Condi Shatter - viable with Travelers?
There are really no builds for Mesmer that absolutely require a specific set of runes. The disclaimer is simply that it’ll be somewhere between somewhat and significantly worse when using traveler runes.
Personally I run travelers in every game mode. I like not having to worry about swiftness, I like not having to use focus for swiftness. I use it with condi and power shatter. Is it the best for condi shatter? NO but I hate running slow so I use it anyways.
yes you can use them
The difference is trivial stat wise. The only option is what you want as a 6th bonus. I have tried a lot of runes. I liked nightmare since the fear caused the player to move but the lack of movement speed forces me back to travelers all the time.
Go crazy and use a perplexity runes/ focus combo. Plenty of speed, extra condition damage, and bonus points for originality!
I’ve been roaming with a MtD build since the trait was introduced. At first I used the Tormenting runes on my ascended dire set, and kept swapping between that and a set with Traveler. I couldn’t decide between the two, because the Tormenting set killed opponents noticeably faster, but the Traveler made roaming much easier. After the feature patch this fall, I’ve moved entirely to Traveler, as the difference is now more or less negligible in terms of damage. For a roamer, the mobility is huge. If you’re not wearing Traveler and you’re in combat, trying to run away is like wading through quicksand.

The condi shatter build doesn’t lack damage to make these runes a good option, and speed is one of the mesmer weakness.
I find traveler, speed or focus+rune that gives +%swiftness mandatory for any roaming build, not just condi shatter. Bringing something else might make you a little better in duels or outnumbered fights, but just that, and the speed you lose can really mean being chased and killed, not having time to take that camp before the tick is over, not being able to defend any structure…
