If the dueling trait line is about critical hits with weapons, why is a trait involving critical hits with phantasms there? Wouldn’t it make sense to have it in the illusions line since that deals with phantasms? Or am I missing something from the current version of the upcoming trait changes?

I don’t think you are the only one confused about phantasmal fury placement. There’s nothing else for phantasms in this trait line (Well, maybe Sword, Harmonious Mantra ferocity stacking and the minor traits of condi on hit). Worst, there’s DE and we know it doesn’t work well with a phantasm build.

So basically picking Phantasmal Fury – which has always been in that slot – only has synergy with two out of three Minor traits and while not specifically synergizing still works perfectly well with both, two out of three Master Major traits and two out three Grandmaster Major traits. Madness.

Phantasmal Fury is awesome for Duelists and Wardens. Even power builds benefit from the insane amount of Bleeds it can produce and we now get Confusion ontop of that. The only thing ANet has to change is the placement of Blade Training and Duelists Discipline back to like it is right now.

To be honest, I’m slightly fed up with all those Phantasm- and passive damage modificator complaints lately – no hard feelings. Just have a look how Phantasm builds work now and how they will work in the future. There’s barely any change, just no buff. I personally appretiate ANet not buffing Phantasm damage rather than our active damage.

Phantasmal Fury has always been in Dueling traitline and almost every PvE mesmers grab it. I dont get why people just suddenly complain about its placement now. Has anyone been complaining about it for, you know, the last two years since launch?

Because in HoT, if you choose a line, you need to go all the way in. They changed lots of traits around too, so why not Phantasmal Fury ?

I’m alright with Phantasmal Fury being there, even if I complained. Just wish it was somewhere else.

Your counter point is fair and has logic in it, this is what I expect from people.
But from my point of view, now that we have to go all the way in when spec into a line, the real problem is that there are few to none gm traits dedicated to phantasm builds.

One could argue Illusionary Inspiration is a phantasm trait, but usually boons will get shared to your team, not your phantasms unless you solo or in a less than 5 group. Likewise, Harmonious Mantras could be used to boost phant dmg but not everyone of us like to run a full mantra build and I respect that too.

So suddenly u have these amazing phant traits at adept and master tiers but its not enough to justify going all the way to gm traits where u have to settle with traits that you know you wont be able to squeeze all the benefits out of them.

But still it remains to be seen the direction the devs are going forward.

I know it has always been in the Dueling trait line, however, I’m wondering why it’s still there in the planned changes. If Dueling is about critical hits with weapons and not about solely affecting phantasms, then it would make better sense to move a trait that only affects phantasms and synergizes with phantasm traits elsewhere.

Also, how is my asking about its placement in the planned changes considering whining and complaining?

I was also thinking about this placement of this phantasmal fury, but from different perspective. Since it synthesizes so well with iduelist (proc bleeding and confusions on crits), it’s better to place either phantasm fury or duelist trait go somewhere so that you could have both of these traits. It looks like these two traits will be in adept tiers, and you can only choose one.

It synergizes fantastically with Sharpened Images, so I don’t really see a problem personally.

Phantasms are weapon skills, after all (well, most of them anyway, and the two that aren’t don’t do much damage). So critting with weapons and critting with phantasms aren’t exactly completely separate things.
