Confusion Build - Sticking with it?
I will keep it there and test it once the patch releases, however i dont feel it will be as viable in WvW as Spvp still due to there being many more numbers which in turn bring much more condtion removal and faster fights so lower damage will hurt confusion a lot here.
It will still do a good job of tagging for badges so ill keep running it for that as i need em for siege but i plan to be switching to a new spec. still holding hope for confusion but it doesn’t look likley with tests i have done with my guild in Spvp even in 8v8 it is incedibly easy to deal with, upcale that to 50+ people with condition removal and its bonned
Same here. I’m going to test it out after the patch but I’ll probably switch to a different build. Might take a break and play the guardian for a while. I’m not a huge fan of the other classes I’ve leveled so I’m not sure – might see what else is out there.
I was going to try it for wvw because I like legal trolling tactics and I haven’t tried a different build in a really long time. If this change goes through, I might stop playing the game until an expansion comes. I’m not going to leave a disgruntled thread or anything of the like. I’ll just silently close the game and give my ps3 and wii some love. I was already getting frustrated with the constant, heavy-handed nerfs, buffs that were more like fixing quality of life issues and how absolutely confounded I am about skill tooltips being left incorrect for so long.
I still have a pinch of hope left. I still like this game more than any other mmo out there but these “balances” have pushed me to the edge of my breaking point. Maybe they’ll swap the vulnerability from Winds of Chaos with poison. Maybe they’ll reduce the cooldown of portal in pve. Maybe they’ll stop adding cool weapon skins that you can only get from ridiculously low rng odds. Maybe they’ll make support builds more worthwhile. Maybe they’ll actually do something that will discourage zerging instead of encouraging it.
I’ll wait until the 30th, vehemently holding on to my hope.
I refuse to change because of how much I love playing with Staff and Deceptive Evasion, so yes.
Will it be harder to do things, absolutely? Will it be impossible? No.
My current hope is that one of the bugs they fix in traits for the next patch is Illusionary Elasticity not working with illusions. This would make me incredibly happy, as well as being a bone thrown to iMage, which will really, really need the help after this patch.
I run a glamour build but luckily, I havent focused on actual condition based gear. So its easy to respecc. I’m already doing poor damage with confusion, but everything adds up when engaging groups making a 50% nerf hit it pretty hard. Might as well go phantasms with greatsword instead, it has its perks too.
It just won’t be worth it any more. Confusion is a great form of crowd control because it forces the players to back off and revaluate. At 50% dam reduction they’ll just play through the dam. Spamming attacks as usual. Also, the amount of survivability / precision you give up for glam confusion builds is so massive, that with no real return it won’t make sense.
I’ll be sticking with my glam/confusion build. It’s been my preferred play style since launch, and I don’t intend to run at the first sign of trouble!
It really sucks that confusion damage is being halved, but the rest of the fun and useful WvW stuff is still there. I’ll still be able to tear off boons from enemies and conditions off of allies, all the while blinding and confusing any enemy in the target area. I’ll still be able to toss out a bubble to throw back projectiles at enemies, and once again blind and confuse them. Still got nice reflective wall. Will the confusions hurt less? Sure, but the utility is still there and honestly as long as the reflects/confusions hurt enough to net me some loot bags I don’t plan on jumping ship!
I’ve been playing SPVP since I heard about the nerf. I still have good success. I’m sticking with my condition build on my PVP/WVW mesmer. Is there anyone else who plans on sticking to their condition build?
PVP confusion is NOT going to be touched… Just wvw… And in PvP I run a scepter torch Blind=confusioin build and it has worked amazingly well.

he’s saying even with the reduced confusion damage in spvp, he’s still having success there. thus he predicts he will continue to have success with a confusion build in wvw.
and to all the people crying doomsday about the confusion nerf, confusion by design was never meant to be a hard cc, it’s meant to be a soft cc like retaliation. however in wvw, you can spec the damage and duration so high that it’s effectively a 10second daze.
of course confusion was intended to be. why else put it on f2 shatter?
As the only (that I know) glam focused guild in the game, we will be experimenting with the changes to see if we can still make effective use of confusion, stay tuned for Pyro’s and my next podcast as I am sure it will include us talking about all the changes, and what we feel can be done about them.
ill put my confusion gear next to my greatsword in the garbage.
I’ve been playing confusion (not glam) since I first saw Flimp’s build months ago, but I’ve already changed my build in anticipation of the nerf to get more used to it. Even as confusion stands now quality players cleanse it pretty well. Unless we get that new condition the necros are anticipating or there are significant trait line changes I really cannot see me sticking with a condition build in ANY type of weakened state.

oooh i forgot about the new condition…wow maybe we get a new one that will go hand in hand with confusion…..:-) that’d be cool! well, we will see.

Keeping the confusion glamour build. It will still be effective.
We have very limited options to help out with zerg busting. Not sure a power build can quite cut it. We’re not going to be wiping out dumb kitten who don’t notice confusion any longer, but we can at least … I don’t know, blind them?
Answer: No, I’ll be playing my Ele when I’m with zergs now.

It’s the counterpart to interrupts in GW1, except you have a choice if you want to be interrupted or take the damage. And they could just have reduced base duration for confusion applied by glamour fields from 5s to 3s, then it would have been ~7s with +duration. They also could have changed confusing enchantments because that’s the only op glamour trait. Simply reducing the damage by 50% without any accompanying changes like removing the duration cap and changing base durations is just crude and lazy.

That’s the saddest part about this update. Even with the smarter players long gone from the kittenty updates that Anet has been doing, the metagame was definitely going towards a point where confusion was become less effective with more people gaining combat experience to deal with confusion. It is a FACT that there are less idiots dying from confusion now than a month ago, even less from 2 months ago, etc etc. This is only the most natural course of development of a stabilizing playerbase that becomes the core players of the game. And out of nowhere Anet decides to put on ezmode, where a lot of other things also got the nerf bat besides confusion.

Aye the biggest things that needed fixing in WvW and sPvP were stealth spiking and stealth rezzing (includeds most form elixer s etc)
There seems to be some more than what SoTG had mentioned, so I’m waiting out until patch. I have recently been focusing more on power-based builds, but I still kept my condition-based gears.
I am also curious about this new condition that is introducing. I hope it’s not just only for necros. There seems to be possible trait moving/changing as well as skill function changes (at least, that’s what I’m getting the impression of from the video).
I’m just glad I went full power and crit damage on my ascended gear. With that being said, I wish they could at least announce big class changes prior to releasing new gear, or at least allow you to exchange gear for a price of a couple gold. Most of the current ascended gear takes time to get (laurels, for example, can only be acquired at a fixed rate of one per daily and then of course the monthly). Isn’t it a bit unfair to players who invested the time and effort to run a specific build to be unexpectedly nerfed? Sure, you can get exotic gear and be slightly less effective. But most players are going to want to run their favorite build to the fullest potential. When it takes a month to get a single trinket via laurels, builds could become obsolete within the same time frame it takes to get them.

To some one like me who refuses to do fractals (I find them boring and repetitive) this is a large issue. If they added them in as WvW badge rewards I would be much happier (or stopped doing massive sudden nerfs or put in an exchange system).

agreed. I just finished up getting my ascended items for my WvW glamour build. Ouch. It’s frustrating to the point that I’m tempted to just shelve the character and move on.
If they’re going to do these sudden, brutal nerfs they should let us trade in our ascended items or something.
I might try a few duels and see if it’s viable anymore or not. Btw, do realise that confusion build being able to compete in spvp does not mean that it can compete in WvW. This is because all other builds retain their WvW strength.

If what was written in the summary (I didn’t watch the video myself) is true, then they are probably going to add an unique condition to the Necromancer’s Death Shroud at some point in the future. It’s gonna be their fifth DS-skill. Clearly, other classes (including Mesmers) won’t have any access to this condition. At least that’s how it looks like. I actually like that; it might make DS more useful for condition Necromancers. I just hope that they give Mesmers something good in exchange for that (imo unnecessary) nerf to confusion-damage… be it a shorter cooldown on our confusion-applying skills, increasing the duration of our confusion or improving our ability to stack other damaging conditions.
im about sick of the nerfs to the confusion builds tbh…it was a great burst style build to bring down the health but its way too easy to counter as it is…ill probably be respecing entirely with this if it goes through

why would the GS be garbage?

I’ve ran a lot of builds for periods of time. I actually switched to full Rampagers 2 weeks ago because I had grown bored with Carrion gear. As of a couple days ago I switched to full Zerkers with some ascended knights.
In all reality Zerker gear is much more deadly than cond gear. I will miss the fun I had with confusion but the truth is last night I dueled several 2 man thief teams and blew them up in seconds.
(Note to thieves. If you’re friend is in the downed state do not try to rez them while I am standing near you in full zerker shatter spec.)
The skill cap imo is much higher to run a shatter spec with zerker because you loose a ton of tankiness but I had already practiced quite a lot and I am now having quite a bit of fun 2 shotting 80% of the wvw player base.
I have 2 sets of rampagers, 1 sets of carrion and 1 set of Rabid so hopefully confusion get’s brought back up by 20% some day. I really do think a 30% nerf would have been the sweet spot.
ill put my confusion gear next to my greatsword in the garbage.

ill be so kittening kitten if they dont fix izerker in the patch.
