+Condition Damage/ 40% Burn Duration / Quickness below 20% HP / AoE Burn on Heal (10s CD)
Quite simply, these runes rock! I know they’ve been all the rage with Engineer recently, but I was wondering if anyone had been theorycrafting with these runes.
BUT.. WE DON’T HAVE THAT MUCH BURN APPLICATION!
That’s part of the beauty of it. The torch and staff clones are our only way to apply burns, but since this rune also adds an AoE burn on heal, it should make burning a noticeable added condition ontop of Torment/Poison(Doom Sigils)/ Bleeding, ect.
I don’t play condition Mesmer often myself, but has anyone else tried these?
Yeah these are all the rage with the new patch, especially for professions who can churn out the burn. Unfortunately mesmer is not among the elite in that area, but I recall some builds people have posted in the past to maximize condition/burn duration. This gets the most out of our (and our clones) burn ticks, and therein lies the problem …
Originally our clones did not inherit our condition duration. Anet ninja fixed this problem in a patch months ago but in a later patch the problem arose again. I’ve not tested this since the new patch but intend to. Bottom line is that if clones do not inherit our condition/burn duration, using balthazar runes isn’t probably going to fare well.
Side note: I love the quickness on 20% health on this set and orrian. I even set out to theory-craft a quickness build a few months back using them with signets of rage, furious interruption and time warp just to see what would be possible. Then in testing I found both balth and orrian runes only proc’d the quickness at 10% health (not the advertised 20%). I have yet to validate that bug was fixed but will probably try to do that and validate the clone condi duration this week.
I didn’t play a full condition mesmer, but for a PU condition build you could use Superior Rune of the Guardian.

The runes doesn’t seem to have a CD on the fire, so each time you block you put fire.
This will give you a more consistent way to apply fire.
I’m pretty sure Pyro uses that set on his Zergmower build. The 6/6, plus Mimic’s functionality/Aegis procs … nasty stuff, there. I haven’t made a gear set for Balth use on my Mesmer yet, but I’m thinking heavy Rampager hybrid. Get the Burns, and a crapload of Bleed on folks.
yes. i found its very effective with mantra heal or mirror heal depending what you fighting of course. although it works just fine in turns of uptime with either feast so nothing to focus on in terms of heal choice.
In SoloQ I’m trying a 0/6/6/2/0 clone death / mantra spam build with Balthazar runes, and it seems to do alright. Very durable with tonnes of condi removal (I use MoR too).
In WvW you can always spam the tonic every 10 seconds… :x
When they showed the rune during the Ready Up I tinkered with a Mantra condition bunker with Restorative Mantras (at least x/x/4/4/x). I didn’t have any chance to test it yet, though, because I was stuck in the countryside during the holidays. But as Chaos said, the burn proc should be pretty awesome with MoR. Not sure on which other traits to pick. I don’t want to use on death traits since I still expect them to be nerfed. Phantasms don’t work that well with conditions. So I might as well put in some interrupt flavour.
Pyro used Guardian runes as far as I remember.
Unfortunately on heal runes don’t work with MoR except on the initial charge. They really should make them work on expending it and just put an ICD on them to make sure it isn’t abused.

It worked for Centaur runes in the past. Maybe you just forgot about the cooldown on the runes? It should still work every 10s and that is why MoR is best.
I run guardian in zergs/commanding. I’ve also used it plenty during PU roaming. With staff and a burn focus id say its meh, but without the staff side the runes and burns are solid.

It was just an experiment to beat someone only using staff clones and burn procs. It’s pretty weak in the meta.

I am melting faces atm with 10-20-30-10 105% burn uptime (2 sec burn on staff auto) and torrent X2 poison x 2.

So I just posted my version of Baltazar rune build, it have wery high burn dmg, ~870 / tick and I stack up to 16 sec on targets, it also use both poison and torment 100% uptime. It also have the condition dmg more on demand compared to traditional PU builds who often need your enemy to fight back to take dmg.

Also, how do you find yourself without speed buff? Have you tried sigil of speed? do you think it could work?

I use staff on low cd and 1200y blink, with focus in bag it’s enought to not die and get away. Class need badly a speed buff thu not tied to a servant runeset or to focus. We need a trait or utility"

I had my doubts but Osi you proved me wrong. The 10s internal cooldown is so short and works perfectly (as you have demostrated in your build vid) with using mantra heals. The thing about that is, the rune procs the #6 AoE burn on both the mantra charge and each separate power return heal.
So I did a bit of additional testing (in the mists) with clones and burn/condi duration for FWIW.
As good as the runes are now for most classes (including mesmers it seems), if illusionary elasticity worked with our clones, so so nasty.
Since Torment Sigils don’t exist in tPvP, what sigils do you suggest would be a good replacement?
Energy, I would say. In tpvp, with close quarter fighting on points, more doges mean more clones and thus more damage

The best use I could find for Dueling XII (after the change) was for power scepter, it has good synergy with something like Magic Bullet and you can land a lot more Confusing Images ticks that you otherwise wouldn’t. Works even better with the new Sigil of Rage too.
Yeah I said signet of rage there but meant sigil. The buffed sigil is really nice now, much more viable to use than before. Might be nice to use in a balthazar rune build that uses mantras (like Osi’s new one) to help charge them more quickly. Ofc it’s RnG and you can’t time it well, but would be interesting to mess with nonetheless.
