I’m running a melee build (dual wield sword) with a scepter+pistol combo (giving me parry in both situations).

I’m not interested in WvW, but I’m heavy interested in dungeons.
I would like to know if having vitality/toughness it’s a requirement or should I wear all berserker set (and trinkets). I really do not know, because at the moment even if I have 3 pieces with power + vitality+ toughness, if there are troubles, I can save myself only through skills, it doesn’t look those stats help me in any way.

I have an amulet with vitality on it, and thats it. I sit around 15.5k health, and have no issues for the most part.

I have a separate set of gear i throw on for DE in dungeons, such as Magg building his bomb and you have to kite 100 mobs around. My other set puts me around 2k toughness, and 2.2k health.

So i guess if you do have some heavy toughness and vitality stuff you can throw on for the occasions it requires, 90% of the time you can run around with pure DPS stats melting face. Thats how i prefer to do it!

Junk enemies vit and toughness matter if you aren’t dodging at the right time. Most bosses I find the stats not very useful because normally they can take you down with whatever their “special attack” is regardless of what you have on. Dodging is the only way to not get insta-downed against some bosses.

I’d just say it depends on what dungeon you are running but in general dodging will save you many more times then having soldier gear (power, toughness, vitality) will. Especially against bosses.

Personally, my mesmer has a TON of Toughness, but not much Vitality. Traded off my crit damage. I’ll readily admit my build is a little weid, but I can easily make enemies focus on me, and via dodging and lifesteal, I can easily stay on top of enemies and outlast them, even bosses.

I lack the crit damage of glassy builds, but I’m pretty much indestructable except to insant kill attacks. And Omnom pies act as a great damage ramp when you are at 70% crit chance.

Nothing in terms of “survivability gear” is necessary for any of the dungeons, especially as a Mesmer. The amount of invulns, reflects, and stun breaks we have access to are more than enough to survive on with smart dodging.

Stace (Lv 80 human quickness portal bot) | Sarcasmic (Lv 80 elixir-drunk norn pyro)
Saladtha (Lv 80 salad sidekick to bears) | Dunelle (Lv 80 eviscerating muppet)
Karmell (Lv 80 human might dispenser) | Vast says hi~.

personally think tough and Vit are required in dungeon, epecially when you need some Vit so that u do not die too fast with conditions on you. If you have a steady team member doing dungeon(known each other stats and play style), you can replace some tough and VIt with other DPS stats. But if you just do pick random group and do random dungeon, I prefer tough and Vit more, because you never know what group you will get and sometime you can see your teammates just down and down during boss fight, lol.
