Distortion
It was bugged until early this morning, yes. Only gave Evade, not Invulnerability. Should be fixed now.
I read the patch notes and was a little confused. All the descriptions I’ve ever read about distortion (in-game and online) was that it counted as an evasion, not invulnerability. However recently I have noticed that condition damage ignores distortion.
Invulnerability is an effect that prevents the target from taking damage, receiving conditions, or being affected by control effects. It does not prevent damage from existing conditions, fall damage, or environmental traps. The effect is characterized by an “Invulnerable” message whenever a character would take damage from an attack. — wiki
So what’s the definition of evade?
From what I have read evade seems the same as invulnerability, it prevents you being from being hit from an attack.
From the last patch notes:
Distortion:
Fixed a bug that caused this buff to grant evasion instead of invulnerability.
Updated the description of this buff to indicate invulnerability.
I’m presuming there is a difference, maybe evade only prevents some attacks, but invulnerability prevents all?
Either way, as I mentioned above distortion descriptions (for Mesmers) have always mentioned evade, even after this patch, despite it saying in the bug fix that this has changed. Still confused about this.

Evade is dodging.
E.g., In WvW a Guardian puts up a Line of Warding, and you try to dodge (without stability,) over it you will be knocked down and can’t move over the LoW. However, with invulnerability (F4 on the move) you can just walk over it without being knocked over. Same with Static Fields from Elementalists.
So if our F4 distortion would have stayed ’’Evade’’ (fixed, thank you!) we could not walk over the Line of Warding from the Guardian anymore when we use our F4.
Certain skills and effects cannot be evaded, they include:
Skills with area denial purposes: Line of Warding, Ring of Warding, Unsteady Ground, Static Field, Temporal Curtain’s cripple, and many others.
Passive effects that trigger when the enemies are attacked: Retaliation, Auras
Certain environmental traps/events/objects; e.g. Direct Lightning of Skyhammer —wiki
Nazer mentioned it, but pretty much the biggest one we have to deal with in the evade vs invulnerable issue is retaliation. Before the change to evade, you could blurred frenzy to your hearts content and not take a lick of damage from an opponent with retal. Now you can come close to insta-killing yourself if you’re not paying attention.
It’s fixed now.
