main hand since the shield goes in the backpack.

I’m not minding how it looks like Scepter as a potential mid-ranged condition weapon in wvw. Still have to see what the second skill ends up being, of course.

But the shield looks like it pairs well with Mistrust (as long as that stun-wave can hit a few juicy targets!) and the quickness will definitely help diminish the long wind-up of Confusion Images.

Strange, because the thing that really stood out about the Chronomancer was it’s interesting support abilities:

“Alacrity functions as the inverse of chill by speeding up skill recharges rather than slowing them down. Chronomancy is the only specialization allowed access to this powerful effect, and chronomancers can share alacrity with allies in limited situations, making them an incredibly powerful ally to have in any party.”

“Well Of Precognition will make allies’s skill become unblockable and cause them to evade attacks for a short duration after the well ends.”

“Chronomancer using the new weapon shield will gain access to Tides of Time, a skill that release a wall of energy moving forth. It will stop projectiles and freeze foes in time (stun) if it passes through them. Allies hit by it will gain quickness. When the wall reaches its maximum distance, it will turn around and go back, hitting everything in its path again.”

Really, what more could you ask for?

This is mesmer. Dont play like a warrior and youll be fine. Further to max your shatter damage you need to be dodging in and out of melee range anyway.

Wouldn’t one use sword because of the teleport? I can think of a number of tricks that use teleportation and the shield wall positioning effect.

Erhmm, this is kind off the whole point of my post :

I dont want to be in melee range… I want to do direct damage from range.

And i also dont want to be forced in close range schatter builds. This profession has so much other (non shatter reliant) potetial then just that… Condition clone spam build… Power phantasm build… Etc… Dont push me to close range with a sword to blow myself up along with my trusty Clones.

Giving us for example a ranged direct damage pistol, gives us so much more more pvp build variaty, that this profession could really use…

I get what youre saying and I know I sound like a troll but all your complaints are solved by using a warrior or a ranger.

If you want to range as a mesmer we have a greatsword and an offhand pistol that goes well with phantasm builds.

I think what you really want to say is ‘im sad because i didntget a main hand pistol’ which is fair enough. But why dont we just make 1 topic for everyone to complain about not getting a pistol, instead of ten.

Pointsless reply… i dont want to be those classes… Mesmer has 1 good 2H Direct ranged weapon (GS) and 1 good 2H ranged condi weapon (Staff). They need to fill a ranged MH direct damage slot. That has nothing to do with >insert other class here<, because mesmer CAN perform a ranged direct damage roles, and it should be able to because of light armor. I just think its poor/lazy design that this is only enabled through 2H weapons.
Now they add a new OH wich we already have enough options for.

If you want to range as a mesmer we have a greatsword and an offhand pistol that goes well with phantasm builds.

A ranged 1 handed weapon would be cool and useful and fun. Your argument is about necessity. Is the need for ranged direct damage weapon fulfilled on mesmer? Yes.

My argument about other classes already fulfilling the role that you want your mesmer to play is not pointless. If mesmer could do everything then there would be no need for other classes.

Sword pistol is an effective weapon set because offhand pistol can unload a ton of bleed stacks, damage, and in the future will apply confusion and even more bleed stacks. And due to our light armour sword fulfils a defensive role, granting us invulnerability and the ability to trick our opponents with the sword swap skill if we find ourselves in melee range.

If we do get a specialization eventually that utilizes a mainhand pistol, and i think we will, most of our damage will still be coming from phantasms and shatters because thats what we do, that is mesmer. Therefore ofhand pistol will still be king.

short version, they liked the concept of a clock shield.

but keep in mind chronomancer isnt shield centered, just use the weapons you always used,

id love a new mainhand, but you seem like you would be just as disapointed if it was a melee weapon.

GS is your direct dmg mainhand option btw

Why I want a (mid-)range 1 handed weapon for main-hand?

If you want to take 2 different off-hands (and we have really great off-hands), then:

Power builds:
You will take sword as it’s great and.. unless you decide to use the same 3 skills with the same recharges in the second weapon set, your only choice is Scepter.
While scepter is not THAT bad for power builds, AA is still slow, #2 is "just" a one-hit block (your torment will do nothing as your power-build will have almost zero condi dmg) and only your #3 has some better uses (you can bait dodge with it, and tbh it can do decent dmg with 5 ticks to trigger sigils).

Condi builds:
You will take scepter as it’s great and.. you will probably take another scepter or scrap the idea and take Staff, as thou sword can help you with #2’s invul and #3’s leap/immob to shatter if condi-shatter.. I think that you need 2 REALLY good off-hands to use sword+ off-hand instead of Staff.
You can probably make a build which has everything to make good use of the sword mainhand in a condi-build, but dunno how good that can be besides having fun with it (you can have fun with a lot of mediocre builds).

So as it stands now, we get another (probably) great off-hand while our main-hand weapons are really limited. I’ll continue to use scepter in power-builds, probably I’ll use shield as it seems interesting for lockdown builds, but I still believe that a good balanced hybrid (mid-)range one handed mainhand would be better.

You can probably make a build which has everything to make good use of the sword mainhand in a condi-build, but dunno how good that can be besides having fun with it (you can have fun with a lot of mediocre builds).

In a condi shatter build, sword mainhand will be better than ever, because of the now baseline IP that works so well with the immob and teleport of the sword #3 skill. The #2 skill is also great for the invulnerability it provides.

Too bad we won’t see any new MH weapons for Chronomancers, because new weapons will be always connected to Elite-specialisations.

I’d love to see a Ranged MH Dagger or a Melee MH Pistol. Would be a nice twist to these weapons.

Sword could enjoy this.
Shield CC … Illusionary Leap … Swap (Immobilize) … Shield CC hits target again since it returns to you.

As someone else stated in another thread, scepter could enjoy the quickness in order to get off confusing images in a more “reasonable” amount of time … or the AA chain.
