Anet calculates mesmer DPS based on how much 3 phantasmal wardens can do, which is dumb because almost no body keeps that many up at a time since enemies die fast, etc. Lowering the DPS on warden and increasing DPS on things like GS 1 or GS2 would actually make mesmer’s sustain better in WvW and PvE
Make phantasmal berserker/warden lower damage?
I’d rather they increase the time between all phantasm autoattacks then.
The only time you get 3 phantasms up consistently is if it’s a boss , a boss that doesn’t AoE your phantasms, or a gate in WvW that isn’t being defended. Plus you can’t pop any skill that makes clones.

While I wouldn’t put it past anet to do something so bizarre (seriously, more often than not my target just moves away from the warden), it still seems a little off even for them to just pick one of the less-used phantasms as a gauge.

Warden is the highest DPS phantasm. I know for a fact they use phantasms to guage DPS. I just put two and two together. Point is, phantasms are unreliable and we would be better off with higher hitting AAs

You live in the wrong century. If you don’t have 3 phants up in the current pve against a boss, idk WHAT you did wrong. They got 90% damage reduction from aoe since HoT.

Warden the highest dps phantasm? Pardon me? Lemme help you out a bit here:
If you are zerk/assa, the dps ranking is like this:
1. iWarlock with 6+ conditions
2. iSwordsman
3. iBerserker with 4 hits (big target / wall)
4. iDuellist
5. iWarlock with 0 conditions
6. iBerserker with 3 hits
and then, finally
7. iWarden
iWarden is only good for reflecting or cleaving 3 targets, but for cleave, even iDisenchanter may outdamage him due its wide aoe and fast AS.

Warden may have the highest skill damage, but not the highest DPS

2. I’ve never seen any mesmer DPS calculation ever on any forum not rely on phantasms. i’ve been hearing people cry about Anet relying on this mechanic since 2013. No, I don’t know Karl personally. It’s known even among amateurs that spatial surge and blurred frenzy are DPS killers and that phantasms are a mesmer’s best way to deal damage to stationary targets. Also, if Phantasmal Warlock was the best DPS choice, why would S/F be meta? The reflects from warden also contribute to its DPS value.

Also details aside, none of this takes away from the value of my original post. Fine, Warden doesn’t have the highest DPS. Still, damage should be mitigated from phantasms back to weapon skills, and that wells should have recharge and cast time reduced instead of alacrity being messed with.
If you’re asking for conservative balance ideas, why not start with something they just did for thief sword being done for mesmer sword: Increasing the autoattack speed by reducing aftercasts (without asking for self nerfs elsewhere).
Mesmer sword rides at 0.9-1.0 mult/sec depending on boons or no boons. Why not reduce the aftercasts without increasing the damage coefficients. That’s 2 birds with 1 stone in the form of an increase in sustained mesmer DPS and more boon removal. This is from a PvP perspective.
If they got the sword auto chain down to 1.85 seconds the chain would ride at 1.2-1.35 mult/sec and would be something like a 33% increase to (potential) boon removal.
I’ll just go back to lurking now.

It would definitively increase mesmer sustained dps + bonus boon removal. Since you pointed that they could also increase sword dmg coeficient from 0.66 to 0.8 (like thief)
it would help without threatening anything since mesmer lacks dmg moddifiers on their traits anyways..
But lets be serious… Straight buffs to mesmers? Wont happen. Mesmers just have pity buffs on useless stuff when something else and important is nerfed. For that kind of buff to happen we would mostlikely lose all the quickness for example.
Thats the way its done for mesmer.

Ignoring our specific balance right now, am I the only one who feels that if anything, TTK is too short in PvP? I want fights to be slower. :s
