Deceptive Evasion trait bugged
not a bug, working as intended.
you also dont have to have a target, as long as you’re in combat, you’ll create a clone if theres something nearby
It’s particularly annoying when fighting other Mesmers as a Shatter or condition Mesmer. Phantasm Mesmers unfortunately don’t suffer in this regard.
It isn’t fine that clones aggro npcs yet ranger/necro pets don’t!
It should get fixed/changed!
Not a bug, its anets amazing next generation AI.
This bug is horrible, whenever I play condition mesmer I cant keep clones on a single target because of this. It must also be a pain for shatter mesmers as well since they cant even mind wrack their desired target.
I generally have no problem with this. Any time I’m facing more than one opponent, my clones keep the heat off of me while I focus on the target. I’ve done this while soloing the champion effigy that spawns in the event that unlocks the Citadel of Flame and I’m able to hold all the adds on my own too. In fact, my biggest worry is falling off the edge because I can’t get back fast enough to stop the event from failing.
In PvE it’s good because (as a condition Mesmer) it gives you a pseudo-AoE capability, but in PvP you really want your Clones to focus on your target and not on, say, other Clones.

This.
Also imagine a thief who unstealths to hit you while you are DPSing a different target. I dodge roll to create a clone on the thief. I don’t want to dodge roll and put a clone on my target in this example.

I’m having a problem with this because it’s counterintuitive and annoying. Also the patch notes say "summoned creatures" which to me sounds like it includes clones, so I filed a bug. I see absolutely no plausible reason why a clone should attack and aggro a nearby yellow mob, especially when it’s something like those veteran tree things that immobilizes you forever (just forgot their names).

In my opinion, it is more of a pvp trait than pve and therefore working as it should.
For example, if you pop Decoy then dodge roll with or without a target, your clone will aggro the closest enemy which is generally what you want to happen and helps with the illusion of the clone being you.

In many ways correct xavi exept I dont thin the thief realy are fooled that it not is my clone but me who run around chasing a rabbit npc

As a PvE focused player, I strongly disagree. If they split it so it works differently, I don’t care. In PvE, it’s heavily broken. And in WvW it also only makes sense in very few cases. And it’s inconsistent with the rest of the game. Anyway, I also0 wouldn’t even care if it only aggroed hostile (red) enemies. In PvP modes, everything’s red anyway. Aggroing yellow mobs is broken in any possible case though.
By traiting into Deceptive Evasion you are accepting these terms regardless of having read or known about them beforehand.
You are accepting that you will be spawning a Clone that will target the nearest enemy, be it unaggroed or unaggroable.
You are accepting that you will be not able to control the Clones that come out when you roll.
You are accepting that this will hamper your ability to control every aspect of the game in regards to your playstyle.
You are accepting that this is the way it is, and forevermore shall be.

I have never had issues with this, and I have played 2,100+ pvp games on mes. The only time this happens is when I lose a target (it dies or goes invis) which in that case it auto targets and my clone attacks the target that auto target chose.. Maybe it would help if you actually clicked the thing you wanted to attack rather than thinking your clones will read your mind

The reason you haven’t had an issue with this is because we are talking about WvW not spvp.
Go stand in WvW near some yellow or white harmless npc mobs and watch your dodge roll clones attack them instead of the invader you have targeted at ranged distance.

Probably the most ignorant post I’ve ever read on these boards. You may want to try and go out of PvP to the “real world”, either WvW oder PvE.
I don’t have a major problem with this but it is pretty obvious when a clone hits a rabbit, its not the real mesmer would be nice to have it changed so it doesn’t attack ambient animals, however it is very hand in 1vX’s when it attacks any aggro’d mobs and holds them at bay for a bit, not that there tough to kite, mind you.
however i don’t think this is a bug, would just be a Quality of life change as its always worked this way.

The lack of understanding with how Deceptive Evasion works in this post is staggering.
That being said, modifying your playstyle can help. The clones spawned by DE will always attack the closest adversary. Just make sure the one you want to attack is the closest, i.e. run toward then dodge roll back.
I realize this doesn’t solve the problem, but it mitigates it considerably. I’m pretty sure this is “working as intended” and we’re not going to see it change – not that I’m advocating for that at all. Would much rather be able to easily control what my dodge roll clones attack. I just don’t think it’s ever going to change – so we need to adapt to it.

What the post was about Dhampyr is not your nearest target as in enemy that is not the problem, the problem (well inconvenience) is the fact they attack Ambient creatures too, like rabbit, rats, firefly’s etc things which would never normally be in a fight now sometimes a fight passes over these ambient creatures and when it does or when someone blinks / jumps back or forward etc if we dodge roll the clone has a high chance to attack the Ambient creature.
no adapting needs to be done we all all ready know how Deceptive evasion works it has always done this however doesn’t make it any less annoying.
as for attacking the player you want yeh well…position is key and i enjoy that.

Sorry, was responding to the post that I quoted rather than the original topic. Der me. Agree totally that the targeting of ambient creatures is silly and shouldn’t occur.
