Defensive play in sPvP

Regardless, the question is not worth discussion. How rewarding a class is, is completely subjective, not really anything to discuss, more just show and tell. I personally find being useful in any situation, rewarding. No matter the role, as long as I do it well. Some people get hung up on big numbers. It’s pretty sad.
The OP never mentions Mesmer anywhere. Other classes can also play bunker builds based on defense and his point regarding earned Glory is valid, perhaps….
The thing is you’re considering glory into your equation. Obviously a more bunker spec won’t be as successful at wracking up the kills and seeing that a lot of points to be gained is via killing yes you’re going to get less glory.
As far as the more bunkery spec— then what you have to consider is also how much you bring to the table when your teammates do show up— because as a mesmer you can bring a LOT if speced correctly. Unfortunately specing bunker negates a lot of your viability in terms of team fight potential.
Imagine this:
You’re on your point— you see an ele approaching you and he is very heavily invested in DPS. You’re running a bunkery spec and probably using phantasms as damage or attempting some sort of haphazard condi spec which relies on your enemy killing your clones. Either way your dps is at best unreliable.
A thief from your team shows up and bursts the ele (who hasn’t even used mist form because you can’t inflict enough damage). The thief is forced to wait for mist form and hope to be able to burst it down again. During this period what are you doing other than surviving and potentially providing your thief with a bit more survivability?
This vs—- running a spec where if all of your CDs are available you can beat the ele in a 1-1— then the thief comes in and does one burst tips the fight completely in your favor and it’s not even close.
The problem with bunker mesmers is that simply put they cant bunker as well as Guardian— thus if you want a bunker you run a guardian. As such— if you’re running a bunkery spec and you already have a guarding you are essentially a lame duck in terms of what you bring to a team fight.
