Similarly curious what people think is the ideal mix of Power, Precision and Critical Damage for maximum overall damage.

I don’t fully understand how to proper use this table.

If your have 50% and 50 critical damage, you do 15% more damage than if you have 0% and 0. And then you play with the two values. And that is for a certain amount of power. Am I right?

Hence is not enough to have this table if you have to play with power, chance and crit damage.

So my question is, here http://gw2buildcraft.com/calculator/ where you have “effective power”, is that the number that I have to take in account for maximizing my damage?

Hope I made myself clear with my clumsy English.

No man 0 and 0 you do 100 damage ADN if you have 50% chance and 50% crit you do 150 damage. 150 damage is 50% more than 100 damage
Btw remember the min crit chance is 4%

OK, let’s says 10 attacks (not taking in account the min 4% thanks for the data).
50% without criting= 5×100=500
50% criting for 50%=5×150=750

That’s 1250 Vs 1000, that’s an 25% increase. Or I don’t understand the table (that claims a 15%) or it is not how are you saying.

That’s the formula that I’m interested in:
Effective Power = Power × [(1 – Critical Chance) + (Critical Chance × Critical Multiplier))] × Damage Multiplier

So, just comparing effectives power is the way to go?

theres a base 50% crit damage, so 50% crit damage stat means you’ll be doing double damage on crits.

so it should read:

50% without criting= 5×100=500
50% criting for 100%=5×200=1000

which is a 50% increase, which is what the table shows for 50% chance and 50% damage.

and by extension, if you have 50% chance and 50% damage, then you gain more total damage by adding 5% crit damage than 5% chance, 1.55 vs 1.525

The problem here is your maths in 10 attacks is 1500 va 1000 so 50% more
Remember base is 150% so 50% crítica means 100 × 2

Yes. Just use the table and compare effective power numbers. That number should be average DIRECT damage formula stripped off from variables you can’t change (target armor, weapon damage, skill modifiers). Aka the formula that was linked somewhere here.

The maxima obviously lies in full berserker, but you can use it to think about how to properly mix defence, like PVT versus Knight. Things get more complex with conditions. You can think about the relative gains and losses, “gained 6% more damage and 4% defence with using valkyrie+pvt mix instead of knight because i have 100% fury” FICTIONAL EXAMPLE.

Remember to add buffs like might and fury if you have em! Makes big difference in the balance.

@Andres: I put time on this. Yeah, I was misreading the table. Thanks.

@ Sabull: Much appreciated. As I run a power build it’s going to be a very useful tool.
Lot of theorycraft to do ^^

The other subtle point to remember is that if you are concerned with PvP or WvW, there is extra value in having bursty damage. This is because, unlike mobs, players will react when their health gets low: they will dodge/block/disrupt/heal/break line of sight/run away/whatever, which means there is tactical value in having a huge crit that downs an enemy outright and makes them unable to defend. So for PvP, a very high crit damage may not give the highest overall dps but may give better results.
