Hammer Mesmer: similar to GS, an originally melee weapon working as a ranged weapon.

Skill 1: Smash your hammer to fix one random mesmer bug.

Skill 1: Hammerball.

  • 1) Use your hammer to launch at your foe a ball of chaos energy, which bounces up to 2 times between foes and causes damage and confusion.
  • 2) Send one more bouncing ball of chaos energy which causes damage and chill.
  • 3) Send a larger ball of chaos energy which explodes for AoE damage in 240 radius with increased damage per each target for each foe present in this range (limit of 5 targets).
  • 30% chance of projectile finisher.

Skill 2: Chaosshift.

  • Smash the ground with the hammer at current location, leaving behind a clone and a ring of chaos energy uncrossable to foes for a short time while teleporting to target location.
  • Blast finisher.
  • No combo field type.

Skill 3: Phantasmal Hammerknight.

  • Summon a Phantasm which drops on foe from above, causing AoE damage, vulnerability and daze.
  • Affects up to 5 targets in a small radius.
  • Phantasm is rooted until its skill is recharged, then it gives a visual cue and repeats the drop attack.

Skill 4: Triwhirl.

  • 1) Summon 3 stationery whirling illusionary hammers in a large triangle form around you, which last for 10 seconds each but knockback touching foes at a cost of 1 second in duration.
  • Allies in the triangle receive protection boon. If one of the hammers vanishes, the triangle effect is gone.
  • 2) Counter by exploding hammers, dealing AoE damage and ripping stability and swiftness. 20% chance of blast finisher per hammer.

Skill 5: Illusionary Fortress.

  • 33% reduced movement speed while casting.
  • Block up to 5 attacks or projectiles while casting.
  • First 2 blocked attacks cause cripple on attacker.
  • Next 2 blocked attacks cause weakness.
  • Last blocked attack rips stability off nearby foes, launches them (limit of 5 targets) and grants 2 seconds of distortion.

Your weapon has three knockdown/knockback effects. Oh and also strips stability with priority. That’s crazy right there.

Look at our other weapon sets. GS has 1 knockback, Staff has chaos storm with chance of daze procs, then for 1h weapons, pistol provides a 3s ranged stun, focus a pull, and unless you’re running torch you’ll have 1 hard CC effect on each weapon rotation.

I know it’s a Hammer, and let’s smack people around with it, but that’s a hell of a lot of Hard CC for a Mesmer. Unlike warriors our hard CC and interrupt potential can mean devastating things for our enemies.

It also looks like Asthetical vomit.

So what might I do? Buton’s top 5 crazy off the top of his head Mesmer Hammer ideas!

Skill 1: 1 spam

  • You hit the target over and over with 1 spam. Max targets 5 (honestly, 1 spam is 1 spam)

Skill 2: Balancing act

  • Mesmer begins balancing the hammer on the palm of his hand as he runs around. 3s channel. If struck the hammer falls, damaging the victim and producing a clone.

Skill 3: Hammer or Broomstick?

  • Mesmer jumps forward, swinging the hammer between his legs and riding it like a witches broomstick into his enemy. Something like rush. 900 range. Tracks.

Skill 4: Phantasmal Patty Maker

  • Let’s use your hammer phantasm idea where a hammer weilding phantasm falls heavily from the sky and smashes into the target from above. 5 target nasty AoE damage. Maybe 6s chill. Phantasm stays rooted until his next attack cycle where he zips up into the stratosphere again and repeats.

Skill 5: Hammer Time!
Mesmer teleports to target area, gaining 3s Protection, landing a 1s daze. Max targets 5. Range 400.

There. That looks better.

As for CC – why not? Hey, warriors got CC and heavy armour and large HP pool, thieves have spammable everything and stealth, heck, even rangers got several CCs on one weapon. Plus, mesmers are about counterplay, and 2/3 CCs here have conditions: don’t trigger it and it won’t happen.

But well, constant daze on the phantasm might be too much. I can agree on a 33% chance, or like, daze if 3 or more targets were hit, or daze if the target is crippled or chilled.

It’s mostly about what happens when a Mesmer interrupts you, more than just the ability to interrupt. Take perplexity runes for example. A single effect on a rune set turned warriors, thieves, and engies into condi wrecking nightmares overnight. Mesmers already have the ability to lock down an enemy indefinitely. 3 hard CC effects on hammer is just a crazy amount for Mesmer. I could see the telegraph effects now, they’d end up being twice as long as warriors (telegraping being the justification for warriors spamfest as it is, which people still currecntly find rediculously OP for the damage they dish out).

It’s cool if you want it, I just think its a bit of an unrealistic request.

lemme see if i can break down what you wanted from the OP..

1. Winds of Chaos (staff 1) but with less RNG more damage and an AoE

2. Guardians Hammer5 + Guardian/thief teleport utility skills all in one

3. Phantasmal Ele Comet (aoe + daze + vuln)

4. Same as 2 but minus a teleport and add another blast finisher and AoE

5. Please see Guardian Elite skill “Renewal of Focus”

As “interesting” as the GS inversion from QCC to LDC is.. Hammer doesn’t need to follow suit. Mesmer’s have enough ranged as it is..

Hammer -

1. Basic Melee AA chain, probably apply weakness for 1 or 1.5s at the end.

2. Swing your hammer again – if you connect you teleport somewhere around your foe (nearby only)

3. Hammer swing or channel – Pulse an AoE dealing some damage and transfer condition(s) from yourself to foe’s struck.

4. Arbitrary Phantasm Summon – Maybe something that hits with Imob or a daze.

5. add a Leap or Retreat Skill here to open up a bit more movement to keep it in line with other mesmer weapons.

We’ve given new and interesting purposes to current weapons. One of these weapons is the hammer, which you may think of as slow and physical. That’s not how the revenant uses it! Revenants use their powers to enhance the hammer in order to use it as a ranged weapon. That’s right—you’ll use these unique powers from the Mists to throw a magical hammer at foes, create massive zones of destruction, and preemptively control your foe.

“Slam the ground with your hammer, creating a cascading eruption of energy.”

This skill uses new tech that you’ll start seeing in many areas of our new specializations as well. It creates a cascading attack that starts at your character and extends forward over time. This specific skill’s damage increases with distance. This allows us to create very impactful attacks that have a lot more play to them for both yourself and the foes you use it against.

Field of the Mists

“Create a field from the Mists that blocks incoming projectiles in front of you.”

Again, this is brand-new, shiny tech. This skill creates a directional wall in front of your character, blocking incoming projectiles. Even better, it follows your character! While it’s active, the wall will always be in front of your character, moving around with you to protect you from those pesky rangers (unless they flank you).

Vengeful Hammers

“Invoke hammers to circle around you, damaging foes.”

I said there’d be frightening battle presence, and what does that better than hammers flying around your character? This is another upkeep skill. While it’s active, you have dwarven hammers spinning around your character and following your movements. They’re great for when you need to impose that extra pressure on your enemies.

HAMMER: Drop the Hammer – This one is a ground targeted AOE knockdown. You target a large area, swing your hammer, and then a giant Mist hammer comes swirling out of the nether knocks everyone in that area down. It’s only got a 15 second cooldown for now, but a higher Energy cost… still, imagine this in WvW?

AXE: Frigid Blitz – This allows the player to hurl an ice axe through the air, chilling everyone (slowing them), and when it reaches the actual highlighted target you teleport to him and do a melee spinning attack that ends up behind the enemy, chilling him too. A key thing Jon noted is that you can use one Axe skill mentioned in the blog to pull together a clump of enemies, and then use this to go through them all and wind up at the rear-most one.
