Let me preface to all the Mesmer fans, that this is focus SOLEY on raid experiences with the class. I do not fathom the complexities of this class in PvP or WvW kittentering play is important in those game modes, while NON-EXISTENT in the raid environment.

So out of utter boredom lately, I decided to create a duplicate Mesmer (and completed chronomancer) for lulz and memes. Although my previous Mesmer is a full-time Chronomancer, I wanted to take a dab at Condi Mesmer as it offers up some unique advantages on certain encounters. In these encounters, I was consistently in the top end DPS range and provided, decent to great, utility for the group.

Although, That’s a very glowing review of what Condi Mesmer can do. If the fight is not Cairn or Matthius, It’s nearly not worth running in any other encounter. Let’s list some of the issues.

Issues
-Shattering Phantasms destroys all your DPS (can’t even use unique class mechanic)
-Signet build Condi Mesmer (for even decent DPS, you need 4 signets, don’t pop 2 of 4)
-Almost all CC is baked into Moa Signet, and has an 180 sec CD
-Scepter as a weapon does nearly no damage (seems like 80+% of your damage is pistol phantasms)

Potential group utility
-Stability mantra
-Feedback

This seems Okay-ish but let’s look at another class. Let’s compare it to say, Condi Ranger. These are considerations picking a class that is firmly in the DPS spot in raids.

-Break bar. Ranger has 2 pets, short bow 5, and plenty of soft CC. Mesmer has Daze mantra, and Moa signit on 180 cd.

-Boon upkeep. “We heal as one” ROUTINELY pings you to 25 might and other stray boons, Mesmer gets SOI?? Oh wait, that was nerfed.

-Burst potential. Ranger takes 3 traps, Bonfire Quick drawn, and entangle. Mesmer has only 2 pistol phantasms and spent his heal skill to get it.

-Top end DPS. Ranger can do 50% more DPS in perfect world scenarios. Mesmers look pretty?

Now What flummoxes me more about this class. Its elite specialization doesn’t exactly excite me for anything other than being a boon bot. I’m sorry for this rant, But it’s a shame that class is so disjointed to me personally. Sure an Elite spec can change things, but we’re months away from it, and small buffs would at least encourage more class/build diversity.
